Chitty Chitty Bang Bang had several connections to the Bond franchise.
It's first and foremost, based on a book by Ian Fleming. It was
produced by Albert "Cubby" Broccoli, and featured Gert Fröbe (Auric
Goldfinger) and Desmond Llewelyn (Q) in supporting roles. Roald Dahl,
who worked on the screenplay for You Only Live Twice and longtime Bond
screenwriter Richard Maibaum worked on the screenplay for Chitty
Chitty Bang Bang.

I guess Roger Moore's Bond would've been the most suitable for this
type of movie. I could've easily seen him dressing up marionette doll
like Dick Van Dyke considering he dressed up like a clown in
Octopussy.

I don't recall any Bond movie depicting events that weren't actually
happening as in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
I don't know how anyone can stand that movie.
