Crossing Fences Paperback October 27, 2019
by M.D. Barfield (Author)

"All his life Billy has been groomed to follow his father's family tradition of joining the prestigious Atlanta law firm established by his grandfather. This is not the life he wants, but he has never been strong enough to defy family tradition. Now he is caught between two worlds, the moneyed world of Atlanta and the 'New South,' and the more traditional world of Savannah and the Low Country. As we move through the story, we meet Molly, a teenage temptress. Cindy, who has been emotionally and sexually abused. Cap Green, Billy's maternal grandfather who is a section foreman on the Atlantic Coast Line railroad. His grandmother, who is wise in the ways of herbal healing. Aaron, Billy's best friend from childhood who has just been accepted to medical school and proves in a red neck bar fight that no one calls him a dirty Jew. Sam Crammer, Molly's father who has always adored his daughter and swears the one who has "put the devil in her." Mary Agnes, Molly's mother, who sends the devil straight to hell with a double- barreled shotgun. Johnny Raintree, who makes whiskey, and lives with an everchanging parade of young girls he calls cousins. Linda, the Atlanta girl from the 'right' family Billy is expected to marry. Philip, who if ever a man needed killing, he does. The culture, mores, and ethics of the "new south" contrasted to those of Savannah and the Low Country, a touch of voodoo, and a little of the Gullah culture..."

Who is "we?"
Post by Z***@none.i2p
we meet Molly, a teenage temptress.
Based on Sarah Dockery?
Post by Z***@none.i2p
Cindy, who has been emotionally and sexually abused.
Obviously based on Vinyl Cunt. Dan Barfly must have been buying and cutting a lot of vinyl.
Post by Z***@none.i2p
Cap Green, Billy's maternal grandfather who is a section foreman on the Atlantic Coast Line railroad.
Who works on the railroad in 2019?
Post by Z***@none.i2p
His grandmother, who is wise in the ways of herbal healing.
That's Mildred, who uses herbs as an aphrodisiac to trap unsuspecting railroad workers.
Post by Z***@none.i2p
Aaron, Billy's best friend from childhood who has just been accepted to medical school and proves in a red neck bar fight that no one calls him a dirty Jew.
Must be Pickles, but they changed the description from "dirty Fake Jew."
Post by Z***@none.i2p
Sam Crammer, Molly's father who has always adored his daughter and swears the one who has "put the devil in her."
This is Dunce. See his poem about his daughter for all the info you need.

Mary Agnes, Molly's mother, who sends the devil straight to hell with a double- barreled shotgun.
Ellen Horny got her gun.
Post by Z***@none.i2p
Johnny Raintree, who makes whiskey, and lives with an everchanging parade of young girls he calls cousins.
This is George Sulzbach, who actually pisses whiskey, and the girls are really young.
Post by Z***@none.i2p
Linda, the Atlanta girl from the 'right' family Billy is expected to marry.
This is Nelly, who got the hell out of Columbus to become a star in Atlanta.
Post by Z***@none.i2p
Philip, who if ever a man needed killing, he does.
This could be any Dockery. Fire at will.

They have ethics? Along with the Gullah, why not throw in Bob Dylan and "Nashville?" The writer (we assume is Barfly) already used "new south" at the beginning of the blurb, along with "low country." Writers use lots of different words.

We looked at the preview pages, which reinforced the view that this is a badly written and plotted book.

From pissbum’s recollections here about his high school mentor, he did like them young.
I specifically remember a poem/recollection of pissbum’s that discusses an ‘underage’ girlfriend of DB’s in St. Augustine.
And why have we not been bombarded with DB’s literary endeavors of recent?!!

