Ken, if around, might have posted this link

https://www.45cat.com/record/f1508ca - 1951

and here's a Capitol Records advert in Billboard, from June 1951:

I probably would have posted this one, though:

since it includes label shots and a more specific date.

Hey, Ken, since you're *reading* this thread, why don't you dip your

Geoff has posted 3 times in this thread but has not voted. He made a post in the last group to say that he wasn't gonna vote. Not sure what's up. Maybe he has stopped voting all together because I won't agree to prearrange the matchups like he proposed?

No. It's this result, and what it means, that was the last straw:

8 out of 11 people put this record first, and even Dennis put it 2nd=

1-I May Be Wrong - Little Johnny Jones & Chicago Hound Dogs - 39

with 6 people putting this last:

4-Lover Boy - Cleftones - 25

My focus here is not on "Lover Boy" (6), but on "I May Be Wrong" (3.5).

The gap in music taste is significant, which means that my votes generally only
serve to slightly distort the results of the round-group contests in this 50s
tournament.

So I've stopped voting for 50s Obscures. No big deal of course.

Yes, and on the way home I got mugged by a 70 year-old who wanted the turntable.

Geoff, don't do this to me. I was counting on your vote helping my nomination of" All My Love Belongs To You." :-)

But I do understand your frustration, probably more than most.

Look, I was pissed at some of the results of Roger's battles. Particularly with some shitty Nat King Cole pop record (Mona Lisa) beating out all the great R&B of that year, but I never even considered not voting anymore. That's just a cunt move.

OTOH I was pleasantly surprised that the great "Mona Lisa" won
(almost) all around acclaim from the contest participants that year
and ended up as #1 but there were also three non-r&b country records
that made up the Top Four best performing records of 1950 courtesy of
Hanks Snow and Williams. Fats Domino came top for r&b at #5 with "The
Fat Man" of course.

"Mona Lisa" came thisclose to winning the later pop battle too beaten
only by The Platters and "Smoke Gets In Your Eyes".

Very popular record around these parts!!
but I never even considered not voting anymore.
This I fully agree with. I'd feel just the same in the event of
something I disliked winning a contest I took part in

Hey, Ken, since you're *reading* this thread, why don't you dip your

For the same reason that I never voted in any of Roger's Battles.
