I suppose that's better than being canceled. It might actually have a

Saturday night is where TV shows go to die. At least the remaining episodes will get
aired. That's better than canceling it.

What I'm thinking is that Fringe was about to be canceled, then they
moved it to Fridays. It managed to last a couple more seasons because
it had a small but loyal audience. The same thing could happen here,
though I realize it's a long shot.

Friday is looking more and more like Saturday every season. I wouldn't be
surprised if one of the networks just gives up and gives one or both nights
back to its affiliates by the end of the decade.

Don't underestimate a major network making a deal with a major sport:
college football and basketball, NASCAR, MMA, etc. for most (if not
all) of its Saturday night programming. That kind of niche and proper
marketing could make Saturday night very profitable for any network.

As for Fridays, CBS has a hit with Blue Bloods that, if the show isn't
moved, could lead to a rebuilding of the night for the network.

NASCAR runs a limited number of races on Saturday nights, and their
schedule is already set up on Fox, ABC, TNT and NBC for the next few
years, at least.

Understand Nancy but, I think, if Saturday Night on: ABC, CBS, FOX or
NBC came to be known as "NASCAR NIGHT," "MMA NIGHT" "NCAA HOOPS NIGHT"
etc., that it's possible the network which got out in front of this
(rather than like NBC throwing the night away on SNL repeats and
SMASH)...actually could have a very profitable night in terms of
revenue and ratings.

I will give you that. Fox will certainly stay with the Saturday sports
block for at least a few more years to promote the upcoming Fox Sports 1
network.

I think though Jason it will take one of the major "over the air"
networks going all-in with Friday and/or Saturday being known as
"NASCAR NIGHT" or "MNA NIGHT" for it to really have a chance of
catching on.

Heck, even a "WWF night, particularly on Saturday, IMHO would do much
better ratings wise than what NBC has done with SNL repeats at 9 and
10 and now SMASH episodes being burnt off. Same with ABC when they
began doing the same with The Bachelor on Saturday nights for a while
there.

Rather than chuck the night(s) ratings-wise, make a deal with
something: NASCAR, WWF, MMA, NCAA basketball, NCAA football etc. and
become known for being "that Friday or Saturday night" station.

Anything would be better than drawing the ratings they are
now...particularly with NBC now moving SMASH there and throwing its
hands up in the air knowing the ratings are swirling down a crap laden
toilet bowl in doing so.

Uh, no on the Friday thing. Discovery channel owns Friday night, and
viewership of their "gold" programming (and other shows) is higher
than they have ever experienced. ABC does alright on Fridays, too,
with two sitcoms leading off, and Shark Tank following.

Saturday is another thing altogether....not much there.

Friday is one of my favorite TV nights; it requires major viewing and
recording juggling: 'Touch,' 'Nikita' and the 3-hour 'WWE Smackdown.'
Rachel Maddow gets bumped to the 6 a.m. Saturday airing.

Yep. I'm happy about the move to Saturday. It should be easy to
wrap the series up with a satisfactory ending in a few more episodes.
Have Bombshell open on Broadway and be a big hit. Happy ending.

What I hate is when they simply drop a show mid season with no
resolution as they did with "V." Arrrgggghhhhhh!

Mid season! Hell look what they did with Zero Hour, they
killed it after a paltry three episodes. Gone! No burn off.

"V" was a poor remake; been there, done that. OK, momma
lizard and her kid were cute ...um, maybe even hot. Just the
same, no edge of the seat there for me.

The ending was completed a few weeks ago, cliffhangers intact. I
doubt SMASH will be renewed or that new scenes will be filmed tying up
the loose ends. It is what it is.

The pity is SMASH season 1 was a growing hit, if only by word of mouth
and lead in from The Voice. Season 2, adding Jennifer Hudson and
diverting from, rather than build on the successes of Season 1, doomed
it to not just failure but dismal failure. Once Hudson got as much,
if not more, screen time in any episode than McPhee and what she
represented, end of SMASH.

