I joined alt.obituaries in 1997, and Michael was either already posting
here or came in soon after. Back then, he signed his posts "Michael
OConnor Renaissance Man." He posted mostly about people in sports and
entertainment. I found his posts to be informative and thought-out; I
enjoyed his participation here. He was politically conservative, but did
not post about politics much. To my recollection, he stayed out of the
many political and personal flamewars in this group.

His last post here was on 23 December. He and I never e-mailed each other
before, but I e-mailed a couple of days ago to check on him. I received a
reply from his sister saying that he died very suddenly on the 26th.

Do you have further details? A link to an obit? He followed me on twitter the past few years under “Michael O’Connor” and I can’t find his account now. He was always very interesting and kind. RIP.

July 22, 1950 - March 14, 2020

Michael (Mike) Patrick O'Connor, of Fisher Road, Meadville, formerly of Venango, died on Saturday, March 14, 2020 after failing health of several years.
He was born in Meadville, a son of Richard and Eloise Fleek O'Connor on July 22, 1950.
Mike graduated from Cambridge Springs Joint High School and began working for Charles Stiles and Associates as a surveyor for many years. He worked for Cabot Oil and in later years for Mercer Spring in Townville, Pa.

Mike raised goats and rabbits for many years for the enjoyment of his friends and grandchildren.
He is survived by his former wife, Marlene Shearer Diesing, mother to his daughter Tiffany O'Connor Triana (Shawn) of Gold Canyon, Arizona, former wife Diane Reed O'Connor Smith, mother of Michael Patrick O'Connor II (Jessica) of Venango, stepdaughter Kristy Allen of Saegertown. Also surviving are his grandchildren Donovan and Maya Triana, stepgrandchildren Rory, Rachael, Renee and Ryan Allen and step grandchildren Nick & Olivia O'Connor. Also survived by niece Kelli (Dan) Lyons and nephew Connor Anerson.
In addition to his parents, Michael was preceded in death by his wife Bette Allen O'Connor and stepson John Allen and niece Traci McCabe.
Michael Patrick O'Connor was very proud of his Irish heritage and would be pleased to know that the private burial will take place at the Venango Cemetery on St. Patrick's Day, March 17th, 2020. Per his wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service at this time. There will be a graveside memorial service held this summer.
Arrangements are under the direction of STEPHEN P. MIZNER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 404 CHESTNUT ST., MEADVILLE.

Our Michael's middle initial was P. My wild guess, based on the topics
he wrote about, is that he was born around 1960. After his sister
informed me that he died, I e-mailed back with a condolence note. If
she replies and shares anything else with me that isn't private, I'll
post it.

Hello. I am Michael's sister and just to clear it up we did not post an obituary. Mike died of a heart attack on Dec 26, 2019. Thank you all for your kind words about him. We are all still trying to pick up the pieces of losing someone so special. Michelle

I have known a Michael O'Connor born circa 1963,
the one in that obituary was born in 1950,
how old was the alt.obituaries regular?

Here's some info Michael's sister sent me, slightly abridged:

Mike was a football enthusiast. He was also in a group called PFRA.
Professional Football Researchers Association. He was actually helping the
NFL fact check all their databases. He wrote several books on History of
Football too. He was a very kind person who enjoyed interacting and
helping others. Mike was never married and had no children. But he had 3
brothers and 2 sisters that loved him so much. He was 54 years old, lived
in Greenville SC and he had a heart attack on December 26th.
