Most countries have seen this... the curve always hits an asmptote, and it has generally been in the 65% to 75% range. The UK has been exceptional in hitting 82%.

But the government, as always, has no plan. Eventually polling pressure will cause it to react and come up with something. Always reacting. Never planning. The story of the whole pandemic in NZ.

It seems that no-one has thought this through. Legislating or
cajoling all of us to get vaccinated is not going to work.

What might work is allowing businesses to insist that public-facing
employees be vaccinated (as a health-and-safety requirement). My
barber has already hinted that in future she and her staff will not
accept customers that are not vaccinated. This requires proof of
vaccination being available though. If employment law changes are
required to allow employers to do this then get this done. This will
mean that the anti-vaxxers will face barriers to employment and use of
services.

Consumers may well choose to use only those service-providers that
serve the vaccinated.

This means that significant incentives to be vaccinated are in place
such that compulsion is redundant.

Everyone receives their record card for keeps as they exit the vaccination booth. Better than nothing and sufficient for now, I'd have thought.
Rather easy to forge though. For now it will have to do as the government has nothing to offer, after all these months, for a vaccine passport. I expect when they finally do reveal one it will be as cumbersome as the first iterations of the Covid tracer app. They should just update the Covid tracer app to store a certificate in QR code format, and for people who don't want the app, allow a QR certificate to be requested downloaded. Then update the app to allow these QR certificates to be scanned and validated. That way any venue wanting to only allow in the vaccinated can use the app to scan in their customers' QR certs.

It may well - but as I always say, this country has no alternative but to operate on whatever talents exist among its residual 3.5 million-or-whatever adult population when too many of its best and brightest have hightailed it out of the country to better prospects and rewards. Having always allowed for this historically pernicious talent deficit since my first arrival, I'm pretty philosophical about issues to do with our various public service bodies. I know they're doing their very best no matter what's thrown at them, particularly those at the sharp end of things, medical or otherwise. I also find that the less one goes looking for trouble the less one finds one's self confronted by it.

To be recommended, then.

That is what comes from mindless authoritarian "LauraNorder" types -
no balanced approach with warnings and a gradual escalation as
education and the evidence of the need for following the rules has had
time to be realised. The NZ "policing by consent" has had much bette
results; although there are idiots that will not listen (Bishop Tamaki
etc), and of course there are opposition politicians who foment
dissatisfaction for the sake of it.

Look at the Aussies is sage advice - dropping restrictions too early
can lead to total loss of control - putting enabling bars to open
ahead of 1000 cases and 6 deaths per week is just crazy - especially
as the most vulnerable will be the very young . . ..

While the government has no plan and continues to be closed and stupid! Try getting your head out of your arse and read some of the honest reports Rich. Relying on the clowns that inhabit the Cindy hour daily (though I see she's leaving it to hipkins and Bloomfield these days) only makes you look like a bigger imbecile than you are Rich prick!

Better still look at New Zealand where kids are going hungry because they're not going to school AND poverty seems to be increasing! Not to mention the rise in family violence cases and now Bloomfield is telling us we'll never see level one again but he's still waffling about the impossibility of elimination! Berejiklian had clearly lost control of covid through weak decisions
over some time, but she may also have been aware of the corruption
allegations when she gave up daily briefings. Our NZ Government has
been much more successful at both saving lives and protecting business
- while international tourism may take a long time to recover,
domestic tourism has started - in Wellington the WOW exhibition has
been cancelled, but hotel bookings are still high for the next few
weeks - some for the exhibition at Te Papa, but many who have decided
that Wellington is worth travelling to anyway. Our GDP has held up
better than most countries (or perhaps that should be better than
nearly all countries), and our government debt remains lower than most
countries . . .

Easily forged, but in fact forgery is not needed because a photocopy
is all that is needed. Just produce the card (anyone else's will do
if you are not vaxxed) and away you go. So no - not better than
nothing.

Yep hence my comment about using the app to scan a QR vax certificate - which can not only validate the certificate but match the embedded in it. This name can be checked against name on credit card or D/L.

I really hope that the government delay on this will be due to them creating an internationally compatible vaccine passport, and not something hokey.

It has now come down to scare tactics.
Watch how there will be 'unknown' sources of infection claimed and pleas
for every-one to have foreign bodies shoved up their nose because.

And to heighten the alarm
And traces of Covid in a cities water.
Did it get there by patient or by perp ???

Wastewater tracing is not as useful as it sounds. Recovered cases continue to shed virus particles for some time and there's no information on where people who have left Jetpark are living.

This will
mean that the anti-vaxxers will face barriers to employment and use of
services.
People have the right to refuse medical treatment, so saying they must get
vaccinated is getting onto thin ice.

People also have a right to their opinion, beliefs etc.

This whole vaccination passport idea could blow up in ones face, or fuel the
divide.
Yep, the black market will supply what is needed if the profit is great
enough.

Covid-19 and its variants are legally notifiable diseases.

Now take it forward from there.

You know I only suggest it as a stop gap measure. Credit card technology can accomplish whatever it takes, the sooner and simpler the better.

Some others with high vaccinate rates. The UK has done well but it is not out
front all by itself.

Uruguay 87.5%
Maldives 97.5%
United Arab Emirates 92.3%
Singapore 80.6%
Qatar 79.4%
Malta 85%

https://www.bloomberg.com/graphics/covid-vaccine-tracker-global-distribution/#dvz-section-purchasing

This has the UK on 73% for one dose. Must admit that % vaccination can be a)
full, b) partial, c) of whole population d) of 12+ of population.
