I see she is up for PMQs tomorrow.
An odd choice given her track record perhaps so it will be interesting
to see how she does.
She’s generally a compelling and interesting speaker. The few times that
she’s dropped a bollock and fucked up what she’s trying to say, though,
have proved great fodder for the racists to dine out on. And, yes,
“racists” is justified as there’s at least a dozen or more white female
Tory MPs who are monumentally dense (Liz Truss, for example) but you won’t
hear a bad word said about them from the Abbott haters. It’s not hard to
conclude why not.

It's got nothing to do with race or colour. It's to do with stupidity:

Of which this is a perfect example:

Yes, race or colour aside she must be one of the daftest of our MPs yet
I can never get my head to believe she commands one of the highest
majorities of constituents, having voted her in, anywhere in the country!

Are that many people in one spot really so thick?

I can't even bring myself around to think her charismatic, that alone
might bring in the odd vote.

And that agonising idiosyncrasy she has when answering a question,
"weellll", remindful of a child getting caught doing something naughty
and wants time to think an excuse. Bloody infuriating!

Diane Abbott is extremely talented and charismatic, which is of course
why the Tory-controlled mainstream media is determined to undermine her
by showing video clips of her most humiliating moments.

Meanwhile, apart from being a dimwit and a bigot, Priti Patel seems
unable to pronounce words endin' in "ng". It's a small point but I hate
the sound of her voice. "We are deliverin on the public's priorities! To
the criminals I simply say this. We are comin after you!" Anyway, it's
time to admit that all this extra investment in extra manpower in the
police is merely to reverse the idiotic cuts made by Theresa May.

Oh, I'm sorry if you find it difficult to take my jokes seriously. I've
just been watching PM's questions today. Diane Abbott rose to ask
question of Dominic Raab. She spoke about some obscure black athlete who
had won a medal, said she was sure the House would want to congratulate
this person and then Abbott sat down, having forgotten that she was
supposed to ask a question. Jeers and laughter from the benches. The
Speaker reminded her that surely her remarks were the prelude to an
actual question, so she stood up again to ask about offensive messages
and death threats to MPs.

Not sure if satire, but that’s not what happened. For the record, Raab
jumped the gun and stood to respond to Abbott’s preamble re the athlete,
prompting Abbott to sit down until the Speaker sorted it out. HTH.

I think she did OK today, tbh. She has a bit of a lisp and a fairly thick
accent, and both are exaggerated when she’s under pressure but she made
good points throughout, albeit not especially dazzling ones.

Accent? Born in Paddington, raised in London, attended a local Grammar
School, then Cambridge. Any accent is hardly likely to be an issue.
She has a thick London accent. With her lisp, it makes for difficult
listening sometimes.
Things have changed now but at one time, accents started North of
Watford and Paddington isn't North of Watford.
What are you babbling about? There are wildly different accents across
London, not to mention across Kent, or the South West, etc.
As for the 'lisp', if she has one she has mastered it. It is barely
noticeable, certainly not worth mentioning.
It can be heard every time she talks. It becomes more prominent when she’s
under stress, such as giving a speech.
The problem isn't her diction it is the content.
I look forward to seeing your detailed takedown of every hare-brained,
nonsensical, demented speech Liz Truss gives, Brian. Because you’re

No she hasn’t.
You make her sound like some East End barrow boy from Victorian times.
Why are you saying that she doesn’t have a heavy London accent when she
clearly does? Cockney isn’t the only London accent, Brian.

Your attempts to make excuses are beyond patronising.
It’s simply an observation, Brian. She speaks perfectly fluidly and clearly
when in more calm situations, she only seems to trip over her tongue when
in combative situations such as Parliament, Question Time, radio
interrogations. I wholly concede that such a flaw is not ideal in a
politician, but she’s only human. I mean, you’re barely comprehensible when
you’re just chatting on a 2m net, I’d hate to hear how you’d sound giving a

I used to listen to Diane on the show with Andrew Neil and Michael
Portillo. In many ways she was the anti-Portillo. He was polished and
spoke inspiring confidence in his views but what he said was ultimately
not insightful or just plain wrong. On the other hand Diane's
predictions did seem more reliable.

So I guess we split into two camps the people who like our politicians
to be good showmen and the people who value insight and good policy.

Obviously the media report Diane badly because they are showmen and
value that quality in others.

I think that’s quite insightful. I’d also add that some people will go out
of their way to find fault with Abbott, usually with distinctly bigoted
undertones if not outright racism and misogyny. Brian’s obsession with her
over years is a good case in point. These people aren’t critiquing her
showmanship or policies, but are pursuing a twisted agenda.

