The widow of Kobe Bryant is suing LA County for emotional distress, as
she's claiming injury because someone on the scene of the helicopter
crash, probably a county first responder, took photographs and then sold
them to a gossip rag.

The county is fighting back, demanding that she prove her psychological
harm.

Well, duh...

"I've suffered millions of dollars of psychological harm. Just take my
word for it," isn't how proving damages works.

I'm glad they're fighting it since I thought they'd just settle.

They probably will settle. This is just part of the process of setting
the price point at which they'll settle. After all, the degree of her
mental distress is only the issue if they can't disavow liability in the
first place.

Stop dancing around the issue, Johnston. If you have an opinion,
share it. Explain how the county has any liability at all. After all,
photographic evidence at a crash site is public, not private. If the
newspaper filed a freedom of information request to obtain the photographs,
they could have been published anyway.

I already shared it. If they are wanting an evaluation of whether or
not she is "psychologically damaged" then that suggests they want to
settle for as little as possible rather than try to establish they have
no liability in the first place. If it was that clear cut that they
didn't, they wouldn't both.

They may be challenging it on multiple fronts. That doesn't mean they
aren't attempting to deny liability.

Agreed - it's not as if the officers that went to give her the sad
news needed her help to identify him and his daughter. I'd be amazed
if one of the first officers to arrive at the crash site didn't say
something along the lines of "Holy sh**! That's Kobe Bryant!" though
his daughter who was with him at the time of the crash would
undoubtedly be less familiar.

Kobe Bryant died with a net worth of $600M. How much does this shiftless slag need?

You sound just as misogynistic as Anim8r. You two would make a cute couple.

I wouldn't want to contribute to America's ridiculous lawsuit lunacy.