Zob, you ignorant parrot..... the theater where SMASH was filmed in
NYC had a large cover over the marquis, about 4-6 weeks ago because
they wanted to keep the season finale (who was actually going to play
the lead..another plot twist) as secret as possible. They shot the
final episode of the season (most likely of the show as well), took
the cover off and filmed it as quickly as possible and then removed
all vestiges of SMASH ever being filmed there.

To go back now, recreate any of it, etc. just to tie up loose
ends...for a series that essentially has been dead in the water ever
since: 1.) it lost The Voice as a lead-in and 2.) turning the show
away from Katherine McPhee to Jennifer Hudson as season 2
began.....condemned it to failure and nothing's going to happen other
than the ending already in the can. Same with all the loose
ends...technically cliff hangers that were meant to be there for
season 3 (LOL at that happening).

Now, go read up again why 2+2=4 and not 2+2=5 as you had to learn the
hard way a couple of years ago. Something you don't want to remember
I know but, in your case, a necessary lesson of repetition.

Bob, YOU ignorant parrot. It is SOP for shows on hiatus to strike sets,
especially if it is to be in a NYC theatre. The owners always hope to find
a long term show to take their theatre. The more that theatre is tied up in
a show on hiatus, the less money the owners make.

Whether or not "Smash" will be cancelled is only a guess by
anyone.....including yourself. You are not an expert on anything, Bob, your
opinion to the contrary. I would be more likely to listen to the opinion of
a bum on the street than you.

Ahh, the "poor zob defense team" has gotten its mission. Leave it to
the one class a day English teacher to jump to the forefront in his

SMASH rented the theater for its season finale. They covered the
marquis, not for "Bombshell" but to cover who the star of "Bombshell"
was going to be......part of a season cliffhanger that was finished
before the final, fill-in, scenes were filmed.

SMASH is done, finished and *may* get to burn its season on Saturday
night only if it gets better ratings than SNL reruns. Otherwise, you
may be watching them online or waiting for the DVD to be released.

Honestly, I don't care what you say. But the irony of you changing your

I disagree with you on this. Actually I'm far nastier to Bob than
Moni has ever been. But everything I have written and everything Moni
and Zob have written about him is based on reality unlike Bob's snarky
attacks.
Just one probably futile plea to avoid handing him the victory of having
this group, too, turn into an All About Bob Show...

Surely, you guys have enough opps to continue to battle him years into
it on other groups? I don't know what all it does for any of you, but I
like you and Zob and Moni and don't want to have to miss your posts to
avoid him.

My comment was, that you, Moni, and Bob can hold your own...you all take
nasty shots at each other, so there's nothing to "shudder" about IMO. YMMV

Perception creates its own reality. I believe that everything I have
written about Zob is based upon reality and I have provided specific
evidence to support what I write. On the other hand what Zob has said
about me, with respect to having paranoid schizophrenia or some other
psychiatric disorder, has no basis in fact. Zob cannot provide ANY
credible evidence for his assertions. But his buddies like Moni,
Cheri, Susan and Micki don't give a flying fuck whether he is making
gratuitous insults. They like Zob so they defend him. Hypocrites, the
whole lot of them.

The issue has more to do with whether one person likes another. If a
person likes another person in this group, they are very reluctant to
strongly criticize them. But if they don't like the person, all bets
are off.

Moni is still stinging from the wounds of Bob's lies. I suspect that
Moni is ashamed that Bob pulled the wool over her eyes and is going to
make up for it by attacking Bob at every opportunity.

I'm really in a predicament here then, because I like Zob, Bob, Moni and

I also completely agree with what Cheri said in this thread...there is

There are very few posters here now that I actually don't care for, but
I mostly try to ignore them.

Actually, that's not very funny Judy considering (Ryan is correct) Bob did
in fact pull the wool over her eyes. But she met him in person...this isn't
like some online acquaintance. Bob lied directly to her face. She met him
under false pretenses. How scary is that knowing that he wasn't at all
what he claimed to be. The things they talked about during their visit were
all lies. He should be ashamed of what he did to her.

