[1] When first discovered the charm-anticharm particle was called J by
one of the teams that found it and Psi by the other, They settled on
combining the names as J/Psi. I remember attending a seminar about the
discovery as an undergraduate.
We must be pretty close contemporaries; that would have been a year or
so after I attended Brian Josephson's lecture, in my first year as an
undergraduate, on the work that had just won him the Nobel Prize. (I
understood some of the first ten minutes or so.)
