When someone replies to me, I save it in a folder in Agent. I was just
looking through the folder for something and noticed I missed a lot of the
"familiar faces" I don't see here anymore.... Scott Aldrich (and his f'ing
trophy:).. Dennis Kennedy (first guy I think of when I ride after
sunset).. Old Hippie... Pony (remember her reply when someone suggested
she help Wes with is "problem"... "be a sport and take one for the
team":), The Witch:), Dave Dude (but Coal Chamber *still* sucks:),
Stewart, Mark Stevens, Murph, Andy, <gasp> Bob:), and the guys with the
cool names: MV Cronk, Volker!, Pekka, Anssi, C3Hammer, Uwe... and of
course, the well thought-out always-helping-you posts of Peter Patton.

I count one we can't get back.. If you know any of these dorks, please
extend an invitation to return.

I'll toss one out there.

One frequent pos(t)er suggested that this RMD thingy is really just an
entertainment arena; a "soap opera".
In the good ol' days, it was good enough to have peole share their
thoughts and feelings about riding, wrenching, recreating, just being
who they are. And it was,and is, excellent entertainment when people
allow you to share their life experiences and thoughts. It allows our
mind to grow beyond our own tiny lives. And it was good. It was a soap
opera indeed.
But not good enough for shit stirrers and knuckleheads.
People who alegedly have redeeming qualities try to *spice up* the
newsgroup by taking unprovoked pot shots at people and making joy of
others' differences.
Some people would just rather not share their lives any more. And who
could blame them? Not me.
That old saying about wrestling a pig goes for spectators too.

As I used to say back when I was married and I heard friends arguing,
"I can get this at home". Who wants to watch a bunch of bickering
idiots?

And I wouldn't blame anyone for bailing out on an election year.

It'd be a lot easier to just go away.

Oh shit, Chris Rock is coming on. Time to LMFAO.

Off topic is cool if it's about beer or chicks. Well, or tools, and
various media. Well, it's cool if *I* like it. Otherwise it's unkewl.
Oh, no, I'm sorry. Ethnocentrism is bad.

It's all good.
Never mind.

On the other hand (I don't use anything but RMD approved acronyms), there's
not much more boring than a bunch of people sitting around, virtually or
otherwise, nodding their heads in agreement, be it politics, religion or the
virtues of the new 300EXC.

It's easy to let things get out of hand when one conversant is in New
England and the other is in the upper midwest or Lewzeriana or NC or
whatever, but I respect everyone here with possibly one glaring exception.

Hey, I might hate your politics (not yours personally, Dean), but I'm sure I
could sit around and talk bikes or music or drugs in the 70s and 80s or even
politics or religion all night with you, providing beer was involved.

Some folks just get their little feelers hurt too easily. And I'm not
referring to you and McG. Some folks just run to other places where the
talk is basically all technical. Good for them. I find the places like
ThumperTalk and DRN pretty humorless. Good sources of info occasionally,
but boring as a baseball rain delay.

I read a couple of other newsgroups and none can compare to the mix RMD
gets. The flamefests on the other ones get just plain nasty and stupid.

I think there *is* something wrong with group hugs, but I'll buy anyone a
beer(s) regardless of what happens in the lottery.

Hey you have been saying that for awhile and I still don't see a free
beer in my hand!!!!!!

I've been around in the newsgroup for years, started in 96. Very few
that were here then are here now. Levy and Tuner are the only ones that come
to mind. Our sport has some turn over is another reason to look at it.

I been around since around then too, only my perspective is a little
different.

the real RMD is gone. Dead. Buried. Seth'ed.

It's prime was around 99/00/01

Think back to the days when McGarry ruled supreme. I'm talkin about real
humor, from guys who knew what that meant. Humor with intelligence, with
twists and turns. Dammed unpredictable twists, and then some. Sometimes
for 200+ entertaining posts in a single thread.

I ain't seen that here for a while now. Have you?

In the land of KTMs
So we rode into the sun,
Till we found a hill of green,
And we lived above the clouds,
with our orange KTMs.

We all ride an orange KTM
An orange KTM
An orange KTM
We all ride an orange KTM

We all ride an orange KTM...an orange KTM...

How timely! I had a turnshitz weekend... nothing went right.

I haven't pinched a tube while mounting tires in a long time. I put 3
freaking holes in the tube while trying to mount a street tire on the
front of my xr100 to road race it. Ran out of patches and couldn't
continue. Gotta be the big fat bead on the street tire and the fact that
the tire is too big for the rim anyway.

That's gotta be it.

I didn't have any trouble at all when I mounted the front knobby last year
or so. This tire is killing me though. I thought/think it is because of
the larger bead and the lack of real estate in the skinny rim. None of the
shops that are open today have 19" tubes in stock and I'm itching to get
it sorted out. The local big dealer is closed on Mondays which bugs the
crap out of me seeing as how they're not a race oriented shop.

I have the exact problem.

I lost three months of krap maintenance after the arrival of the bundle of
screaming joy. Everything died. No oils were changed. I have done nothing
but work on krap every weekend (well... and ride) for two months. I now
only fix things that are broken *and* essential. I don't even have very
much krap but what I do have is old.

imagine how I use'ta do all of this stuff when I had a job and was raising 4
kids....oh yeah, I didn't have all the silly krap then.
I live off the water system, and have to haul water (drilling a well
through 1500 or so feet of basalt where I live would cost far more
than my house). A wheel bearing went south on the water trailer last
Friday night and I spit a wheel off into parts unknown. Ruined the
axle. Don't ask me how I managed to bring 2 tons of water home on
three out of four wheels, plus a broken suspension link, and not
notice anything, but...