So, a Jock could follow what a Geordie (or are you a Mackem? I forget!) was

Or are you saying that you spoke well in front of an audience? If so,

Looking at the recording again, I think Stephen is probably right. Out
of sight of the camera Raab stood up, causing Abbott to sit down. For
which he sort of apologised later. It was Abbott's debut at PM's
Questions and maybe a more experienced performer would have tackled it
slightly differently and maybe said "I give way to the honourable
member" or something. Later, she stumbled over her words when trying to
refer to Theresa May.
She has a grim-faced, finger jabbing way of giving speeches and Raab had
good answers to each of her questions. He was courteous enough to
compliment her, but considering she has been in the Commons for decades
it's surprising that she sounds like a newcomer.
She’s not the slickest of speakers by a long chalk, but I suspect that
years and years of non-stop abuse, not only from plebs but also from damn
near the entire media, has made her susceptible to a level of shakiness
when under the spotlight; she would have known she’d be ripped to shreds
across the board however she performed yesterday.

I see she is up for PMQs tomorrow.
An odd choice given her track record perhaps so it will be interesting
to see how she does.
She’s generally a compelling and interesting speaker.
That’s bullshit with this alone.

She’s generally a compelling and interesting speaker. The few times that
she’s dropped a bollock and fucked up what she’s trying to say, though,
have proved great fodder for the racists to dine out on.
Ms Abbot is the very definition of a racist, someone you would expect to
infer that non-Caribbean mothers care less for their children than
Caribbean mothers.
Post by Stephen Cole
And, yes,
“racists” is justified as there’s at least a dozen or more white female
Tory MPs who are monumentally dense (Liz Truss, for example) but you won’t
hear a bad word said about them from the Abbott haters. It’s not hard to
conclude why not.
Given I don't even know what Liz Truss looks like they are not in the
same league of media attention as Abbot. Perhaps Truss makes less faux pars.

Ms Abbot is the very definition of a racist,
I don't think that's entirely fair. She's paid an awful lot of money for
private schooling at predominantly white schools so her children don't
have to be educated alongside black children whom she believes would hold
them back.

Of course it could be considered racist to assume that Black families can't afford to send their kids to private schools.

Personally I believe ANY differentiation made on the basis of race is racist.

That's not a joke, I went to a school in what could be described as a very cosmopolitan area. I never understood concepts like treating people differently on the basis of skin color until the Racial Discrimination act came along.

I went to school in Tottenham and the black boys talking about black
power and the half-black girls bullying the full-black girls for being
blacker than them taught me what racism was.

You must be aware that almost the only routes to being paid vast amounts

Ms Abbot is the very definition of a racist,
I don't think that's entirely fair. She's paid an awful lot of money for
private schooling at predominantly white schools so her children don't
have to be educated alongside black children whom she believes would hold
them back.
I believe that she wants to end private education for everyone else; but
for her own children, she said that she was thinking more as a mother
than an MP.
In other words, she *knows* that there's something wrong with state
schools. Didn't we see similar hypocrisy when Tony Blair sent his son
Euan to the grant-maintained London Oratory School while trying to
deny other parents the choice?
The only person I ever heard trying to justify this sort of thing said
that political leaders need to be well-educated so that they can teach
the rest of us. I remain to be convinced.
Of course - we can't have the people being well educated because they might
start demanding a better class of politician.
It's far from clear that that has anything to do with education.

Isn't it true that the majority straight from uni (the best educated?)
tend to favour the left side of centre? Before they have that idealism

It is pretty clear that younger people are more likely
to be more left of center. But it isnt clear that that
changes much with the quality of education they get.

And even if those who get more education after leaving
school are more likely to be left of center than those who
don’t get any more formal education after leaving school.

And even if that is true, it could just be that the more
left of center people are more likely to be prepared
to spend more time in post school formal education
and the more gung ho that just want to start working
like you did are less likely to be left of center people,
particularly those who want to get involved in
small business and end up owning one themselves.

And there isnt any real evidence that what is arguably
the better education in private schools does produce
individuals who demand a better calls of politicians.
Plenty of them have no real interest in politics at all.

Before they have that idealism knocked out of them?
There isnt any real evidence of any knocking out involved.
Its much more about attitudes changing as you age.

Yes, there are certainly some like Corbyn and Benn
and you who are just as left of center as you always
were, but that’s not as common as those not as
being as lefty as they were in their youth.

Ms Abbot is the very definition of a racist, someone you would expect to
infer that non-Caribbean mothers care less for their children than
Caribbean mothers.
And, yes,
“racists” is justified as there’s at least a dozen or more white female
Tory MPs who are monumentally dense (Liz Truss, for example) but you won’t
hear a bad word said about them from the Abbott haters. It’s not hard to
conclude why not.
Given I don't even know what Liz Truss looks like they are not in the
same league of media attention as Abbot. Perhaps Truss makes less faux pars.

The problem with Abbott is not that she is black - that only allows her
to play the race card with impunity. It is that she is utterly and
compltely hopeless as an effective human being in charge of anything
more challenging than a soiled nappy.
