How good is the Pete Best Band?

About 11 years ago, my wife and I saw the Pete Best Band in Montreal. All
the band did was cover tunes and "money". Does he have a son? I ask because
I was told the band was based more around pushing his son's career. They
also were not very good. He played drums on about 2 or 3 songs. His
drumming was basic and minimal. We got his autographed after the show. You
would not believe it. His people acted as if he was still in The Beatles. I
told them that this is the closest I'll ever get to anyone that has been
with Paul McCartney! Of course, they did not see the humor in that. All in
all, he still is a piece of history in my eyes and I am very grateful for
his autograph which I had him sign, "To John and Elaine, All the Best!"

Well Pete was given a bums rush but still he was an adequate drummer for
the road but in George Martin's words, "We'll have a professional
drummer for the studio."
As he is your friend, I wouldn't expect you to put him down. I hold no
animosity toward Pete. To most Beatle fans, he was one lucky drummer.

Well I have seen him and his band a couple of times in Liverpool and
although Roug also drums with him, he sounded ok to me. The gigs were very
enjoyable and around 20,000 attended, not bad for a bum!

Anyone remember that?

I saw that, but I don't think it was a special. Clark had a weekly
prime-time series for a while, if I remember correctly. A short while.

Pete Best is a 2 out of 5 as a drummer.Roagie Best is a 3.Two drummers
were needed to give a solid beat to the band.

Beatles to his Swan record label as "she Loves You" was issued on Swan?
The Philadelphia greaseball had the Beatles right in his hand and let

I saw that, but I don't think it was a special. Clark had a weekly

I remember him saying he left the band to pursue a solo career. Then I
read in his book that he was managing the Beatles as he was the THE
star. He could find fame and has released his own LP called BEST of The
Beatles.
It went on to become the biggest selling LP of all time.

The man has been in denial so long he actually believes he was fired
because the others were jealous of his looks. Fact is that he is the
best known coat rider in the history of show Biz.
The other 3 loved him so much that to this day they have never spoke to
him and barely acknowledge his existence. Yet if it wasn't for these
three, Pete would still be washing dishes in the back of some greasy spoon.
Am I a fan? A fan of what? The man can't drum any better than the local
band guy and maybe not as good. He can't sing. He can't write. All he
can be is that over 40 years ago out of desperation, 3 very talented
guys needed a body that owned a drum kit and another to play a bass.
They got Pete and Stu. Stu couldn't play a note and Pete couldn't keep
time.

Dude, Pete is a public person by his own actions. He has considerable
weakneses. He can't be too bad though because he's doing what you state
and he has great admirers like yourself and believe it or not me. But
being public and very well known in the Beatles' family of fans makes
him a target to those that get uptight and defend him to no end. We know
who and what Pete is generally. What anyone says about him is always
wieghed by who's saying it. If you're a great fan of Pete's the first
thing you need to learn is to roll with the punches. Then you can always
come back to: yeah all that is probably true but..Pete is now this and
look at what he did then till now. He's done good. He's never embarrased
himself or the other Beatles with outrageous arrest or press attacks.
Even in his book he never went real far. Maybe a little denial but hey,
he's a human. Good Luck to the former Beatle.

mother ran a popular club in the basement of their home (the Casbah? I
forget the name) where the Beatles played many times. So the Beatles
did not mind taking advantage of Pete's family hospitality when it
suited them and when it was helpful in their climb up the ladder of
success.

Finally, although some people here say he is not talented, if you have
ever bought or listened to Beatles Anthology, several of the very early
songs feature Pete Best on drums, not Ringo. I understand that Pete
was paid nicely for his contribution to Anthology.

So if you really think he is a poor drummer, listen to Anthology and
tell me which songs sound lousy.

shows. The Casbah (in the basement of the Best family home) was
actually the 'birthplace of the Beatles'. Interesting reading about
how all of that came about in the book The Beatles - The True
Beginnings. You might find it in a library....if you don't want to
purchase the book. It is a beautifully produced book and will allow
you to find out more information. Also, as I have mentioned...the new
DVD is out...Best of the Beatles....THAT is very interesting as it also
has some great archival photos and interviews with people who were
actually THERE...no speculation. It also includes the first known
video of the Beatles performing...and it's in color!

Those of us who love Mersey Beat music welcome Pete. I wish he were

The Searchers, The Swinging Blue Jeans, Rory Storme and the Hurricanes,
Faron's Flamingoes, etc. 'cause the Mersey sound wasn't just the
Beatles. So good for Pete for carrying on!

I was thinking that if these guys are really good, it must be becuse
Pete can afford them now. I'd say it would be extremely hard to make a
living on the road doing one nighters across the western hemisphere at
200 patron clubs. Maybe Pete did do a show that had 20,000 but he didn't
draw em. Ozzy must have been generous that day.

they supplement their short U.S. Tours with shows in Europe...where
they DO draw tens of thousands. How about basing your statements on a
bit of fact. The band is incredibly good...where do you live,

area in the near future....then...let's see you lob bombs. Dare you to
take me up on my offer. Well.....????? I'm willing to put my money

I didn't pick any band to 'hitch' myself to...it evolved into a
friendship. But, if I were to hitch myself to a band....the PBB would
be one I would consider an honor to be following. The sheer energy and
the talent shows itself every show.....even if it is only to venues
that some 'big name' would never consider playing. I dare anyone to go
to one of the shows this year and not come out of it understanding why
people go out of their way to find the venues where Pete and the Pete
Best Band are playing. Plus, the fact that each of these musicians
have a great sense of the history of the music they are promoting.
...and I might not have majored in music....but, I know what I
like...and I absolutely love the music the PBB play. Unless you have
seen it...don't rip it until you have that opportunity...then, come
chat with me. Those who go out of their way to put down the PBB do so
in complete ignorance....but, I'm gonna roll with it...right??? ;)

I'm going to answer that with what's on my work box 'cause that's where
all my most personal stuff is. The most recent thing I listened to was
Gerry and the Pacemakers A and B Sides. Before that was Long Tall
Sally, which I think is the Canadian version of what came out in the US
as the Beatles' Second Album. Before that was an Everly Brothers
collection.

