Yes, I know you can buy it at the grocery store in a bag. I was at a
friends' house for a while this afternoon and she made it the old
fashioned way.

Something like this:

6 tablespoons butter
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
1-1/2 teaspoons seasoned salt
3/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
3 cups Corn Chex cereal
3 cups Rice Chex cereal
3 cups Wheat Chex cereal
1 cup mixed nuts
1 cup mini pretzels

Heat the oven to 250F.

Melt butter in large roasting pan in oven. Stir in seasonings. Gradually
stir in all remaining ingredients until evenly coated. Bake 1 hour,
stirring every 15 minutes. Spread onto paper towels to cool. Store in
container with tight-fitting lid. I would have added a bit more
Worcestershire sauce but that's just me. ;)

Very nice! I agree on the Worcestershire (I'm so glad you spelled that
for me) sauce; I like the check mix bagged store variety that is labeled
as such. Just don't ask me to pronounce the W-word... Lol

Ignore the spelling and say "wooster-sure" (where "sure" is pronounced
like the common English word). And the double-o is short, as in "good".

If I ever visit Worcestershire, I shall be shear to pronounce it that way.

I used the standard U.S. schwa substitution, which works for nearly
any vowel.

Be thankful I didn't pronounce it like the place where hobbits live.

I live and worked 30 miles south or Worcester MA, the second largest
city in the state. Of course, regionally it was never a problem but it
was funny when those passing through would ask for directions to
Werkester or wookester or were-chester

Homemade is so much better than store-bought. All one needs is the three
boxes of Chex. I think their recipe is on at least one. I've made it
several times in my life with Worcestershire and butter.
That might be just the ticket for this Christmas. It ain't hard to do.
It just takes three different boxes of Chex with plenty left over :)

Store bought has a cheese flavored version that I like. I buy it when
it is BOGO. Could probably cheese up the home made too but sometimes
I'm lazy.

I'm not going out on the Net to learn to pronounce a word that I've
pronounced for seventy years. What would be the point? Why would I
believe some chump's pronunciation over mine? Is the chump from
Worcestershire, or is he/she parroting what they heard from a professor
who didn't know either?
Pronunciation is a fragile thing. None of us pronounce everything like
they did in 1900. Wusta-shur does it for me.

I'm not going out on the Net to learn to pronounce a word that I've
pronounced for seventy years. What would be the point? Why would I
believe some chump's pronunciation over mine? Is the chump from

I replied to Michael who said:
"I've read through everyone's help here, and I'm back on square
one..."

"Wusta-shur" seems ok to me, but I'm not English.

She went in good depth on southern accents, but she kind of slacked on
the north. Pittsburgh has a very specific dialect, and I'm disappointed
that she missed that whole region. Philly varies a fair bit from
Jersey/NY that she started with, but that area wasn't touched either.

I have a friend in southern Virginia, and at 1:24, that was her; hit the
nail on the head! I had to hop on facebook and forward the video to her.

What part of Philly? Although there is commonalty I could some parts of
the city from others, especially South Philly. Where you vacationed at

Interesting. When I think of a Philly accent, I think of "wooter/wuter"
for "water".

Yes, I know you can buy it at the grocery store in a bag. I was at a
friends' house for a while this afternoon and she made it the old
fashioned way.
6 tablespoons butter
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
1-1/2 teaspoons seasoned salt
3/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
3 cups Corn Chex cereal
3 cups Rice Chex cereal
3 cups Wheat Chex cereal
1 cup mixed nuts
1 cup mini pretzels
Heat the oven to 250F.
Common variation around here -
a dash of Wright's Liquid Smoke
a cup of Cheese Nips
a cup of cheerios
substitute cashews for mixed nuts
omit any extra salt

Have gotten store bought the last couple of years and it's a poor
substitute for home made. Thanks for the stroll down memory lane.

You're welcome! I don't remember Cheerios ever being a part of it.
It's called Chex Mix for a reason. ;) What I remember didn't contain
mixed nuts, simply peanuts. I think the bagged stuff has little oblong
cheese cracker things in it (not square cheese nip crackers) and
something like small bagel crisps.

You can add or subtract whatever you want to with this party mix.

We make our own version on this rock. It has shoyu and furikake - but no Worcestershire. That way, we don't have to worry about pronunciation.

Perhaps it should be called "Chex Candy". With 3/4 cup of sugar and honey,
there's nearly as much sugar by weight as Chex.

That's why we add furikake - to cut down on the sweetness.

