Well, my wife and I both called off work this morning.
We've both had 3 shots, so it shouldn't be that bad. I
guess I'll be getting a few days rest. There are no tests
to be had, but it's very likely Covid.

The silver lining is now you can spend more time in here
showing your never ending love for Kuthe.

That's a win for both of you losers.

An unvaccinated friend of mine did a self test and it was negative.
Now, two days later he has all the symptoms.

Apparently there are both. Anecdotally, my son was sent home from work
the other day when he tested positive, though the appearance was
questionable. He did another test when he got home he did another test
and had similar questionable results that may have been positive and he
was told to take it as a positive. The next day he did another test and
it came back clearly negative.

There's a whole lot of big money being made during these panicdemic times.

Vaccines, testing, booster shots, testing. All 3 booster shots and more
constant testing, testing, testing. Waiting hours in lines to be tested.
Now a 4th booster shot will probably be necessary and more testing.

Masks, no masks, masks again. Ok to get back in public now. Oops, virus
is spiking again so quit going in public. Get tested, get tested...get
TESTED Dammit! Wear your mask unless you're tested

Now the new variation - combo of Covid and regular flu together. I can't
recall what they named that one. All y'all, don't forget your regular
flu vaccination either. And wear a mask in public, or not. Be sure to
get tested.

If in Quebec, there is again a 10 PM to 5 AM curfew. We are not even
allowed to walk the dog during the curfew.

The worse part is, everyone knows the major spreaders are non-vaxed &
children. But the politicians need to be seen as 'doing something'. I'm
just glad I don't need to put a mask on my dog.

In the city, I presume. Is there a prohibition against being outside in
your own yard between 10 pm and 5 am?

City or rural, you are allowed on your own property; not on the street.
You are not allowed to be driving around unless commuting to work, &c.
I have friends whose son and DiL were working in Jordan when this
nonsense started. They were not allowed to take their dogs their business.

So many ludicrous rules that make no sense. We can take off our masks
in pubs and restaurants IF sitting down. Standing up in the same spot?
Must wear a mask.

One good thing here is that many businesses are ignoring many of the
'mandates' where possible. We went to a pub for NYE, I and many others
should have been refused entry due to not being 'double vaccinated'.
nobody checked, nobody cared, either. No one wore masks.

You have to wear a mask going into bars here, but once you get to your
place you can take it off.

You can remove your mask to consume food. The day I went for my booster
there was a couple guys coming into the mall. One of them was carrying a
cup of coffee so he had his mask pulled down. I guess he figured he fit
the exemption anywhere in the mall so long as he had a drink in hand.
Maybe that help to explain why we are back to restaurants being closed.

I go by my second name and that is what is on my driver license. My
health card and vaccine passport have my first name. We have to show our
QR codes and photo ID to eat in restaurants and to get into gyms and the
local community centre. I have had to show them many times. No one has
noticed that they are two different names.

QR codes simplify things. You can get it tattooed on your forehead and
a scanner at the door will open if you are up to date.

Yes. My guess is in the future, everything will have QR codes. On this
rock, we have to QR code upon awakening each day. Soon, you'll have to
QR code each and every poo you do. Just in case any SARS like
antibodies may be detected at the treatment works.

I used to work for a company that made bar code readers. You had a badge with your personal bar code ID. You used it to punch in and out. When you started a job, you'd scan your ID badge and then the job ID. It was quite a system. Of course, your bosses knew what you were doing for every minute of the day. That was pretty cool.

France, for instance, has one of the most formidable militaries in Europe, can project force to
other continents rapidly when it needs to, and possesses nearly 300 nuclear warheads.

But nobody in the US worries about France’s military capabilities because the French aren’t about
to order an invasion of the US mainland.

Of course, North Korea isn’t France.

Policymakers need to stop viewing North Korea as suicidal and start viewing it as a rational
actor whose ultimate objective is self-preservation. Only through a realistic analysis can
Washington begin to form a North Korea policy that actually works.

You call that a good thing, Dave? Ignoring masks are what keeps this
virus problem alive. It's not the unvacinnated spreading this, it's the
completely vaccinated going out in public with no masks thinking it's
all ok now.

Fully vaccinated are still getting and spreading it. People are "over
it" (the restrictions) but it's still too soon to be "over it."

