Original/Classic -- it's a toss-up tbh. Thing is, he's a celebrated
chef and you're a poster to usenet. Not sure who to believe.

Well just because he's a Celebrity Chef doesn't mean he can't take the
piss out those "ignorant british".

"Steak Maman Blanc with sauted potatoes"? If you think that's
"Haute-Cuisine" I might only be a usenet poster but your just an idiot.

Maybe he's cooking it correctly ala Mrs Beeton not post-1940s 'cook the

He's French. He wouldn't know how to cook. Warm up slightly maybe, but
cooking will forever be a mystery to the cheese eating surender

As with all things new he probably read a book on how to do it - which
probably meant that he added herbs and/or spices, something mostly lost
to this and the previous English generations who regard the spice rack
as something for showing off to the neighbours but to be left alone!

Okay, we've picked up the 'slurry in a can' method from the States but
that's as far as it goes.

:-)

Now THAT'S sarcasm!

I particularly liked the way you omitted the qualifier in front of the
word 'quality' as advertisers do, thereby leading the reader's mind into
supposing something of greatness.

Despite protestations to the contrary the French know nothing about
wine but sadly neither do the Brits.

I once witnessed a vet being served steak in a restaurant in Paris, it
seemed rather underdone and he opened his briefcase and took out a few
surgical instruments. Meanwhile we left in disgust at the quality of
the meal. Next morning a cow was seen strolling down the
Champs-Elysees disrupting the traffic. I think the vet may have been
particularly well skilled but as sure as hell the chef wasn't.

French women would be fine if they learnt to wash and shave their
armpits, didn't stink of garlic, didn't smoke and spoke English. The
pert jiggly tits and penchant for them not wearing bras I can cope
with :)

*Learn* to shave their armpits? I know it's fairly ubiquitous these
days for women to shave under their arms, but I wonder if you are
offended by the form of a natural woman? It has been fashionable to do
this for three to four decades. Shaving the nether regions has been
fashionable for about a decade. What's next? Completely bald women?

So did you use freshly ground black pepper and half a banana
shallot, like Raymond told you to ?

No of course you didn't. Cos they don't stock those in Iceland
do they, eh ?

And you don't know any different.

Peasant.

:) Very true
He also suggests "2 x 225g/8oz sirloin steaks (preferably organic)".
Meaning the large lump of meat that he used cost about £10, rather than
a tasteless twitching bleeding object from a supermarket, sealed in a
plastic box and surrounded with nitrogen.

In the run up to Christmas the helpful chefs can be heard saying "my
turkey is never dry, it's all because I spray it with atomised butter
from two feet away...". The truth is they buy the most expensive free
range organic bird they can find, rather than a 10 month old deep frozen
mutant from Asda.

It's the little details and taking that bit more trouble that
make all the difference. Not what you call the dish.

It's even possible to make gourmet mashed spuds.

Which is why I can't quite see why Ramsay slagged off Vic
Reeves for asking for fried eggs, that time. It was
up to Ramsay to make the fried eggs interesting IMO.

It's not the same thing as Rigsby asking for the
Daddy's Sauce.

Now_that_would have been funny.

Probably less than that, but it's been a while since I last went there. It's