A young man who works for the home inspection company in the office
across the hall buys bags of the traditional Chex Mix. He laughed and
said his nickname is Chex Mix. He was very surprised when I mentioned
people used to (some still do) make it at home.

He's an American. Is a frog's ass watertight?
Furikake Chex mix says nothing about Americans. It could indicate
something about the Hawaiians. They love the stuff.
Furikake Chex? I WANT!
It's wonderful stuff and the taste is surprising/disarming. I don't often get a chance to have any because it's expensive to buy and takes time and careful attention to make. I suppose that one day, I'll make a big batch. It makes a great Christmas gift.

True, sometimes I do. I would say that the vast majority of people here
feed the trolls, in some way or another. As a matter of fact, I cannot
think of one person off of the top of my head who doesn't.

Kuthe is a troll (even though he likely doesn't even realize it). Yes,
you and many other people feed him regularly. My point is not to rub
this in (again), but to make a point that everyone does it.

Quite frankly, I don't care. It isn't bullying when John loves it.
Even if you think he likes it, you have to be pretty sick to do it.
I have nothing to prove to you, go hassle someone else. Don't you have

You haven't copied the RFC bullying yet, but you sure have the RFC

A little of both. I don't see how anyone who CONSTANTLY posts
negatively can be anything but miserable. It reflects on one's
character. I've come around to like most people here, we are who we
are, and we aren't changing anybody. I like you, Joan. Janet UK
constantly picks, and I dish it back (I'll withhold the obvious pun).

If disliking vulgar language makes me a prude, so be it. I don't wish
to have that smut in any reply posted under my name. There's enough of
that floating around here without me perpetuating it.

You serve the same "troll abuse". If you stop picking on me without
being provoked first, I'll do the same for you in return. I personally
think that you enjoy picking on people that you dislike too much to stop
-- I don't think that you have the self control to do so, however.

The word "cunt" is much stronger language in the U.S. than it is in England.
Even I very, very rarely use it--and I use the word "fuck" as a verbal comma.

Note how the MCP deleted the word CUNT but still cheered on the
troll abuse; again. A prude and a hypocrite.
The word is much stronger language in the U.S. than it is in England.
I can assure you, it's strong language here in UK too.

Surely, you must be a strong-minded woman ;)
<ducks>
lol
When in doubt, ask Ed.
I didn't mean to open that door, but I had a momentary lapse in self
control.  Ed will understand my humor ;)
Unlike others, yours is humor.

Mine was sheer shock and disbelief.

I'll say this once, and not again.
I don't want to hear anyone saying that I "feed the trolls",
The rfc trolls played you like a violin, like a sucker you ignored
warnings and took the bait. Now they're enjoying your downfall. Flat
on your face in their shit.
Janet UK
Meaning, he IGNORED your 'advice' (which is talk to no one but who you
approve of).
That was not my advice. Hard to tell which is worse, your memory or
your reading problem.

My advice to Michael was that Bruce in all his manifestations is a
nymshifting troll.

Master druce is much worse than a simple troll. But he will
eventually commit suicide.

Cshenk is barely sentient, so don't blame her for following the
pied piper. She means well, but she is very slightly retarded.

I will admit, some times, that he is. Tell you what... I'll stop
talking to Bruce, if you never comment on John Kuthe thread again.

I'm offering this, because I know that you will never stop commenting on
the Kuthe madness. Honestly, I don't know why I'm wasting my key
strokes, it will go straight over your head.

You could offer that to Jill McGossip too. Many people here would be
grateful to you if she takes you up on the offer. Jill's much worse
than Janet UK with regards to posting about John.

If John would just do the right thing, and kill himself, we could all
stop "posting about John."

Same thing. Talk only to who you approve of. Fortunately for the
minimal health this group has, people ignore you and your constant
insults.

We make our own version on this rock. It has shoyu and furikake
- but no Worcestershire. That way, we don't have to worry about
pronunciation. >> >> https://photos.app.goo.gl/un6xb2BpgXMkzXrf7
It looks glazed. Is there sugar?
He's an American. Is a frog's ass watertight?
Furikake Chex mix says nothing about Americans. It could indicate
something about the Hawaiians. They love the stuff.
Furikake Chex? I WANT!
So make some. He posted a link for the recipe. It contains a LOT of
sugar and honey or cane syrup. The amount of furikake is miniscule by
comparison.

Actually, the amount of furikake is pretty large. It'll end up being
sweet, salty, and seaweed-y.

I like furikake, but it's sweet enough on its own.

I bet you've tested that for yourself master.
