I now can post my review and report of the Sunday DC Devo Show!

First, my little "adventure" getting to the 9:30 Club.

For those of you who have never had the "fun" of driving in Washington
DC, just remeber the City was designed by a Frenchman for the Horse &
Buggy.

I tried to follow Florida Ave. from US 50 to Georgia Ave. which would
lead me close to the Clubs new & improved location. Well, somehwere
Florida Ave. does a little "zig-zag" and I zagged when I should have
zigged.

I ended up on the other side of Rockcreek park. Trying to get back the
way I cam, I ventured onto a street tht was closed for repairs. This
detoured me to another street that was blocked by some stupid Yuppie
scum double parked in a HUGE SUV that blocked the road (which was very
very narrow).

So I ended up on Massachusetts Ave.

I was driving by the Brazilian, Japanese, and British Embassies
obviously lost. I decided to pull over to the curb & check my DC Street
map. This is when I learned a very important lesson.

NEVER PULL OVER TO THE CURB TO CHECK YOUR WASHINGTON DC STREET MAP IN
FRONT OF THE NAVAL OBSERVATORY! The Naval Observatory is also the
location of the Vice President's residence. I guess Chaney was too busy
plotting the next war or the next plan to raid the Treasury and was too
busy to come out & give me direction. So some Secret Service Agents
pulled up behind my car in a big suburban to make sure I was not some
crazt terrorist. Oh! I was also wearing my "Dobbshead" T-Shirt! The
agents saw me w/ map in hand, figured that I was lost, and asked me if
I needed help.

I told them I was tying to get to the 9:30 Club. One of the agents
ACTUALLY KNEW where it was, and gave me very precise and easy
directions that led me to it.

I got here about 2.5 hours before the show and there was ALRADY A
MINI-LINE at the door! 5 Spuds were there, with coller, lawn chairs,
etc. And the 9:30 Clubs is not located in the best of nighborhoods!

We just sat there nd talked about DEVO, Driving in DC, the 'hood, etc.
Everyone there had not seen DEVO live before. I felt like an old man as
one guy had his 15 year old daughter with him. I realised that she was
not even BORN the last time I saw DEVO!

Since I was stood up by my date (We're going to see WHO!?) I had and
extar ticket. I managed to sell it t what I paid for it and recoverd my
$55 cost. Lucky for him as the few remaining tickets sold out quick!

We also got to seen the Spudboys themselves pull up in the rear
entrance in a van for the sound check. Got to hear the Soundcheck
through the walls and Bob2 stuck his head out the front door to hand a
VIP pass to a woman who was either his wife or part of the DEVO Family.

While in the club waiting for the show to start. Bunch of us huddled in
front of the Stage talking DEVO. One of the crew came out and was
talking about the New York shows, etc. Later learned it was Michael
Pilmer of Club DEVO. Josh, the current drummer, had broken the
fiingertip of his left index finger at one of the NYC shows. It was
slit down the middle. So he had a cast on it. He mostly drummed 1
handed, holding his injured finger up to lessen the pain. Only using
the injured hand when he had too. But was still great. Pilmer also said
they altered the play set to lessen the stress on Josh's hand.

ON WITH THE SHOW! Started with the Clasic General Boy "So you decide to
see DEVO.." clip. Segued into the video montage used to open the
Lollapolosa DVD, which brought the band on stage.

Sets included: Good Thing, Going Under, Girl U Want, Whip It, then the
same basic set they have been playing for the last few years. No Wiggly
World as reported in earlier shows.

Encore was Gates of Steel & Come back Jonee.

Abot 30 minutes after the show, Mark & Bob1 came out for a little meat
& greet. I got immmediate access thanks to me having "Bob" with me.

Got to shake hands with both, got Bob 1 to autograph the energy dome I
bought to help keep the CIA Bad Mooojo waves out of my head. I also got
bit of Jerry's Radiation Suit!

To leave the City, I took the route I now recomend to anyone who is
going to the club: Georgia Ave North to the beltway. Florida Ave takes
you through areas that makes the Bronx look like Club Med.

All looked like ther were tired. Bob 2 looked like he was abut to have
a heart attack at one point of the show. Bob 1 looked like he wanted to
be somewheres else or had something on his mind. Jerry & Mark were
their usual selves and seem to enjoy the show as much as we did. Heck,
they could have saved their voices as most of the audience was signing
along! I think that alone made Jerry Happy.

Compared to the '96 lolla DVD, not as much jumping about. The State at
the 9:30 club is smaller then the Lolla Stage.

The music was good a we all expect!

It was the most fun I had in a long time. Even more fun the X-Day!

My voice is horse, my feet hurt, but I feel great! Need sleep, but
since I am only at work as I type this, I can sleep and still be th
emost productive person in the place!

I live in Delaware. But its never too far to see DEVO!

And the new 9:30 Club is easier to get to. I'll be checking their web
page more often.

I actually have a recording of the Sunday show that sounds pretty good.
I could probably get it on etree over the weekend if people are
interested.

They sold out of the boxers in M and L before I got to them. I can't
find them for sale anywhere on the net, including eBay. Anyone got a
line on how to get a pair or two?

Yea, forgot about Freedom Of Choice!

Its almost they had some "hidden agenda" by singing that one in our

I bet Rush Limbaugh will say they are pulling down our troops moral by
singing that song.

I was actually on the balcony. I've been to the 9:30 club a bunch, and
prefer the sound better up there, generally. Though, it's usually even
hotter than the main floor!

Nice review! Did you see the 7' tall, 350lb bouncer at the 9:30 Club?
My brother's old band, "Ugly" played at the 9:30 Club, too!

All of the State named streets run radial to the Capitol, if that's any help.
Georgia Ave. is a good place to score heroin and a dose of the clap.

I used to do engineering work at the Naval Observatory, so I know where
you're talking about. Also, besides Secret Service, they have the Defense
Intelligence Agency squad, and the Naval Intelligence crew. Just across the
side-street from the Naval Observatory, there's the New Zealand Embassy.
They security guy from the New Zealands invited us to lunch, said come any
time. They have big paintings of tattooed Maori warriors and big avacado plants.
Also, cases of New Zealand wine and kiwis and lamb meat. The lunch deal
for the NZ embassy staff is a choice of a couple of kinds of soup and sammiches.
Just down Mass. Ave. from there is the Brit Embassy, there's a life-size statue of
Winston Churchill making the V-sign. Kids used to stick big joints between the
V-fingers.

I found an old Devo import CD, and got the Choices, Q&A, and Hot Potato--
I've been playing them a lot. And "The Ramones"& also a set of
10 versions of "Wooly Bully" There's a German version and one
by Joan Jett that I like--

I like the 9:30 Club, they have Guiness Stout on tap!

I doubt it. I think they actually have fun now that the pressure's
off and they make pretty excellent money for a 30 year old band, so
why not? Rent some backline, throw on the yellow suits and make a few
grand each. I'd do it.
