Not all that OT: Pink Floyd

I was listening to an old Pink Floyd album last night ("Meddle"). I had
forgotten that at the end of the song "Fearless" there's a pretty long
snippet of what I assume is a football crowd singing "You'll never walk
alone". Kind of cool. Anyone know what the deal is here? Is it a
Liverpool crowd? Were the members of PF fans?

P.S. Showing my occasional indulgence for dino-rock here, but if you
haven't listended to Pink Floyd's "The Final Cut" in a while (or you've
never heard it at all), you really should give it another listen. The
last album with Roger Waters and just a great piece of work.

I don't know where the writer below got the info but:

'Even the Floyd themselves like this song. Dave said "There are more songs
on that album that are more significant than Echoes -- the one with "You'll
never walk alone" at the end of it..." Those drunken Liverpool fans were
just what the Floyd wanted for this song. Rick said "We featured the
Liverpool supporters because they're the best football crowd in the country
for what we wanted."'

http://www.epinions.com/musc-review-525E-107425C9-3A034822-prod2

That "...they're the best football crowd in the country for what we wanted,"
has an ambiguity that might not necessarily please Liverpool fans.

And I'd be grateful if you didn't mention to anyone else that I know
anything about Pink Floyd. Thanks.

They probably got the idea from John Peel, the venerable DJ, who was a
friend of theirs and who is also a Liverpool supporter. He plays a crowd
rendition of 'You'll never walk alone' on his programme every so often.

Can I ask a favour? It does bring it back OT a little.

We've recently used a sound sample of a football match commentary in a
recording by a popular beat combo but the provenance of the sample is
unclear. It describes a run by "Brown" and I've been told that it was from
an FA Final. My guess, based on the recording quality is that it's 60s
onwards; if it is an FA final, that would limit it to:
Ken Brown - WEST HAM v Preston North End 1964
Tony Brown - WEST BROM v Everton 1968

There's a clip at: http://www.brownrecordings.com/brown.html
It's the "original version".

It's a long-shot but maybe someone recognises it from a recording of the
original that they may have. I'm afraid that it's just idle curiosity on my
part but I'd be grateful if anyone knows which match it's from - FA Final or
otherwise.

I believe all of the above. And yes, your suspicions are correct, it's
a famous part of the track.

Actually, I don't mind Pink Floyd unlike what I said earlier. But it's
not like I have a CD of theirs either.

It's my favourite. People in general don't like or even know this album
('something after The Wall') but for me it's, well, special. Song after
song I do believe in every word, I enjoy every sound.
Nice to see it's not forgotten, greets.

It didn't sell well because it's depressing. That doesn't mean they aren't
great songs.

Angels=height in thousands of feet thus "...flies over Dresden at 15,000
feet."

Possibly chose that particular height because the phrase entered the public
consciousness with the 1952 John Gregson / Jack Hawkins film "Angels One
Five" (1952)

It's a recurring thought in his head.
His pain (creativity) was one of the reasons for the rise and downfall of
Pink Floyd.

At the end it was getting too boring.

Dark Side of the Moon is by far my favorite Album/CD of all time, of

me nothing of what I may play afterwards even comes close.

I'm not sure if animals listen to Pink Floyd. A quick poll of my
family pets revealed that the felines prefer Cat Stevens, and our
mouse likes Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake (somthing about
Mouseketeers I guess).

I think PIGS prefer listening to Pink Floyd ;)
