I’m sorry, MOPsMOBs, but I must resign as BTM. I’m afraid my situation
here is extremely difficult, I’m not really managing to keep up with
umra (even without the Great Laptop Catastrophe) and, frankly, my heart
just isn’t in it at the moment. This is not to do with umra itself,
it’s just how things are here. (i.e. It’s not you, it’s me.)

I have thought about how to ensure a peaceful transfer of power and have
discussed the matter with a couple of umrats, including Brritski. He is
willing to take on the role and I think he’d be an excellent BTM.
Obviously, the choice of BTM is a collective decision for umra, but
personally I should like to suggest that Brritski be the new BTM,
starting immediately.

Over to you, umrats. I am genuinely sorry not to be able to carry on,
but there it is.

I'm sorry to see you step down MOPMOB but if you have had one failing
as BTM, I would say it has been rowing back on your own superbly
crafted bad taste, and then refusing otherats nominations for your
own, excellent posts when you haven't rowed back quite far enough.
(That's two failings, Ed.)
Thank you for helping to score a clear line between MV and BT. Thank
you for not just being firm and fair but firm, fair and fun in your
judgments. Thank you for.. ...well, just THANK YOU!

Brritski, if you need the proposal seconding, consider it seconded,
thirded or whatevered, depending on how late this post of mine
arrives.

And take care, Sid. Of you and yours. And don't wander too far or for
too long at a time, eh?

accused of bad taste - oh no, of course not!

Sid, I am sorry to hear your circumcisions are such that you need to stand
down, and Britters will need big feet to fill your shoes. I realise that
your time and energies need to be prioritised and that UMRA needs to move
further towards the back of the coach; nevertheless I hope you will
continue to throw your empty drinks cans up the bus and that you may find
the time and energy to uphold the standards of bad taste as in days of old;
I have felt that you have been holding a cloth over your bad taste lantern
during your tenure - go on, let it rip (err... as it were) and show us what
true BT rather than MV really is!

Seriously though Sid, I hope that things improve for you soon, I know you

- they help to make UMRA what it is,

Ladies and gentlemen, umratic friends (not much overlap in that Venn
diagram). It gives me great pleasure, and has done for almost 60 years,
to accept this pristeg^W pistreg^W prestigu^W important role and keep
the fine traditions of umra going (and the not so fine).

I would like to thank you all (?) for your endorsement of this
Johnsonian [1] stitch-u^W appointment, but unlike Charles Moore and Paul
Dacre I will not be making radical changes. Despite my -ski suffix,
there will be no Russian influence or corruption, although if you'd like
to pack up some t-roubles in my old kit bag they will be welcome.

There will be no fraudulent postal voting, indeed there will be no
voting at all ! BTMski's decision will be final. And, unlike with
previous BTMs, often wrong ! Appeal to Lady Hale or the ECoJ if you
want, they will all be ignored.

Decisions about this year's BT Awards Ceremony will be announced at a
future date, but I am sorry to say that the Shrine of S. Pecsavers in
Durham is already fully booked which I'm sure is a disappointment to you
all. I hope to be skiing with the family over New Year though, so
perhaps we'll have a devolved ceremony in the Yeti bar in Pila (snow).
Please let me have any other suggestions for me to ignore.

In closing and in all seriousness, I'd like to echo all the comments
about Sid. He and his predecessors have set a very high standard that it
will be hard to meet. I hope the problems he is facing at the moment
improve soon and he can contribute to umra more fully again. It's not
the same place without him or his BT or fine MV.

[1] Sorry Sid ;)

but there it is.
Hurrah!

I’m sorry, MOPsMOBs, but I must resign as BTM.  I’m afraid my
situation here is extremely difficult, I’m not really managing to keep
up with umra (even without the Great Laptop Catastrophe) and, frankly,
my heart just isn’t in it at the moment.  This is not to do with umra
itself, it’s just how things are here.  (i.e. It’s not you, it’s me.)
I have thought about how to ensure a peaceful transfer of power and
have discussed the matter with a couple of umrats, including
Brritski.  He is willing to take on the role and I think he’d be an
excellent BTM. Obviously, the choice of BTM is a collective decision
for umra, but personally I should like to suggest that Brritski be the
new BTM, starting immediately.
Over to you, umrats.  I am genuinely sorry not to be able to carry on,
but there it is.

[thinks] Hmmm, I wonder if the bribery tariff will go up or if Britters
will keep it at the negotiated rate I had with Sid?!

I'm sorry, but did you not mention upholding the traditions of umra? How
then can you possibly claim there will be "no corruption"?

I thought that was a jolly vigorous round of applause myself. Probably
only silent if you've got a burst eardrum.

May I be the first to write BTN on a large piece of paper and show it to
Britters?

And not the last to congratulate him on his well-deserved assumption of
the Mantle.

And certainly not the last to send much love and sympathies to Sid, who
is a shining light of umra and one of the reasons I still look in here
as often as possible in spite of too much going on elsewhere.

No sorry. Amusing, but not sufficiently BT even for me, in my condition :)

Are they still purchasable?

If I wanted to heat a greenhouse would the CO_2 produced by a Tilley
lamp be a good thing or a bad thing?

I think that would depend on whether you ran it during the hours of
daylight or during the night.