First off, Sanna....I was making reference to a post I made here in
Season 9 when I said something about "laying awake at night thinking
that Adam Lambert was pulling the wool over everybody's eyes by being
something he wasn't" and since then Ryan has brought it up again, and
again and again (as he is so good at doing! <grin>)

I know nothing about what has, or did transpire between Bob and Moni and
nor do I care to know, because frankly, it is not any of my business,
and I happen to like them both, so refuse to take sides, as seems like
popular behavior in this group.

It also seems a bit strange to me, that some rarely post in here, except
to suddenly pop up out of the blue and start bashing another poster, as
would think they would rather come here to discuss the show, which is
the reason this ng was started, AFAIK.

I put forth a genuine and sincere offer to Zob, just now, to put the

well. Same, in fact, for anyone else.

My hand remains outstretched for a "let's put everything in the past

wishes to accept it in the same spirit.

At the same time, we're all adults. It's stupid to keep rehashing
past wrongs, debates, insults, etc. for more years than they are
worth.

I'm as sincere as anyone can possibly be in the offer to put the past
behind, unconditionally and without hesitation. I've made many
mistakes for sure and so have others. I apologized for my own and do
not expect the same from anyone else. Unconditional, as I've said and
mean.

If any of us really want to put everything in the past and away
forever, we can do it. I'm ready and willing to do so.

tune (plus a bit of a pun on the purpose of this group) not lost on me.
At the very least then you're ahead of poor zob. I would expense a
member of his defense team however to be ahead of him AFAIC.
How sweet of you. Honestly, you must just charm the leaves off the trees
with those kind words. As one dear friend of mine who I miss around here

It's OK; Bob is's just unable or unwilling to recognize his own
flawed character so he tries to deflect to Moni and me and a couple of
others as a transference mechanism. We understand this so it's no
big deal. And it's crystal clear why it's especially the two of us.
It's because we used to be his friends until he betrayed us with his
lies and we finally had our eyes opened. And as long as Moni and I
refuse to be sucked back into his web, it's very difficult for him to
reconcile our distancing ourselves from him with his continued
self-denial of everything that he's done and continues to do.

That's total bullshit.

Only those spending years trading insults with him are sucked in. Cheri
has always chosen to accept each post on its face, without choosing up
sides and sticking to one like a schoolyard clique.

I have had Bob KF'ed since my first week(s) here and have never let him
out of there except for when I recognized his nym and gave him a chance,
that lasted very briefly and in he went again.

Giving him attention is getting sucked in. Choosing civility isn't.

Let's see. You saw how Zob accused me of having paranoid

something similar. You accused me of being delusional or on drugs
which is also pretty off the wall. And when I said that you were going

Perhaps all three.

There was nothing over the top in the above, your behavior these many years
suggests that to me. Others may have a different opinion, but that's mine.
Cheri
The bottom line is that you are a complete hypocrite. Just as Zob was
off the wall for calling me a paranoid schizophrenic, you were off the
wall for calling me delusional or on drugs. I would ask you for a
single bit of evidence to support this opinion of yours that I am on
drugs, seriously deluded or just plain nutty but won't bother since
you will do what you always do when your bullshit is exposed: you
manipulatively avoid the question. Just like you did when you accused
me of never admitting that I was wrong and avoided giving ONE example
in the six years I have posted of where I was factually wrong about
something (not just opinion) and would not admit I was wrong. And you
never will come up with one example since it would take you a very
long time to find one if you ever could.