These days, earth seems to be a haven for imbeciles. Many more people
will die unnecessarily before this fades away.

When I was at the grocery store yesterday I noticed a young man who was
bagging groceries at the next checkout stand. He had on a mask (all
Publix employees are required to wear one). All the customers were
wearing masks, too, including myself. What was disturbing is this young
man was wearing his mask under his nose and I noticed he kept rubbing
his nose, then bagging peoples food. WTF?! He may as well not have
been wearing a mask and then to see him using his hand to wipe his nose
several times then touch the food... I'm glad I was in a different
checkout lane.

I would have reported him to the manager immediately.
One good thing about checkout staff having to wear masks is that you
don't get finger licking any more to open the plastic bags.

One good thing here is that many businesses are ignoring many of the
'mandates' where possible. We went to a pub for NYE, I and many others
should have been refused entry due to not being 'double vaccinated'.
nobody checked, nobody cared, either. No one wore masks.
You call that a good thing, Dave?
???  You have your attribution wrong. I did not write tht.

Ignoring masks are what keeps this virus problem alive. It's not the
unvacinnated spreading this, it's the completely vaccinated going
out in public with no masks thinking it's all ok now.
I had commented about the dipshit walking through the mall with his
mask down and his coffee cup in hand.  The exemption from masking is
for people in restaurants not for people walking around.
Post by Gary
Fully vaccinated are still getting and spreading it. People are
"over it" (the restrictions) but it's still too soon to be "over it."
These days, earth seems to be a haven for imbeciles. Many more
people will die unnecessarily before this fades away.
It seems that every time restrictions are lifted there is another
surge in infections.
When I was at the grocery store yesterday I noticed a young man who
was bagging groceries at the next checkout stand.  He had on a mask
(all Publix employees are required to wear one).  All the customers
were wearing masks, too, including myself.  What was disturbing is
this young man was wearing his mask under his nose and I noticed he
kept rubbing his nose, then bagging peoples food.  WTF?!  He may as
well not have been wearing a mask and then to see him using his hand
to wipe his nose several times then touch the food... I'm glad I was
in a different checkout lane.
Jill
I would have reported him to the manager immediately.
You're right, I should have done that.

One good thing about checkout staff having to wear masks is that you
don't get finger licking any more to open the plastic bags.
Publix Supermarkets switched to paper bags years ago. It had nothing to
do with Covid-19, more about recycling plastic bag concerns. They have
bins in front of the store for recycling plastic bags, foam egg cartons,
plastic bottles, etc.

Most markets here have recently gotten rid of plastic bags, they use
reusable or paper bags. We were using plastic bags for used cat
litter but we can't even buy those anymore, used to be a carton of
1,000 for $9.99, but no more, now we use paper bags.

Most SMs here now charge for them and encourage the use of cloth bags.
The plastic bags at the Co-Op stores are biodegradable and we can use
them to collect bio scraps for the City's composting program.
The federal govt has introduced legislation to ban single-use plastic
bags and polystyrene food containers.

The two near me still use plastic. I've never seen a paper one except
for bottle if you have two glass bottles of wine, one get a paper bag.
I have a 4 bottle re-usable for that though.

Early in this pandemic one of town counsillers died of Covid and another
was sick with it. The one who got sick happened to own a major grocery
store in town and had been seen coughing and sniffling at work and not
wearing a mask... before they were mandated. The suggestion was that he
obviously gave it to the guy who died. Heaven forbid it might have been
the other way around.

The same week that happened I was at another local grocery store and
there was a woman stocking produce. She was wearing gloves. I saw her
cough into her hand and then proceed to handle the produce with the hand
she had just coughed into.

Our state government lifted restrictions even though they knew omicron
was coming. Now some restrictions are back but in the meantime
everybody has already infected each other. Politicians should never be
in charge of practical things. They're only good at talking without
saying anything.

