I don't remember hearing of a frog extinction event ?
There have been several times when amphibian numbers were sharply
reduced: when the dinosaurs pushed them out of many of their
niches, when the end-Permian times, with much of the interior of
Pangaea turned into desert with no water for them to reproduce
in, and of course the present day.

You are kidding, right ? I see at least a dozen frogs every night when
I go walk a mile. Lily the five month old puppy wants to play with

There were quite a few news stories a few years ago about how frogs were dying
off because of a mysterious cause; one suspected culprit was the ozone layer.
However, just recently I had seen a news item about how things were narrowed
down, and for the most part, the issues had been dealt with, and frog
populations are now mostly stable.

German '60s SF TV series, "Raumpatrouille". Available on youtube with
English subtitles.

McClane made Kirk look downright professional, but his chain of
command keeps him on a shorter leash.

Uneven, but a good effort. IMO it's worth a watch if you like TV SF
of that era.

To my surprise rewatching I'm picking up a little of the dialogue.

Well, drop the other shoe! Who's Commander McLane?
He's a main character from "Raumpatrouille", a German TV series
from 1966. He is known for being extremely capable, for saving
the Earth on several occasions (often losing his ship "Orion" in
the process, he's up to number 7 by the time the series starts)
and for his insubordination.

At the beginning of the series, he is re-assigned from the fast
battle groups to the space patrol for disciplinary reasons,
ending up with all sorts of unglorous jobs. Also, to control his
insubordination tendencies, a secret serivce agent is put on bord
of his ship. How that works out is a major story arc of the series.

"Raumpatrouille" has developed a quite a cult following in Germany.

One reason for that are the special effects. These were quite
expensive for the time, but, looking back, quite comical.
For exapmle, a clothes iron features prominently in the engine
room controls, and ice cream scoops are also featured prominently
in the spacecraft controls. It is also known for its iconic
"space dance".

It also manages to be both suspenseful and funny (if you like
military-style humor, that is).

Also interesting is the treatment of women in the series, for 1966.
Two of seven crew members of the Orion are women, as is McLane's
former commanding officer, and admiral in charge of the fast battle
groups. I think it took Star Trek until the 1980s to have a female
admiral, On the other hand, one of the seven episodes deals with
a planet where women rule and men are relegated to inferior roles
such as that of scientist, which the hero quite fails to understand.

Definitely worth watching.

"dealt with"? Not quite, I don't think. Last March:
<https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-47735823>
blames habitat loss (us), climate change (us), and
predation from invasive species (with help from us),
and chytridiomycosis (...Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis?)

"effectively eating them alive" - it sounds like something
we'd do.

I do, the wife and I are walking for the exercise, Lily is walking to
sniff everything in sight. Lily is a 14 lb cross between a Min-Pin and
Schnauzer. BTW, some frogs are poisonous to dogs. So it is a two way
street.

But, I live in a swamp. It has been prettied up using huge bulldozers,
bayous, and levees but as the end of the day, it is still a swamp. We
parallel the Brazos River for about a mile or so. And the average home
price for our 4,000 homes inside the levee is around $350,000. Maybe
400,000, it is hard to know.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greatwood,_Sugar_Land,_Texas

We have an extensive collection of snakes (coral, king, milk, grass,
copperhead, water, etc, etc, etc). We have a 1,000 acre ranch on one
side with well over 1,000 cattle. We have possums, raccoons, coyotes,
armadillos, etc, etc, etc.

And we have frogs. Billions of them. Mostly plain old frogs but quite
a few tree frogs. And quite a few bullfrogs that are a foot or more
long and well over a pound. Good eating if one is not particular.

There are several known versions of the second and final lines of the
first stanza. Some believe that "she's the 'boes accommodation called
the Wabash Cannonball" was most likely the original final line of the
first stanza, even though it is probably the least popular today. One
common variation calls her a "streamlined combination."

BC's era (whenever it is) has no `boes.
