Hi, dear all,
I've got the GS Version 2.2

i have got not the same problem: but it is:

I have a problem for publishing map in the section of the
tutorial:"GeoServer 2.2.x User Manual » Getting Started » Publishing a
Shapefile"
http://docs.geoserver.org/stable/en/user/gettingstarted/shapefile-quickstart/index.html

with the weblink "openlayers" and the example nyc-roads there is
no map inside the openlayers environment.

And it is the same result for all example inside this tutorial.

however, I can display all map via wms or wfs services in all formats
jpeg, png etc.
Does anyone can help me about this problem of displaying map with this
openlayers links!
Thank you
Anne Q
Hello all,
I tried the new version of GS 2.2.2, but I have major problems with
- i made a copy of my data_dir (working well with GS 2.2.0)
- i installed GS 2.2.2
- i put the new data_dir directory, next to the default data directory
As long as I work with the default data, with default GEOSERVER_DATA_DIR
path in the WEB-INF/web.xml (I'm using Tomcat 7), there is no problem.
If I change the GEOSERVER_DATA_DIR to my own data_dir, the web interface
- WMS queries send 404 error with all layer previews
/*HTTP Status 404 -*
type Status report
message
description The requested resource () is not available./
- even if I add a new resources, the new layers still has the sam error

Hi Stefano,
here there is an extrait of the log file of this morning in attached file.
I ve just got Firebug today, so i prefer read on log file the resume at
the moment.
Looking at the log file I can't see any error.
All the requests contained was from the OpenLayers preview App?
If you open the Firebug console you can look at the request performed
by the client and the Server response, you can also copy the request
and perform it with an other client, e.g. curl or the browser itself
in another tab, to see what happens.
Alternatively you may want to raise the log detail,
http://docs.geoserver.org/stable/en/user/webadmin/server/globalsettings.html,
and monitor it with

tail -f /<path to your log file>

Then when you perform an action on the map should see the log output
in the terminal.

Kind Regards,

Stefano

I' ve got two warning messages on the firebug console

related to the "nyc_roads" openlayers map preview tab on my browser

1 -moz-border-radius: 1em 0 0 0; style.css (ligne 70, col. 24)

2 filter: alpha(opacity=50); style.css (ligne 232, col. 18)

3 and I've got one error message:

The character encoding of the HTML document was not declared. The document
will render with garbled text in some browser configurations if the
document contains characters from outside the US-ASCII range. The
character encoding of the page must to be declared in the document or in
the transfer protocol.

thank you for this interesting command line.
tail -f /<path to your log file>

I am still learning on firebug...
Thank for your help

Hi Anne,

I got the same error about HTML character encoding, but I can see the map.
On the Firebug console if you switch to the net panel you should see
at least two requests, the one with the request=GetMap key-value pair
is about the map.
Can you find it there?
And if yes can you try to execute as a stand alone request to see if
GeoServer return you the map?

Kind Regards,

Stefano

Ok,
from one example tiger-ny
I see only your first request comparing to your picture console
1)Get wms?service GetMap

2) get wms?LAYERS ==>there is nothing
and others you can see on attached picture
ok, your Browser seems stop working after the two css errors.
Sorry for missing this point before :-(

The two lines indicated are exactly equal in the style.css on my
default 2.2 GeoServer installation.

Could you try using the preview app from an other workstation/browser?

Kind Regards,

Stefano

Hi Anne,

It does not seem really a Firefox issue. I used it on Windows 7 and
Linux Mint with the OpenLayers layer's preview. On both I am using
Firefox 17.0.1 release.
I don't remember of this issue with older Firefox version, but
honestly I can't say I did test layer's preview against all Firefox
release.

The graphical interface appears different and better (chromium) if you
compare it with firefox .
The firefox version I used was 15.0.1 and I updated the firefox browser
into 17.0.1 but the
symbology type is always missing on the left of the mapping preview window

I tried the new version of GS 2.2.2, but I have major problems with