Subject: OT: TO TC, Vandar, Greg, Tina and all the other heartless bastards who think that poor people should just die
Date: Sun, 05 Jul 2009 16:02:59 -0400
Mayber you're right. Maybe we should just die so you won't have to be
inconvenienced.
This newsgroup used to be a fun place to post. I had friends here.
I just can't continue to associate with people who are so blatantly
selfish, self-centered and uncaring towards the poor and the sick. It
disgusts me. I'm shocked and personally hurt by some of the vicious
sentiments expressed in the thread below. Especially by those for
whom I had respect, and by those like Greg who should know better. Its
ten times worse when one who has experienced oppression and overcomes
it expresses a disdain for the needs of others.
Yes, I'm living off "society" for now; I'm doing what I have to in
order to survive. After working hard for 41 years and contributing
my fair share, I've been out of work for 16 months. I have multiple
disabilities and am waiting for a SSD determination in my case. If I
win my case I will *still* not have enough money to pay rent, buy
food, and buy medication. Yes, I may end up having to find subsidized
housing in the slums to keep from being homeless. Yes, I may have to
have my health care subsidized in some form since I am uninsurable
because of my stroke and heart attack and not eligible for Medicaid
because I am a single man. Yes, for now I'm depending on food stamps
to have food to eat, depending on friends for a roof over my head and
depending on a charity medical clinic to survive. They are
temporarily providing me medicine through samples donated by
pharmaceutical salesmen. I have done everything that I possibly can
to help myself. I exhausted every last dime, every possible personal
resource. I hate being in the situation I'm in because of losing
everything to not one, but two catastrophic illnesses. I did not
choose it, nor do I want it.
I have absolutely no more desire to associate with the people in this
NG who wrote the unfuckingbelievably mean-spirited chain of posts
quoted below. I didn't bother to cut and paste all the names to keep
them straight, it doesn't matter, and I don't care. It was TC, Vandar,
Greg, Tina and others.
I don't want tot take a dime of your freaking money. Maybe without
proper medical care and housing people like me will just die off and
you won't have to dirty yourselves by thinking about us.
I'm through with this newsgroup and you hateful, selfish bastards. I
at least am leaving while still have some pride -- which diminishes
with every nasty post that I read like the ones below. You win. I
hope you're happy. I'm through here and am unsubscribing as soon as
I press the send key.
Have a nice life.
If you allow that to
stand, then you're certainly not the person I thought you were all these
years.
Perhaps it would behoove you to understand that you may just be a very
poor judge of character. Food for thought.

We've had a difference of opinions over the years, but I've always been

Honestly, I don't care what you say. But the irony of you changing your
tune (plus a bit of a pun on the purpose of this group) not lost on me.
At the very least then you're ahead of poor zob. I would expense a
member of his defense team however to be ahead of him AFAIC.
How sweet of you. Honestly, you must just charm the leaves off the trees
with those kind words. As one dear friend of mine who I miss around here
would say: "Bless your heart."
What boogles my mind is that thst there are people here who I believe
are rational, caring human beings who don't shudder at the sheer
nastiness of Bob's attacks on you and Zob which have no basis in
reality.
Micki
It's OK; Bob is's just unable or unwilling to recognize his own
flawed character so he tries to deflect to Moni and me and a couple of
others as a transference mechanism. We understand this so it's no
big deal. And it's crystal clear why it's especially the two of us.
It's because we used to be his friends until he betrayed us with his
lies and we finally had our eyes opened. And as long as Moni and I
refuse to be sucked back into his web, it's very difficult for him to
reconcile our distancing ourselves from him with his continued
self-denial of everything that he's done and continues to do.
And you can't resist taking shots at him at every turn either Zob, so as I
said, you can hold your own with him.
Cheri
And you can't help getting sucked in by him, Cheri. You're blind
sometimes.
He lives in your head Zob, not mine.

Bob. Really. How interesting. My sin was in my innocence where you were
concerned. It isn't sin, really, but rather that Pollyanna belief that
people were basically good. No more. I see you for what you are. For
once, I don't see lies. If others in this group are offended, so be it.
They can killfile me, as is their right. I would be sad to lose whatever
constitutes as friendship these days, but when I see a snake, I will call it
a snake. I do not say this in anger. It would be convenient to you for
everyone to sing Kumbaya and let the past stay in the past. Those who don't
know history are doomed to repeat it. I know that is paraphrased, but the
intent is the same.