So the immediate problem was to get the trailer fixed before we ran
through the 1000 gallons or so of water we had on hand. Luckily my
next door neighbor was able to come up with a "new" trailer axle in
his junk pile of a backyard (I bitch about having to look at it, but
there are advantages.) He finished welding everything up yesterday,
and I got the tank reinstalled last night.

Now I can go back to griping at the wife for all the dirty laundry.

whole post.

Relatively common in this rather local area. I live on a volcanic
plateau, and water where I'm at is pretty far down, through lava
rock. The local Doney Park Water system stops about a half mile from
my house. I could spend about $40k to extend a line out. This would
give me the privilege of paying high rates for a slightly odd tasting
liquid with sometimes surly customer service. So I haul from the City
of Flagstaff for about $2.80 per 550 gallon tank.. I have a lot of
neighbors who live beyond me, and they haul too. Most semi-rural
areas around here have similar water-supply issues, although there are
some isolated perched water tables in Parks. Needless to say, lawns
aren't a real popular item around here.

Plus most of the Native Americans have to haul out to the reservation.

So water is almost free, it's carrying it back to your casa that's
sometimes a problem. A lot of folks just keep water tanks more or less
permanently installed in their pickup beds. This would be convenient -
I could just stop off on the way home every other day or so - but
there would be no room for motorcycles, or other manly crap. Thus I
keep the trailer around.

When my daughter first started to drive, she thought hauling water was
kewl. That lasted for maybe a week.

Yeah, the Long Island Sound is dirty from years of having NYC's
garbage dumped, several major rivers that feed it crud, and a natural
configuration that doesn't change the water with the ocean enough.

Sorry to reply to my own thread, but I dug around and found my real
first post. This was from before I had web access. Local guy provided
free Usenet access from a BBS called Hal's Muffler Palace.

(PS... I never did solve this problem and ended up selling the DR!)

I have a DR350S, and the front seems to wash with little warning. Has
anyone else experienced/cured this on their DR? I replaced the
worthless
stock tires with knobbies, and while improving the grip, the bike
still
displays the same trait... Leaned over, the front will slide with
little
warning. Its pretty scary.
Is it just the weight of the DR? (My other bike is a KDX200)
Will a certain tire minimize the trait?
I prefer a dirt-oriented tire, since the bike is used for about 85%
off road.
Thanks!

FWIW, Jim Cook was telling a story at WUDI about a DR that handled
similarly for him. He said that having the suspension done (Drew Smith at
WER did it IIRC) made it a whole new bike that handled properly.

My XR650L does this... it's annoying, but I don't typically ride it hard
enough for it to be a real issue.

It's easy to let things get out of hand when one conversant is in New
England and the other is in the upper midwest or Lewzeriana or NC or
whatever,
Well, this is the beauty of unmoderated speech. And it's not up to
somebody else here to let or not let something get out of control.
Nobody has a shiny Moderator badge. Most everybody from everywhere
seems to know their own way to be decent people. Cheese is no excuse
for fart stains.
I hate to see fart stains drive anyone away. Is there anything wrong with
fart stains?

Hey, I might hate your politics (not yours personally, Dean), but I'm sure I
could sit around and talk bikes or music or drugs in the 70s and 80s or even
politics or religion all night with you, providing beer was involved.
Beer is proof that God loves us.
I have that t-shirt.

Some folks just get their little feelers hurt too easily.
Unfortunately, that makes them (us) easy targets.

And I'm not
referring to you and McG.
<imagine the scene; a makeshift ring at baumgartner campground, ropes
strung between the pines, sandy ground, cheering drunken spodes, and
there's me and McGarry, wearing No Fear loincloths and each armed with
a sprocket and a chain. I'm cheating, I'm using Deeney's sprocket.>
Getting dangerously close to "there IS something wrong with that".

Some folks just run to other places where the
talk is basically all technical. Good for them.
I skip most of the technical stuff. Then I ask really dumb FAQs.

I find the places like

Thumper the rabbit?
I thought DRN was run by Satan, or some other power freak. Who goes
there?
I always get the info I need here. I'm glad Tuna is back. He was gone
for a while.
Some folks hit all the Web sites. Some folks have way more spare time than
I do. I envy them.

Hey Two Toes?
what do you recommend for a light active monitor for
light dj / public speaking gig's (read fit into a small trunk)
and not throw out my back so i can still go riding...
i was considering Truth B2031A active studio monitors
but haven't given them a listen (no local retail)
Mackie's are $$ as well as JBL's I could go with
some Rodger's studio monitors I have but then I have to
lug an amp along.... and the only one I have is HEAVY.

John,
I have not used small systems very much, I used big concert
style stuff. The one little system I did use once was made by
Fender. It was around 6-8 channels and two speakers with stands.
The speakers attached to the mixer when not in use and was nice
and compact. I do have a nice little board(crest audio, rack mount,
8 stereo and 8 mono channels)
for sale, but it has no power thus you have to carry them heavy amps.
Hope this helps a little.

Still alive, getting some attention due to my tan and sun bleached 'do

Met the Mallards for an awesome pre-Christmas barbie at their place,

I've been thinking about PP since this kicked-up. In his job as a
nurse he usually met and worked with people who were *NOT* having a
Good Day - and maybe never would again.
Somehow he had a compassionate response to it all instead of bitter
resentment.

Lately working on some home-care of a 65-yr old friend who had a
stroke (about 4 ys. ago) and a very recent fall-dow/relapse has made
me very glad for what little I have. But I don't believe health-care
is in my future as a career.

When your left side cant tell how hard it's gripping, or even if it's
gripping, that doesn't work very good for steering a bike or weighting
a peg.