Got a poor man's "Baby Doll" vibe to it.
http://youtu.be/y5EXUkcLejY
Karl Malden would have been a good actor to portray Dan Barfield actually.........
Malden did have w wonderful career, "Baby Doll" to "Tuco' and all in between and after...in my opinion.
Streetcar Named Desire" in which he falls prey to yet another Southern Belle femme fatale.
In Brando's shadow but sure held his own.
The cast was a good ensemble, I thought.
Oscar Nominations: Actor (Marlon Brando), Sound Recording, Music (Music Score of a Dramatic or Comedy Picture), Directing, Best Motion Picture, Writing (Screenplay), Art Direction (Black-and-White - won), Cinematography (Black-and-White), Actress (Vivien Leigh - won), Costume Design (Black-and-White), Actress in a Supporting Role (Kim Hunter - won), Actor in a Supporting Role (Karl Malden - won)
Dan Barfly literary awards: 0
Dan Barfly book sales: 0
Dan Barfly art sales: 0

Also, there is a big old typo on the first page of the book. Will Dockery school of typing.

We saw other things, but we charge for proof reading. Barfly needed a good editor, not a self-dunce. Perhaps Barfly should have made sure that the copy was correct before self-publishing it?

Here you go:
-----

She Said

She said she loved me,
she always said she loved me
as she borrowed food or money
never returned,
or tokens, so her live-in man
could go to buy her crack,
taking her phone
while she talked to him on mine.

I reminded her of her father,
she said, her father
who would give her whatever
the little girl desired
all of her young life,
provided only
that she always said,
"I love you, Daddy."

Nope. It was from one of pissbum’s many ramblings. (it might have been a ‘poem’). And I could be mistaken about the city. It might have been Atlanta or Columbus. The fact the he’s shared so much of his and others personal lives and details here, it makes it kinda hard to keep up with all of them.

Nope. It was from one of
many ramblings. (it might have been a ‘poem’).
Well, let's see it and we can find out what you mean.
I'll say for now, honestly, you seem confused.
No, I wasn’t confused since one of your post about Dan Barfield has been reposted.
Now, don’t you owe ME an apology?

an 'underage' girlfriend of DB's in St. Augustine.
This was a tall tale from a troll probably.......
I was around back then and from what I saw it necer happened.........
Why should you expect to have seen it, Stink?

Did Barfly usually conduct his kiddie-diddling in front of you?

Will wrote that she was "underage."

How old was Will when he was living with Tina, Star & Elise, Wispy & Coralizard, several cats, a shaggy poodle, a couple of ferrets, a goldfish, and a turtle?

And is this the same Tina who Will was fucking in one bedroom while his wife and son covered their ears in the adjoining one?

I don't see anything humorous (or sarcastic) about saying that one's former high school teacher had an "underage runaway girlfriend."

She Said
She said she loved me,
she always said she loved me
as she borrowed food or money
never returned,
or tokens, so her live-in man
could go to buy her crack,
taking her phone
while she talked to him on mine.
I reminded her of her father,
she said, her father
who would give her whatever
the little girl desired
all of her young life,
provided only
that she always said,
"I love you, Daddy."
One of my favorite George Dance poems, by the way.

1) Tina was young but over the age of consent.

2) Ahmos Zu-Bolton was resident poet at Carver High School in Spring of 1976.

Yes, Barfield can expound on either of these two topics better than I.

Why are you afraid to tell us what year it was?

Clay Dockery was born on November 27, 1978. Was Will living with Tina, Star & Elise, Wispy & Coralizard, several cats, a shaggy poodle, a couple of ferrets, a goldfish, and a turtle after Clay was born?

That doesn't seem very likely.

I think it's safe to conclude that Will was living with Tina, Star & Elise, Wispy & Coralizard, several cats, a shaggy poodle, a couple of ferrets, a goldfish, and a turtle at some point *before* 11/27/1978. [Note that there's no mention of Kathy or Clay as being among his roommates.]

Which means that if Barfield's "underage runaway girlfriend" was Tina Infantino, then she was 17 or younger at the time.

Face it, Stink. Barfield's been caught.

Something else that smells (besides Stinky) is that Dan Barfly was so cozy with Will when Will was a student (11th grade).

Barfly went on to another underage girl and Will got his castoffs.

Even Will at 20 to Tina's 17 would have been against the law. Barfly at 33 crossing the state border with a 17 year old Tina--prison time.

He's probably been caught many times and fired from many schools. How old is "Rowena" in this photo?