Still, if you insist, people are participating in population control

I have friends whose son and DiL were working in Jordan when this
nonsense started. They were not allowed to take their dogs their
business.
So many ludicrous rules that make no sense. We can take off our masks
in pubs and restaurants IF sitting down. Standing up in the same spot?
Must wear a mask.
Post by Jeßus
One good thing here is that many businesses are ignoring many of the
'mandates' where possible. We went to a pub for NYE, I and many others
should have been refused entry due to not being 'double vaccinated'.
nobody checked, nobody cared, either. No one wore masks.
You call that a good thing, Dave? Ignoring masks are what keeps this
virus problem alive. It's not the unvacinnated spreading this, it's the
completely vaccinated going out in public with no masks thinking it's
all ok now.
Fully vaccinated are still getting and spreading it. People are "over
it" (the restrictions) but it's still too soon to be "over it."
These days, earth seems to be a haven for imbeciles. Many more people
will die unnecessarily before this fades away.
the Earth is just culling and tidying up. Ever watch those archeology
TV programs and wonder what happened to wipe out a certain
civilization? The Earth has been through this many times and takes
care of the disarray and dirt and hostilities. My thoughts.
Janet US
The Earth isn't doing a darned thing. People are doing it to themselves.
Cindy Hamilton
Would you prefer Cosmos? I'm viewing the whole. Weather change,
disease, wars and hostilities, elimination of species, and on and on.
Cosmos is even worse. We're insignificant. Even if we kill ourselves
off to the last naked ape, this dirt ball will keep spinning and the
rest of the biome will continue to eat and reproduce.

What are the cause and effect here?
Cindy Hamilton
at the simplist, don't wear a mask you die. The Cosmos is just a
great big machine. One part gets thrown out of whack and there is a
response to balance things out. For instance too many people on
earth, not enough food, people starve. Inattention to
digging/reshaping of the earth, rain comes and floods reshape to a
more stable shape. Even pinball machines respond to cause and effect.
Ultimately there is a cause with a resulting effect for everything. I
tend to anthropomorphize. Don't let the thought of a higher power
unsettle you. It's just the way things work.

Fully vaccinated are still getting and spreading it.
Reports about this vary. I often hear that fully vaccinated are less
likely to get it and if they get it, they get it lighter and are less
likely to pass it on. The unvaccinated, however, are fountains of joy.

Get vaccinated. Wear a mask. Keep your distance. Use your brain.
Not complicated at all.
Of course. It is the way Canadian governments work. When you have a
problem with a group that refuses to comply with laws and common sense
you make stiffer laws that will end up being obeyed by those who had not
been a problem. They learned this from the Liberal's idiotic strategy
on gun control. When you have a problem with a small group of criminals
who apparently refuse to obey the law you impose ever stricter controls
on the licensed gun owners who have not been a problem. The anti gun
lobby is thrilled to see they are getting their way and the criminals
are unaffected.

The only way is to do what Macron said: "I'm going to piss the
unvaccinated off". Allow them to do less and less. Until they get so
annoyed they'll ask for a vaccination. Then you'll be left with a
handful of kooks who live in the hills and have to send a vaccinated
family member out to get their groceries for them.

I told this story back in the beginning of Covid (almost 2 years now)
and I don't think you showed up here yet???

Anyway, I was doing a morning walk in the neighborhood one morning and
passed a neighbor with a small dog. She was wearing her mask and her dog
had a mask around his neck (but not over his nose and mouth).

Funny, so I asked her about that.
Getting ready for their morning walk, she put on her mask and the dog
looked at her curiously like, "Hey, what about me? I want one of those
too."

So she put one around his neck and he seemed happy. LOL

It's spread everywhere, there is no stopping it, unless everyone hides
inside for a month or so, but people won't ever do that. Not during the
initial lock downs, not ever. Not enough to matter, anyway.

"The spread" could have been stopped from the beginning, but poor
actions and response made it a losing uphill battle. We're now dealing
with the least lethal, most easily spread strand of all. I can't tell
you how many people at work have gone home because of COVID. The no
longer shut down the building as they did just months ago, because it
would NEVER be open. Same for people at the antique mall, many have had
the virus lately. Many of the vaccinated folks have had it, BTW. If
you're at high risk, avoid people, and wash your hands. I do that
regardless.

Maybe. Maybe not. The only way to know for sure is to contract it

I wear glasses. You really are a snowflake.

Wearing an N-95 mask is not nearly as annoying as the organic vapor
respirator I was wearing for a couple of hours last Saturday.

better stay away from him. He might kill them.

And people with glass eyes. Remember glass eyes? They were
a much bigger thing when I was a kid. Heck, some kids, if you
said, "glass eye," they'd be like, "Huh?" These kids these days.
Why, I bet if there was a guy who took out his glass eye, kids
these days would get all freaked out. When we were kids we'd
have been all, "How cool!"

