I thought this was going to be a cusp only, and being that I don't have
a plethora of cuspy possibilities, I' d like to get these in now:

I Feel So Good - J B Lenoir (1962)

Let's Go Home - Staple Singers (1960)

Travelling Mood - Ford Eaglin (1961)

Fannie May is Back - B. Brown and his Rockin' McVouts (1962)

Here's mine.

My selections continue my practice of posting personal favorites as I had said I would, but I had to eliminate Watermelon Man by Mongo Santamaria because, even though I had checked and thought it was eligible, I saw it listed later when I was checking another possible entry.

Here they are. I wouldn't be surprised if at least one is ineligible.

The Climb (Coasters) 1962. Their sexiest song (their only sexy song?), posted to YouTube by one Raj Uk:

Tell Me Today (Speedo and the Cadillacs) 1960. I know Bruce is cool towards this one, but I really like it.

Dear One (Larry Finnegan) 1961. A departure for me, almost Rockabilly.

Chi Chi Merengue (Eloise Trio) 1960. Maybe I'll find one or two people who also appreciate this one as I do, but it's more likely to be another of my "Bill likes it but everyone else places it fourth" nominations. An example of Bahamian Goombay (Calypso) music:

That's the one I expected to be ineligible. I thought perhaps you limited selections to all Top Ten records.

That's why I post early. It's back to the drawing board for me.

I can't believe you left Chi Chi Merengue out of your contest. :-)

Here's three more:

I Love You, I Love You So-O-O (Hank Ballard and the Midnighters) 1960. The flip of Finger Poppin' Time:

Six Days On The Road (Dave Dudley) 1963. Not the first truck driving Country song, but the one that launched a ton of them:

Been A Long Time (Five Quails) 1961,. Harvey Fuqua on lead:

Let's see if my research was successful.

It is for this contest if it wasn't in a Singles Battle. There have been others in prior tourneys, like Fats Domino in the last one, that also stretch the definition of obscurity.

From the comments, it may not be Harvey on lead. I had no problem thinking it was him., but it's not relevant. Whoever it is sounds good.

I'm glad I missed it when checking eligibility. I agree with Dennis that it is not an obscurity and was thinking of withdrawing it even if it was eligible due to the technicality that it was not in a Battle.

As far as I can tell, this was a Jazz/Swing tune co-written by Earl "Fatha" Hines in 1928. It became his band's theme song.

I was able to listen to it all the way through, which means it's above
"a one or a zero," but I wouldn't say I *liked* it. I could see
enjoying it under certain circumstances, like at a beach party after a
few drinks, it might be good to dance to. It's really just too alien
for me, like Indian raga music for example. Can't relate to it.

Frank,

Send your e-mail address to me at: ***@optonline.net and I'll try to e-mail you an alphabetical list of the two Vocal Group Battles. Steve sent it to me and I've found it very useful.

The Reed was recorded and released in 1959, and was in the 1959 battle. The Elmore James finished 7th in the unreleased battle. "You're The Boss" was in the 1960 battle. I think the Otis Rush is good.
Are these three okay?

My selections:

Please Don't Cheat On Me - Sinceres - Richie 545 - 1961

Because Of You - Dreamers - Cousins 1005 - 1962

Please Write - Tokens - Laurie 3180 - 1963

Do You Have The Right - Scotchtones - Rus-Tone 1402 - 1960

The last one is probably the only real obscurity. I discovered it on YouTube after listening to
one of the songs from the May contest (although it turns out that I have an mp3 of it that I got in
2005).

I was tempted to add My Little Darling - Nathaniel Mayer, but selected Oogsey Moo - Jessie Hill instead.

Ready at last. I've done my best to check Roger's battles for these,
but I'm sure you'll let me know if any are ineligible. I was actually
planning to include a bluegrass record, but I decided to save it for
another time. We'll just stick to good old R&B!

Shep & The Limelites: Gee Baby What About You

The Solitaires: The Time Is Here

Lester Young: Wobble Time

Bennie Gordon & The Soul Brothers: Camel Walk
