[HRM Resident]

This is kind of Xmas related, but applies to all winter. Am I the
only person who gets frustrated at people who stand in your doorway on
the way out and talk for 2-3 minutes with the door wide open? My house
is heated by electricity and I go to great lengths to not waste it.

Every second person seems to feel that a long, tearful goodbye
(you'll be seeing them in a week or so again anyhow) wants to stand in
the doorway and tell you one last story about their grandchild or their
silly dog!

My point: Close the door and stay inside until you wind down, or
if you are too hot with your coat and boots on, tell me. I'll get
dressed in my winter clothes and we can stand on the doorstep in the
cold and talk. I really don't see the point of holding someone else's
door wide open when it's -10 C to -20 C.

Maybe it's a 21st century thing . . . :-)

Well, I suppose I could have solved the problem by saying something
polite like "We were without power for 22 hours, and we just got it
back. Can you please close the door because it's 15 C in here and -8 C
outside." I didn't because I was talking to a middle aged person who
apparently has no common sense. :-)

Instead I smiled like I always do and whined on here! And I found
sympathy just where I expected . . . in the dictionary between shit and
syphilis! :-)

Good luck with the plastic bags . . . we all have our philosophical
cross to bear . . . with apologies to the atheists who probably don't
like that expression! :-)

Hey I'm in town but I had a power outage too - just not quite as long
as you. Fortunately my daughter cooked at midday then by the time I
got back here was just in time to grab the balcony screen before it
sailed away and then bang, no power. I decided to call it quits,
went to bed with a glass of wine, a book and an LED lamp. Went to
sleep and have no idea what time the power came back.

Agreed. She came across as a Mother Teresa clone until she got in

stuck on the bottom of my shoe than I do for the fool in Washington, I
don't even think of anyone trying to do violent harm to him.

They have article 25, which allows them to remove a crazy person
from office. He is, in my opinion, crazy. If that fails, they have
impeachment if they can find evidence of criminal wrongdoing and enough
in the house and senate with the guts to do the right thing. Third,
they have 2018 to dog lock congress with Democrats so he can't do
anything. Finally they have 2020. I'm reading JFK's great nephew is a
millennial with the money and ambition to beat him soundly in an
election. Been showing up at too many fundrasers and rallies to not be
serious. Even Joe Biden is polling 2:1 better than the sitting fool,
and there's some speculation he might make a run at it in 2020 for the
Democrats.

Don't fear the fool. He's all bluster and talk. What has he done
to or about "Rocket Man" except play with his phone at 4 AM? Yes, he
could order a nuclear launch, but he's not going to . . . because he's
all talk. And, to quote our dear old friend Rick Walker, "That's just
fine with me." :-)

I suppose being "like a smart person" might mean you are smart . .
. or it might mean you talk like a 13-year old girl who wears pyjama
bottoms to school. Hard to tell the difference.

I never thought I'd long for the days of the "I'm the decider" GWB,

Hmmmm . . . I just crawled up a 48-foot steel tower and fixed a
weather station sensor array . . . F***, it's cold! Cold steel is, well
. . . damn cold.

It was the only window in the weather I could see in the next week.
-7 C with light wind is better than minus double digits and strong
winds. With the latter, you just don't do it. Makes me appreciate
those linesmen who are up in bucket trucks fixing things in storms, etc.

It was askew since that blast of 82 kph took everything out on Xmas
day at 3:29 PM! Now Earth is rotating in he right direction again and
I'm thawing out.