I read this to my wife and she said, "It really was like that."

I've never actually met anyone who had a glass eye. I did get new eye
glasses late last year and had to pull my mask down. The mask fogged up
the phoropter.

I have had to wear a mask for my last two eye exams. It is not to bad
with they are giving you the two correction choices. Reading the letters
is tricky because as soon as you start reading them out your glasses fog
up.

Speaking of which, in a few weeks I have two appointments with my
opthamologist. The first one will be with one of his staff for tests and
imaging. The consultation is a week later. My right eye is still messed
up. I have few problems with both eyes open but the centre field of the
right eye is still too blurry to read anything. I can see objects there,
but cannot read letters. He said it should improve but will never be
100% again.

If they are well done, it is sometimes difficult to know. We had a
young soccer player who had to have one. He had several sessions with
an artist so she could match the colouring in his good eye and when
the bad eye was out, they were able to leave the back of the eye so
that there was some movement. However, he used to prank a lot by
taking it out, it offended the squeamish. He had simply had a flu
virus which settled in his eye, not unusual apparently, deadly if it
goes to the heart.

True story. Granddaughter has had one since about 13. The family was at
Disney on vacation standing in line and she tripped. When she went
down, the glass eye popped and she caught it in her hand. Got up,
opened her hand to show mom. Big old lady behind them nearly passed out.

She just turned 27 and yes, she has intentionally freaked out people at
times, even when she got her last eye exam

I still wear one when going in stores. It's a good defense, why toss it
out when the vaccines are not working.

No big deal to me to wear one in a grocery store for about 30 minutes.
And if I walk to my local convenience store, only about 5 minutes
inside. Shopping early eliminates large crowds too.

Now that it's getting cold early, I often wear it while walking to the
store or just doing a morning walk. Not for antivirus but just to
breathe warm air.

Masks, no masks, masks again. Ok to get back in public now. Oops, virus
is spiking again so quit going in public. Get tested, get tested...get
TESTED Dammit! Wear your mask unless you're tested
Now the new variation - combo of Covid and regular flu together. I can't
recall what they named that one. All y'all, don't forget your regular
flu vaccination either. And wear a mask in public, or not. Be sure to
get tested.
So what are you saying? The whole virus thing (over time since you
include the flu) is a money making scheme made up to rob the
public????12
Your disbelief and criticism of all things government causes you
problems.
I have to admit that there is some reason to be skeptical of some of the
claims made by authorities over the course of the pandemic. I have
remarked on my objections to be told to "follow the science" when the
information is based more on anecdotes than in empirical science.

At the beginning we were told that we didn't need to wear masks. As it
turned out, they were concerned about the shortage of masks and other
PPE and didn't want people hording them. Once there was a good supply of
masks we were told we have to be masked.

Then the vaccines came out. There were reviews of the various vaccines
and Pfizer was among the most effective. Within a couple months we
found that it was not as effective as we had been told and that after a
couple months its effectiveness had dropped to a small fraction of the
original projection, so we needed a second shot. It was supposed to
raise protection above that of the original shot and should be given
within a certain time frame. Well, hell, a lot of people still hadn't
had their first shot, so the extended the time between the shots.

Now those second shots are only providing about 65% protection, not the
95% + we had been told, so we have to get a third booster. The booster
would be best within a few months but.... we still had a lot of
unvaccinated people and those who had only one shot... so now it can be
6 months.

When I went for my booster I was supposed to get Pfizer again. I got to
the clinic and I got a spiel about how for my age group I would be
better off with Moderna. I was suspicious. Here we are a week and a bit
after the booster and I heard on a news report that the are pushing the
Moderna for older folks so there will be enough Pfizer for the younger
people.

What it comes down to is that the things they tell us seem to have more
to do with their supplies than the real data.

Supplies are part of the data. Public policy isn't just about what's
the "best" thing; it's about what's achievable for the most people.

Well, my wife and I both called off work this morning.
We've both had 3 shots, so it shouldn't be that bad. I
guess I'll be getting a few days rest. There are no tests
to be had, but it's very likely Covid.
Ewww!

[disinfecting screen and keyboard]

So your son just took it to Mexico and gave it everybody on the
plane? Or was it Mumbai? Or Kiuala Lumpur? Don't they require
testing before international flights?