And next will probably be some Burnette Rockabilly Trio.

website...and I also consider myself a friend of Pete's. I see Pete
off the stage, when he isn't performing...and he is always a
gentleman...appreciating his fans and realizing that fame is
fleeting...but true friends last a lifetime...they don't ignore your
value for forty years.

Hi Bob...Yes...our dear Pete is married...he has two daughters and four
grandchildren (he is a very doting grandfather!).
He talks about his wife, Kathy, on the DVD. The website is going to be
revamped....send me any suggestions...we want to make it a place you
want to hang out for a while.
You should hear the band today...just from the addition of two new
members...Paul Parry and Tony Flynn....they couldn't get any tighter!
Both of these guys are awesome musicians and their additional vocals
are amazing.
You are going to enjoy the DVD....I actually watched it again last
night....it is something you can watch over and over again and see
something new every time.

Well, I saw Pete at The Stone Pony in Asbury Park, NJ last year I believe,
and this is what I have to say about it...

The band was tight and sounded great. It was a small crowd (small bar
anyway). But me and my girlfriend were at the front of the stage. It was
just great seeing Pete Best, a former member of The Beatles this close.
Watching him drum, I thought about his life and pictured him being behind
the drums while John George and Paul played together.
And I'm no drummer, but he sounded good to me. And very humble when he
talked on stage.

The band played all those early Hamburg songs, which I love. The lead singer
was just a great performer. He kept singing to my girlfriend, and she loved
it. I wasn't jealous. Man this was rock and roll at it's Best.

Afterwards, we saw some of the band hanging out having a beer while Pete was
signing autographs at a table. No one was was keeping him away from anyone.
He was just hanging out, seemingly enjoying himself.

We talked to 2 of the band guys (I forget who, the guitarist and bassist I
think?), but they were the coolest guys. We just hung out and had a few
beers and talked about Pete and the band and they were the nicest guys you
could ever meet. It even got to the point where I asked them, "Man are we
keeping you from anything?" No, they said, and we took some pictures of us.
They were telling us all about how it was cool traveling around and all.
They were just a great couple of guys.

We also talked to the lead singer. What a great guy he was also. I joked
about him singing to my girlfriend alot. We told him how great he sounded
and he said that when he first joined the band how bad he was.

That douchebag Lennon groupie David Peel was there acting as if he was too
cool.

People were getting Pete's autograph, but there was no one around him acting
like this or that. My girlfriend bought a photo of him pre-leather Beatles
and had it autographed. I took a photo of them. And Pete put his arm around
her and I said, jokingly, "Hey, Pete, that's my girlfriend!" He laughed.

I got a nice photo of me and him. I sat down next to him and asked him, "Man
you must have had a lot of fun in Hamburg." He looked at me and smiled, "Oh
yea."
He put his arm around me and my girlfriend took a photo.

He seemed like a great guy to me.

Maybe 11 years ago it was different. But when I saw them, it was one of the
best rock and roll shows I ever saw.

About 11 years ago, my wife and I saw the Pete Best Band in Montreal. All
the band did was cover tunes and "money". Does he have a son? I ask because
I was told the band was based more around pushing his son's career. They
also were not very good. He played drums on about 2 or 3 songs. His
drumming was basic and minimal. We got his autographed after the show. You
would not believe it. His people acted as if he was still in The Beatles. I
told them that this is the closest I'll ever get to anyone that has been
with Paul McCartney! Of course, they did not see the humor in that. All in
all, he still is a piece of history in my eyes and I am very grateful for
his autograph which I had him sign, "To John and Elaine, All the Best!"

We also talked to the lead singer. What a great guy he was also. I joked
about him singing to my girlfriend alot. We told him how great he sounded
and he said that when he first joined the band how bad he was.
That douchebag Lennon groupie David Peel was there acting as if he was
too cool.
People were getting Pete's autograph, but there was no one around him
acting like this or that. My girlfriend bought a photo of him pre-leather
Beatles and had it autographed. I took a photo of them. And Pete put his
arm around her and I said, jokingly, "Hey, Pete, that's my girlfriend!"
He laughed.
I got a nice photo of me and him. I sat down next to him and asked him,
"Man you must have had a lot of fun in Hamburg." He looked at me and
smiled, "Oh yea."
He put his arm around me and my girlfriend took a photo.
He seemed like a great guy to me.
Maybe 11 years ago it was different. But when I saw them, it was one of
the best rock and roll shows I ever saw.

Good for Pete. Someone said he had a show with 20,000 people in
attendance. Yeah.

He has always gotten good notices when he comes around here (Santa Cruz).
His band seems to put out a good bit of music, and you have a bit of history
there as well.