Cheri, I attack Bob's lies, I don't make up lies. Bob cannot say the same.
I wish I could say that I would never call him on his lies again, but he
continues to lie every time he twists things around to his own peculiar
brand of truth. You don't wish to see it. I didn't either. Am I
embarrassed I did? Hell, yes.

Susan, I wish you felt otherwise, but if I offend you by responding in kind
to Bob, then please do what you feel you need to do. That is your decision
and I take no ownership of it. I do understand your irritation. I used to
get irritated when you would respond to Judy, non-stop, no matter what the
thread. Do you remember those days? :) However, I didn't want to killfile
you because I actually did enjoy some of the things you said. If you feel
this junk with Bob is more important then, yeah, I guess killfiling may be
the right thing, I'm sorry to say.

My offer of an extended hand for a firm handshake and putting all of
this to bed, once and for all, and everyone moves on, unconditionally
on anyone's part will remain for anyone who wants it.

It only takes one other person to agree for a good and healthy, fresh
start to take place.

It seems to me that we can either live in the past forever or decide
that whatever "risk" there is to a fresh start is worth one try.

My hand remains there for a change for the future, handshake.

Okay, Cheri. Perhaps I do "give as good" as I get. I don't apologize for
stating the truth. Not at all sure what his excuse is, but that is his
nightmare, not mine. That's all.
All that is needed is to turn the page and move forward. Considering
the alternative is another 5-10 years (or more) of the same, life is
far too short. The same handshake I've extended to everyone else
includes you.

Oh for fks sake (Where's BOH when you need him) Enough of the handshake
crap Bob. After multiple times of your offer and not one bite.
Shocker...not. No one is going to move forward until you own up to your
lies and repeated bullshit behavior. How clueless can you possibly be to
think that people will agree to "move forward" when you haven't even
apologized for the past?

How convenient would that be for you? Okay everyone, let's turn the page
and move forward and ignore EVERY thing you've done to make you people
dislike and disrespect so much. Yeah...ain't gonna happen.

I don't give a damn about any of that Moni...my response was to Micki

I don't read that stupid crap, so I don't know how good it is, but it's
clear what characteristics the participants share based upon time spent
and quantity.

Susan, I wish you felt otherwise, but if I
offend you by responding in kind to Bob,
then please do what you feel you need
to do. That is your decision and I take
no ownership of it. I do understand your
irritation. I used to get irritated when
you would respond to Judy, non-stop, no
matter what the thread. Do you
remember those days? :) However, I
didn't want to killfile you because I
actually did enjoy some of the things
you said. If you feel this junk with Bob is
more important then, yeah, I guess
killfiling may be the right thing, I'm sorry
to say.
Moni, you are a classy lady, and you try to reason with posters rather
than "go into a war of words" with them. You take a lot, but you stand
up for yourself too, while usually always maintaining your "cool", and I
think it takes a lot to get your dander up, and when you do, you have
just cause.

You are correct here on what you said to Susan (Ryan had called her on
that too at the time) and it got so bad that I ended up taking a 3 month
hiatus from the group, as you know. There was a couple other unnamed
people that I needed a break from too. I can't killfile with my WebTV
newsreader, so my best bet is to ignore those that can "ruffle my
feathers", but sometimes it's not that easy, as you well know.

I always wish that those that I like so well in here could all get along
like one big happy family, but I know that's not possible, just as with
one's own family, because there is such a difference of personalities,
but it makes it so much more harmonious and just more enjoyable too.

Moni, you need your head examined if you think there's any equation
between the posting volume or redundancy between us. I have probably
one of the lowest post totals ever on this group.

I have often had to kill file you just to make the group manageable to
wade through.

It's nothing about disliking someone, it's about signal to noise.

If you think there is so much value in your non stop, compulsive public
feuding, have at it. It's a sad commentary, from my POV.

Honestly, I don't care what you say. But the irony of you changing
your tune (plus a bit of a pun on the purpose of this group) not
lost on me.
At the very least then you're ahead of poor zob. I would expense a
member of his defense team however to be ahead of him AFAIC.
Interesting that you chose to snip the parts where she said that when you
were friends you complimented her on her job etc...yet now you mock her for
the very same job? What changed...besides the fact that you aren't
friends?

