Props to Rob Schuh/Hard Bop drums

I just wanted to put in a plug for Rob and his drums. I recently bought
Rob's first stave set from him - walnut with a maple stripe, 8x12, 12x14,
13x16. I also bought a new 6.5x14 cherry stave snare. The drums are
everything Rob claims them to be - very full, warm, and round sounding. Each
time I play them I enjoy them more. My Gretsch are sounding a bit
cardboard-y in comparison.
And at least as important, Rob has been a stand-up guy to deal with. As is
not uncommon, there have been a few small things in the transaction that
needed attention. Rob has addressed each of them, and at his own expense.
I recommend Rob and the stave shell drums to any and all.

I'll ditto that too. I bought a Walnut stave drum of Rob's from Nick a while
back. I liked the drum but it didn't blow me away. I mentioned the drum to
Rob when we were talking about something else unrelated, and he offered to
take the drum back to put on new edges, snare beds and finish.

I sent him the drum and he unfortunately left it on his car and drove away,
splitting the shell into chunks. To replace it, Rob offered me my choice of
essentially whatever I wanted. He had a gorgeous 12" Mahogany shell with
some wild deep figuring and coloring, so we went with that. I was looking
for a 12" drum I could actually use as a main drum, not just for the coffee
can effect, so I thought Mahogany's warmer, darker sound (as well as the
depth) would help me in getting some fatness out of a 12" shell.

The drum arrived complete with die cast and triple flanged batter hoops as
well as an extra batter head -- no charge. So far I've only played the drum
at low volumes, but I'm really impressed with everything I've heard. I'm
looking forward to putting this drum through a proper test drive, but I have
no hesitation in recommending Rob as a businessperson.

Rob's drums are less expensive than the competition, offering the customer
essentially any option on the market. I think his stuff is priced comparably
with DIY project drums, particularly considering that having somebody else
do the building takes the screw-up factor out of the equation -- I don't
build drums because other people do it better than I.

Yes, he's obnoxious, rude and offensive on Usenet. But he also makes a
beautiful, well-crafted instrument and he's willing to go far beyond the
"extra mile" to make the customer happy.

Harrumph!

Everything I've heard about Rob leads me to believe that he is
veracious and punctilious with a trenchant and waggish nature.
Furthermore, he seems to be very prescient with regards to drum making
and his efforts appear to be paradigmatic to some people.
