If you're watching the Pride parade this weekend (Saturday at 1pm) my band Samba Nova is in position #20 near the beginning. You'll hear us long before you see us though :-) I'll be playing one of the large drums, probably second from the furthest right side in the back row. We have dancers with feathers, dancers with wings, pennant wavers and possibly a juggler or stilt-walker.

Cheers!

Wrong! I'm not sitting between those fat queers. I'll be on the 80+ old man
gay float, just like I am every other year.

Have fun, see if you spot Dan McKay, if so, give him my love.

I usually see Dan there somewhere wandering around the marshalling grounds taking photos etc, and then he rides his motorcycle in the parade itself. I will pass along your greetings!

What a lot of work organizing the band for this... we have some pretty finicky people in the group... retired professionals who are used to running a well organized project. Half the effort is dealing with them. This should be my last ever parade organizing gig, and possibly the last gig in general I organize for this band. I truly love the group but if I have to do much more of this the work will out balance the enjoyment and I'll start to resent it. Time for others to take over.

The weather looks perfect.

The nylon head of my drum split around 2 minutes into the parade. Gahhhh!!!! I was able to turn it and play the bottom but it sounded like absolutely crap. Oh well...

Well, I get the feeling no one in the audience would have noticed (even though the logo on my drum was upside down). To most people it's just rhythmic noise - lol! It's the visuals as much as anything else and we had a big bunch of dancers and flag wavers in addition to the spectacle of the drums. We were awarded Best Non-Profit whoohoo!
