Awwwwwfully quiet round ‘ere today innit?

We have been to a bbq and produce show this afternoon; didn’t see any of
Jill’s flapjack or Bert’s onions amongst the exhibits, we entered some
beetroot, cherry tomatoes and some courgettes - none of which were picked
up by Lynda Snell or Tom, nor even Kneel. We did enjoy ourselves, we took
salad and a pasta dish plus hot dog rolls plus sauces and cooked some
sausages over the barbie for anyone to enjoy - we did.

Sounds like fun. We went to the garden centre and bought a plant as a
gift and three Elly Griffiths books I hadn't read, for a fiver. Then we
went to Sainsburys and bought two saucepans which were on sale cheaply
and some sushi for Husband's lunch.I have been sitting in the garden
reading and watching the beastly pigeons mating on the fence. Husband
brought me a rather large Pimms. I am now ready for a snooze.

I love Elly Griffiths books and she is really nice. She is on fb and I
messaged to ask something and she replied a couple of times very
politely. Unlike the author of the Liaden Universe books, US person,
the husband of the couple who write them, who was quite rude. And they
keep re-publishing bits of books as standalones under different titles
which confuses and you go to buy them or do and have read them.

I haven't been 'out' for ages so went to day 1 of our local food and drink
festival. Dutifully avoided temptation from all the wonderful sweet things
on offer (apart from a tiny sample of some chocolate and Baileys
confection). Avoided the temptation of sampling (or buying) any of the
alcohol and other drinks (apart from a thimbleful of elderflower cordial).

Admired the bicycle-powered blender at the smoothie stall. Chatted with the
guy who rides a bicycle skip around the place collecting rubbish. Chatted
with the paddle club blokes (canoes, kayaks and paddle boards - no
pedal-powered varieties) and one or two other folk I knew.

Picked up various leaflets from other community projects then realised I
hadn't had any lunch. Nothing I'd seen on the producer's stalls had made my
mouth water so I opted for shredded pork and chips. Huge portion, couldn't
finish it so that's in the fridge for... well I was going to eat it this
evening but I'm not hungry yet so maybe tomorrow.

Saturday was consumed travelling to Crystal Palace to observe a deserved
and welcome victory whilst using a route which avoided SWR which was
beset by a strike due to management's inability to manage and agree to
retaining a second man on all trains like what they have in Scotland and
Wales (where there are an awful lot less people on each train).

Sunday was similarly constrained as we were travelling to County Hall at
Waterloo to see what Kenton does when not manning the Bull bar. Witness
for the Prosecution is a well told Agatha Christie play and I recommend
it to all if you have not already seen it. We managed to avoid SWR by
using the car - which was pleasant as we could drive with the top off.

bridge over the river Ichen which confounded the BBC Cricket
Correspondent on the first day of the Test.

The bridge has a variable toll - not only for the size of the vehicle[1]
- but also the time of day.

Please have the correct money - cards not accepted.

first axle. (!?!)

I read that the tolls are needed "in order to regulate the traffic".
Well of course! That should have been perfectly obvious without any
explanation.
