Duncan Smith on the Today program warned against giving credit to Cummings.

He said that despite his blustery exterior, BJ tends to have clear ideas of where he wants to go and suggested that it was likely BJ who orchestrated the ultimatumn [with my team or out]

Thinking about it this was yesterday evening...so it must have been 'PM program', not Today...

So the question is, "Is Cummings really 'the power behind the throne',
or is he simply Boris's 'enforcer'?"

Or quite simply a faithful and highly skilled assistent; as one would expect in a successful politicians core team.

Was there something I missed or is there some specific reason why we think Cummings is in charge?

The media are telling us that he is. In reality, how would we know one
way or the other? :-)

This is a common problem :D

But usually this can be pinning down to specific issues which we can judge on their merits.

But like I said....I must have missed something with Cummings because I just don't understand where this is coming from.

In fact when trying to search, I find Cummings most controversial act in this government was suggesting that Parliament stayed closed after the summer recess.....and yet according to leaked messages it was BJ who said no...we will open for the first two weeks as usual.....i.e. it appears that BJ is calling the shots on Cummings options.

I get the impression that our establishment think that brexit would not
have happened without Cummings; so presumably they now intend to ruin
his life for that. That's going to be my ongoing assumption whenever a
new Cummings-related story appears. :-)

I'm beinging to get the impression that the emphasis is on discrediting BJ's ability for getting things done.

I find myself in a bit of a crisis here; I don't actually agree with BJ's politics; I believe customs duties can and should be used to control economies (albeit in a regulated manner, not trade wars) wheras BJ is the opposite. I'm also generally more left ring than right. OTOH, I think he is a very competent politician who says where he wants to go and does it. I admire his politicial skill, and I like his personality. In fact DESPITE prefferring other policy, I thing he is by far the best option the UK has :D

So it makes sense that the many political elements in the UK that appear to have no coherent policy are trying to get along by discerditing BJ's capabilities.

As far as Brexit is concerned, Cummings has to share the 'credit' for

And don’t forget a few million voters who, despite the best efforts of

I don't recall Leftists claiming we're living in a dictatorship because the
unelected Alastair Campbell was "calling the shots" with Tony Blair as PM (yes,
people are actually claiming this is the case). Cummings seems to be something
of a lightning rod when it comes to Left Wing vitriol. Many think he was
instrumental in Britain voting to leave the EU and is now putting in place
nefarious reforms designed to give himself ultimate authority.

Meanwhile, the Left, as represented by the metropolitan elite, is still
fighting amongst itself and still doesn't understand why they lost the
referendum and the election. At least they can still agree in which phantasies
they should believe.

The media imply it, so it must be true.

We never knew who it was with May, but she certainly did not behave as
if she was making policy herself, the famous off-off-off-off-off-on
election that she nearly lost being the prime example.

Boris Johnson’s entire career to date? I mean, it’s pretty well-established
that Johnson is lazy, reckless, unfocused, and so on, so it does seem
fairly reasonable to presume that much of the current drive in Number 10 is
coming from a source other than him.

By whom? His detractors certainly, but if I look at any sucessful politician there is no shortage of critique. You are admitting that there must be a brain behind BJ's achievements; why can that not be attributed to BJ himself?

Judging by comments on Guardian articles on FB, many Leftists put forward this
idea. Of course, we are talking about the same people who accused anyone pro

Same here, otherwise I'd have no idea what the story was about. We
first saw them in Italy about five years ago (their kids channels are
much more enjoyable than ours) and it seems that although they are made
in English (I assume in the US), it took a few years for them to appear

bloke trying to do a job.
One of the Brexit films (the one with Benedict Cumberbatch [why not
Comberbach?]) made him out to be rather cerebral. Seems rather
mysterious to me, but I like that. :-)

Watching the media dress it up as "something" makes them look bad, pathetic.
They seems to think people like that sort of thing.
the reptiles are desperate as they see their unaccountable power
slipping away...it tends them to hysteria

most of them are not very bright

And yet they invent ‘bright’ names for their unaccountable power grabbing
covens - such as Integrity Initiative, and Institute For Statecraft.

So the question is, "Is Cummings really 'the power behind the throne',
or is he simply Boris's 'enforcer'?"

Or quite simply a faithful and highly skilled assistent; as one would
expect in a successful politicians core team.
Was there something I missed or is there some specific reason why we
think Cummings is in charge?
Judging by comments on Guardian articles on FB, many Leftists put forward this
idea.  Of course, we are talking about the same people who accused
anyone pro
"Brexit" of being a Russian "bot" so one must take it with a pinch of salt.
I have to say I enjoyed that PJ Masks dialogue.  Cryptic or demented,
who knows?  A perfect response to doorstepping reporters.
I didn't understand a word of it (though I've read the explanation since
then).

I don't think that there was anything that was meant to be understood.
It was like James Joyce was in charge for a few seconds :-)