Ahh, the "poor zob defense team" has gotten its mission. Leave it to
the one class a day English teacher to jump to the forefront in his
defense.
What is it about your life that is so unfulfilled that you feel the
constant need to compensate by bragging, lying, exaggerating,
pretending to have insider information, stating your opinions as if
they were concrete facts, and by taking vulgar cheap shots such as you
just did Moni, one of the most liked people in this newsgroup? You
criticize her noble profession, yet you are so ashamed of your own
career and life that you had to pretend to be a comedian, a CEO, an
important political pollster, a priest and a college professor (and a
human being); you had to invent daughters and grandchildren, interns
and teleconferences, you felt the need to pretend to live in a gated
community with guard dogs; you had to make yourself seem important by
lying about getting a personal invitation to, and sitting in the VIP
section of President Obama's inauguration; you have by inventing
expensive cars kept in climate-controlled garages, etc. etc. etc. and
nauseum. And somehow in your twisted mind you think that mocking Moni
for her honest work as an English and Music teacher is an insult to
HER? Do you not realize how pathetic it makes you to everyone reading
your posts? You really would do yourself a favor if you reflect on
that.

Don't you realize that all you would have to do to get people to
tolerate you is to modify that behavior? Do you really not see that
you are constantly having to do battle in this newsgroup while others
don't? I realize that compulsive behavior requires self-examination
and self-control, but it can be done. But you have to want to change
first.

A lecture from you, dear poor Zob...what more could possibly mean
something to someone who has taken as much from you, AFAIC over the
year, as I have done.

When I've been nice to you, you've eventually returned, I think, to
find a way/place to toss nastiness my way. When I respond in kind,
"poor zob" comes out.

As I've said to you, and other of your friends, anytime you want to
move forward from the past to the future, I'm more than willing to
meet you long past halfway. However, a constant repetition of your
version of the past whenever a disagreement comes up, does not IMHO
show me that you're words above are truly sincere.

How many times have I extended a public handshake of "let's start
fresh" to you, zob....and when have you ever publicly accepted it?

I'm doing so again now. If you want to put the past behind us. Here's
your opportunity because my hand is outstanding towards you for a
"it's all in the past" handshake, "let's move forward."

Will you accept it?

The ending was completed a few weeks ago, cliffhangers intact.
You are wrong. Several actors on Smash tweeted that the last show of
this season was filmed just a few days ago on March 8:

The pity is SMASH season 1 was a growing hit, if only by word of mouth
and lead in from The Voice. Season 2, adding Jennifer Hudson and
diverting from, rather than build on the successes of Season 1, doomed
it to not just failure but dismal failure. Once Hudson got as much,
if not more, screen time in any episode than McPhee and what she
represented, end of SMASH.

just can't get invested. That James character...Karen's new love
interest...is as annoying a singer as Hayden P. in Nashville. Neither
one can sing with an open mouth or any movement of their lips...just
stick the chin forward and sing through clenched teeth. It is fine to
listen, I just can't watch them. I have been enjoying Ivy in her new

I don't like that guy either, just because he spits at every opportunity
he's given and he seems to be the focus of the show now. In the real
world, he wouldn't get a second chance because he really isn't that
talented either. I still like the show, mostly because of McPhee and
Hilty, and even the mean director is kind of endearing. If they would
return the focus to the likeable characters I think they could right the
ship, but who knows if they will have a chance now.

Once the show this season moved from Katherine McPhee and placed the
brunt of early emphasis on Jennifer Hudson, the show rapidly fell
apart with her character combined with more plot and storyline changes
than your typical daytime soap, AFAIC.

Which is really too bad because SMASH season 1 had the potential to be
a great show that, even with mediocre ratings and a very high
production cost, may well have been renewed for season 3 IF the new
show runner hadn't decided to make the dumb choices made for Season
2's book of the show.

It has zero chance. Most weeks NBC has been showing cut down, one
