Most countries have seen this... the curve always hits an asmptote, and it has generally been in the 65% to 75% range. The UK has been exceptional in hitting 82%.
But the government, as always, has no plan. Eventually polling pressure will cause it to react and come up with something. Always reacting. Never planning. The story of the whole pandemic in NZ.
It seems that no-one has thought this through. Legislating or
cajoling all of us to get vaccinated is not going to work.
What might work is allowing businesses to insist that public-facing
employees be vaccinated (as a health-and-safety requirement). My
barber has already hinted that in future she and her staff will not
accept customers that are not vaccinated. This requires proof of
vaccination being available though. If employment law changes are
required to allow employers to do this then get this done. This will
mean that the anti-vaxxers will face barriers to employment and use of
services.
Consumers may well choose to use only those service-providers that
serve the vaccinated.
This means that significant incentives to be vaccinated are in place
such that compulsion is redundant.
Everyone receives their record card for keeps as they exit the vaccination booth. Better than nothing and sufficient for now, I'd have thought.
Ah no they don't . Got my first jab and got the card but when I got
the second one they said that they don't use them anymore and you have
to go to your med center to get proof of the vax.
There we go, more evidence, as if any was needed that all this covid stuff
is being done on the fly. Confusion lives.
They have to keep up the fear and uncertainty.
Its the only way they think that they can remain in power..
Look at the Aussies.
They are starting to riot and the police are unable to handle the crowds
because they dont have the ability to deescalate the situation.
And the crowds are starting to hit back
That is what comes from mindless authoritarian "LauraNorder" types -
no balanced approach with warnings and a gradual escalation as
education and the evidence of the need for following the rules has had
time to be realised. The NZ "policing by consent" has had much bette
results; although there are idiots that will not listen (Bishop Tamaki
etc), and of course there are opposition politicians who foment
dissatisfaction for the sake of it.
Look at the Aussies is sage advice - dropping restrictions too early
can lead to total loss of control - putting enabling bars to open
ahead of 1000 cases and 6 deaths per week is just crazy - especially
as the most vulnerable will be the very young . . ..
