Music Man actor, Timmy Everett

I have thought about Timmy Everrett throughout my life and I am not young. I had the honor of studying dance with him so many years ago. I was there the day that he did not show up to Tap class, because he had passed away. I was in the dance studio the day we got the news. He has still influenced me my entire life. I still teach double toe stands the way he taught me. When I finally got the chance to choreograph The Music Man, people said it was inspired. Can't imagine why? Thank you Timmy. Most people don't know what an incredible teacher he was. He was also very kind and patient in the classroom. I still miss him.

Timmy Everett played Tommy Djilis in the movie. I thought he was handsome and
a great dancer, not to mention that he had a great body. A search shows that
"The Music Man" was the only movie he appeared and that his only other filmed
credit was an episode of "The Naked CIty." I've also discovered that he died
in the early 70's but there's not much info in the obit I found.
Does anyone know of this actor besides me? And does anyone know anymore about
him? The short documentay that precedes the anniversary video edition of "The
Music Man" doesn't even mention him, even though Susan Luckey (Zanita Shinn) is
one of the narrators.

I studied, and worked with Timmy Everett in the early 1970's is was great. Tanya, his sister, Evite and I put together a workout and it was recorded. Timmy, Tanya and I performed and dance for Dance Masters of America in the 70's. Timmy heart gave out at the age of 37.

Just watched the Music Man too! I loved him. I loved them all. My parents, aunts and uncles introduced my family to this movie in the 60s. My parents and most of my uncles are gone now. Will always be a tradition for my family.

Timmy was my acting teacher in LA in 1976/77. We became friends and ended up living together in a fleabag hotel when I had no place to live. He was in very bad shape, smoking all day and night. He invited me to come to NY to live with him and study acting.The night before
I left his roommate called me to say he died from combo of meds and alcohol. I went anyway and lived in his room. Very creepy. His mattress had cigarette burns all
over from his addiction. Very sad how his life ended.

I was in NYC the day he passed.I believe he had an amphetamine addiction.To anybody under 60 today, amphetamines in the 1930's to the 70's was the oxycotin of its day. NYC Doc's would write like Army Majors for speed and Percodan 122(loaded with caffeine/phenactin till 1980). Show biz and Jews love their pills.Sadly,Tim was partially paid in drugs and suffered the consequences

I knew Timmy and took his class in the mid 1970s...he was a sublime dancer and teacher- usually with a cigarette nearby- and he was also a tormented soul with several addictions going on.
I recall hearing the day he died. We were all devastated but not entirely surprised...and horribly saddened.
His sister Tanya was also special and a great dancer.

Well - Timmy Everett just lights up and energizes the screen in all his scenes in The Music Man - as does Pert Kelton (Gleason's original Alice Kramden) - but, re: Timmy - he's just about the best thing in the movie (Ronnie Howard is cute but can't sing - Buddy Hackett??? What were they thinking???) - Preston, great as he was , seems held back/ sedate - I could be wrong - kind of like Stan Holloway in the film My....Lady - there's more energy on their BWay album performances.
However, the crux, one time when I was watching Music Man , and I said "who is this great handsome dancer/performer, and what else had he done?"
So I researched-
Sadly, not much else - and that's really too bad.
There are some photos and critiques of Timmy in his 2 Theater World Award winning roles in The Cold Wind and the Warm , and The Dark at the Top of the Stairs, in the book On Broadway by Stott - performance photos by Fred Fehl - a wonderful book of great pix and BWay insight.
Thankfully , Timmy , like James Dean and Sal Mineo , to name 2 other great actors, in Rebel....Cause, Tim was captured at his peak in the Music Man doing what he did best, albeit , sadly, in only 1 film role - where he will renain forever young and dancing and handsome and just fantastic.

Ron Howard sang just the one song. He's not there to sing but to act. He
provides the comic stutter. Robert Preston always said he was there to
observe the behind-the-camera production and teach himself how to
direct. The kid always knew what he wanted to do. Good thing too, as
one's time as an adorable little boy is extremely limited and extreme
baldness was just around the corner.

Buddy Hackett was also a recurring performer on Gleason's and other
variety shows on tv. Yeah, he was known as a loudmouth off color comic,
but I assume producers just wanted someone bankable. Hackett always said
the role was a gift.

Uh, ok. They rehearsed the movie for over a year, so I assume that's the
performance they wanted from him. I always enjoyed it.

You're not going to mention Shirley Jones, Paul Ford, or Hermione
Gingold? Susan Luckey was quite a professional seasoned performer by the
time the movie was in production despite being in her early 20s.

Tragically, Timmy Everett passed away as a result of a myocardial infarction from amphetamine addition. He was a wonderful man and an outstanding performer.

I took dance lessons from Timmy Everett at Farnsworth & Hower Dance Studios in 1975 & 1976 above the Ed Sullivan Theater in NYC. Timmy was a magnificent teacher. He taught us a combination of jazz, tap & ballet. WOW! Incredible! I was only 18 at the time and Timmy collapsed in class one Saturday late morning. It appeared he had a major drug problem. This was a tragedy, indeed. It was sad to learn that he died about 1 year later. He was a truly tremendous talent and I feel honored to have danced in one of his great classes. I took was struck by Timmy in "The Music Man" and looked him up, thanks for starting this thread. I just beefed up his Wikipedia page a bit with details from his NYT obituary, which gives his cause of death as "apparent heart attack" while at the home of a friend. I had similarly looked up the young dancer Danny Lockin from the movie "Hello Dolly." He also died young, of a horrible hate crime (he was gay, and also a substance abuser). Sad in both cases to see such talent gone too soon.
