[cw-discuss] CXGames & Wrath of the Lich King

Has anyone had any luck installing the latest World of Warcraft xpac?

I couldn't get the CXGames installer to read the DVD (which refuses to mount
as iso9660, but does mount as UDF - at least on this box), so I tried the
downloadable installer from Blizzard's website. Installing that as 'Install
other game' runs fine up until the installer puts up the EULA. No matter how
I scroll the agreement text (mouse scrollwheel, click+drag scrollbar, up/dn
arrows, pg up/dn, home/end keys), the 'Agree' button stubbornly remains
greyed out and I can't get any further.

Any thoughts / suggestions?

Cheers,

- brendon.

I should add, that I'm aware the DVD media is dual-layer (which probably
explains why it mounts as UDF). I did try dd-ing the DVD contents to disk &
mount the resulting image file on the loopback device, but had no luck with
the CXGames installer that way either (the WotLK installer doesn't start - no
messages or anything... just continues & says the installation has completed.
I could dig up a log file to post if anybody wants to see it.

Is the EULA read from text file? If so 'cat /dev/null > eula.txt' or
the like, that may give you some luck - it's worked in the past on some
other products with that issue.

Unfortunately no - everything appears to be packaged up inside some type of
proprietary archive (.mpq suffixes). Can't find any text files, let alone
one which might be the eula. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Hey Guys,

There's a known problem with UDF DVDs. Take a look here for a workaround.

No, sadly, it won't help you get to 80 any faster....

Finally got around to trying this, and sure enough, the installer will run
from the DVD now. Unfortunately I still can't get past accepting the eula -
the 'Agree' button stubbornly remains greyed out.

Any other suggestions anyone?

When you get to the EULA page, use Cntrl-A to select all of the EULA
text and see if that unlocks the Accept button. I use this as a
shortcut for several programs, but I use a Mac so be forewarned that
this may not work with other Unixes/Linuxes (this is the correct plural
form, Linux is NOT a Latin based word.)

No luck :-( can select all eula text with ctl+a, but no effect on
the 'Agree' button. Tried all possible combos I could think of - page
up/down, arrows up/down, home/end, mousewheel scroll, mouse click&drag
scrollbar... eula text happily scolls up & down but 'Agree' remains
frustratingly greyed out & inactive :-(

I think meantime I'll just copy the whole WoW tree over from another machine I
often play on that's running Windows... but it'd be nice to have this work
with cxgames.

Thanks for your suggestions though.

This may or may not work. Does WoW-WotLK create registry entries on
your Windows system? They would have to be correctly created for
CXGames. If no registry entries are created, then this might work for
you. I do not recommend using the same Windows directory for the
Windows version and the CXGames version.

Thanks for your suggestions though.

It is d/loadable directly from Blizzard, but I think they require you to
create an a/c with them first. Whether it's available via their 10-day trial
a/c I'm not sure. I had to login to my real Blizzard a/c in order to access
the WotLK d/load version, so I'm not sure if it's accessible outside an a/c
login.

Actually it will / does - I've done it before (makes for easy backup & restore
in the event that I accidentally hose something). No registry entries get
created - it just plays directly from the game folder. You can also copy it
to say a USB key & take it with you to play from anywhere you have net access
(not tried that personally mind you, but I have heard/read reports of people
doing just that).

cheers,

- Brendon.

I went thru my wine registry on Ubuntu, and didnt see any entries other than
normal WoW.exe and Uninstall.exe

When we've had files corrupt, we just copy the files over from a windows
computer, and Wine even says thats a way to install the game if you have
issues with CDs or DVDs.....Im not sure what goes on with Wine's virtual
registry.

And remember, the EULA wont let you just hit Agree, you have to "read" it.
If you can get it to install, try setting your config.wtf:

SET SoundOutputSystem "1"
SET SoundBufferSize "300"
SET gxApi "opengl"
SET ffxDeath "0"
SET ffxGlow "0"
SET SmallCull "0.010000"
SET trilinear "1"
SET useWeatherShaders "0"
SET weatherDensity "0"
*SET readTOS "1"
SET readEULA "1"*
SET readScanning "-1"
SET readContest "-1"
SET locale "enUS"

Thanks Stephanie - but I've already managed to progress beyond that. The
problem I'm currently having is just not being able to hit the 'Agree' button
to accept the eula - it remains greyed out & inactive even after scrolling
the text down to the bottom (and of course clicking 'Decline' aborts the
install).

And just so you know what we're doing - we're testing this on 4-5
machines. It works on all but one of them (a Fedora Core 9 box). On
the FC9 box, it failed nicely, but when we ran with 7.1.2, it worked.
(It works fine with 7.1.0 on all the other systems).

We're still trying to get to the bottom of it, but I suspect that there
is a timing glitch here, and the shift to 7.1.2 isn't a real fix, but it
just shifts the timing enough to make it work.

Cheers,

I can confirm it works on my Gentoo box too. As a matter of fact, the 'Agree'
button on the eula page was already active before I scrolled the text to the
bottom (but I did that first, before clicking it just to be sure). The
installer carried on fine after that. Plays just fine now :-)

Did you use this to get around the EULA being locked?

I think the disk is mounting and data can be read, but the EULA is not responding and allowing Brendon to accept it.

Brendon:

Are you using these steps to mount the WotLK DVD?

There's a known problem with UDF DVDs. Take a look here for a
workaround.

the 'Agree' button stubbornly remains greyed out.

I used Wine....so didnt have the problem. But if the game installed ok,
then changing the config.wtf might get him past it.

Did you use this to get around the EULA being locked?
I think the disk is mounting and data can be read, but the EULA is not
responding and allowing Brendon to accept it.
Are you using these steps to mount the WotLK DVD?

To get Ubuntu to see the files on the DVD, you have to mount the cd as
root,
and give it the -unhide option
mount -t udf -o ro,unhide,uid=1000 /dev/<something> /mnt/temp (cd mount
point)
exit
cd /mnt/temp (cd mount point)
wine Installer.exe
Heres the link from Ubuntu forums

Hopefully that will help you guys, even tho not using wine
