Morning Of My Life

Walking down my street
she shakes her head
in the summer heat
we met back at
Richards Junior High.
Talking to the Grass-man
all about the Taxman
I never wanted to
have to say goodbye.

She walked right in
into the morning of my life.

All around the curfew
barefoot in the wet dew
we chased a dream
we could never realize.
Talking about Black Betty
I felt like J. Paul Getty
I never knew a kiss
could get me this high.

She walked right past
through the morning of my life.

When she sang that song to me
her secret longing to be free
on the corner
in soft summer rain.
Bought America in a jar
filled with samples from afar
I felt her vibe shake me
like a steam train.

She walked right through
deep in the morning of my life.

She shook me
she really woke me up.
Perfect sky
and her big blue eyes.
She smiled my blues away
pretty baby I wish
you could have stayed.

Then she kind of moved away
life called
and we could not stay.
Sweet little lady
I think you've seen that movie too.
Saying goodbye to a friend
you never think it is the end
I never thought
you were gone to stay.

She walked right out
out of the morning of my life.

Fine lyrics Will. It's hard to say something new in a love song, but you have, and you've expressed it well.

I will add that this is a rough draft, and I am working onnthe usic track more now, with the lyrics finished as-is.

Robert Wright is in the studio tonight laying down bass tracks.

Hi Will!
Glad to read your new poem.
"And to all my friends, who been the best to me. Soon will come the day when I'll repay you handsomely. Broken hearts are hard to mend... you know I've had my share. Ah, but life just carries on... even when I'm not there." -Mick Jones (The Clash)

That says it all, just about. Out with the back stabber, the control freak, the one who would rather see me paralyzed. In with the positive, creative comrades (top shelf among them Brian Mallard, Jack Snipe, Deby Love-Payne & Robert Wright) who have stood by me even when I did make a mistake. I'm almost human, after all. The certain folk singer called me a snake, then so be it. But remember since you labelled me... "Don't Tread On Me". Now... could someone help me get this pin knife out of my back? :D

So, today, we put the old tunes & baggage aside and focus on the future, and brand new songs, such as this one I wrote with Brian Mallard a few days ago. Check out the free download of the day "Morning Of My Life" by Will Dockery

off off by several levels of magnitude.

little willie douchebag complaining someone stabbed him in the back? Ask
your abandoned kids about that. Sounds like they didn't even get a chance
to turn their backs.

You missed the previous paragraph, liar. In case you missed it, and kooks
like you always do, you just trashed a guy who wasn't here to defend
himself.

Since you're a notorious deadbeat, I'm guessing he asked for money you
owed him. So how much was it, Dreckster?

So, while we wait for Drive-By to post, what did you think of this one, Rachel?

And, sadly, more bad news from George Sulzbach...

Hang in there, the other shoe dropped for George yesterday... the landlord cut his electricity off, and he lost his job... zero income, it is going to get pretty rough for him in the coming weeks. He was paid under the table, so no unemployment payments for George.

So everyone, send some positive vibes by George's way...

Shoes do drop from
Time to time,
Becoming heavy from
The sands.
Hang on tight, or,
Better yet,
Let your
Feet fly.

Sometimes
Instead of
Waiting for
The second shoe
To drop,
On its own,
We realise
We should
Just let
It fly.

True... last night I took George two candles and a bag of ice, and a few beers, and we sat in Brother Dave's car in Alabama darkness, watching the stars, blasting the Rolling Stones on the car CD player. He lost his job of 13 years and it has sent him on a tailspin downward spiral... he has a lot of great art, but the problemwiththeColumbus art market is... it doesn't really exist, more or less.

like a steam train.
She walked right through
deep in the morning of my life.
She shook me
she really woke me up.
Perfect sky
and her big blue eyes.
She smiled my blues away
pretty baby I wish
you could have stayed.
Then she kind of moved away
life called
and we could not stay.
Sweet little lady
I think you've seen that movie too.
Saying goodbye to a friend
you never think it is the end
I never thought
you were gone to stay.
She walked right out
out of the morning of my life.

I'm hearing about 8 to 10 different song references here............should I list?
yes, please!!! '
Give me time to get to it, okay? It's a question of concentrating, with no endorphins, even just taking a shower and walking around the house today to help direct cleaning was EXHAUSTING, and made me sweaty (that's how out of shape i am), so it's really hard to think, to be sharp, and most especially, read.

I'm not kidding, I mostly just sit here in front of the computer...I'm really a fascinating person. (sarcasm)

Actually, when Brent came over, I started blabbing. It was so nice. I love his company. A nice warm gentle human being. (But it's just about mundane things about my life, and he doesn't really care, but I have nothing else to talk about today. When I get going like on climate change, he falls asleep.)

That's what I can't stand about the computer. It's cold. It's ice. It's not quite reality. It's not enough. :-(

Well, thank g-d for Brent.

But I want the whole banana. :-((( (expression)

Mostly, I need someone who can talk back. Contribute like me. Or at least a lot more than what I'm getting.

But Brent is just perfect for me for now. Who else would come over and do this? Somebody "on my level" whatever that means (I think I'm some kind of freak!!!!) wouldn't be interested in doing this, I mean, this is a very special friendship. He's so sweet. (and I am paying him...which is much appreciated.)

But I'm just missing that higher connection....like I had with Marc....I mean, I just know he has so much to offer...(but I hope he can talk back more...when we met, I was dong all the talking, which was fine with me, but when I run out, I need someone who can keep it going, or at least, have ideas for other things to DO), and that I would love, just die, beyond dream come true, to have with Bob.

See, I always thought Bob just sat alone on his couch, depressed, maybe with the TV on.

So I just wanted to go be with him, like that. And love him. Give him my love. Make him happy, with our little life together, in his little house on the side of the road in Malibu. That was my dream.

Who knew?

Well, anyway, enough babbling.

Physical therapy transportation arrangements are moving along. Probably by next week I can start, with my free rides there and back, three times a week. And they have a 90 degree pool, too. I'll wear shorts and a t-shirt. At least I'll start getting some exercise. (thinking of the work getting ready and going and coming back with my walker more than anything! UGH!)

Hello Rachel this is George. How are you?
OH CRAP!!!!!!!!!! HI GEORGE!!!!!!!!

sh*t, i'm sorry, i don't read a lot of Will's posts, tbh....they just don't interest me that much. It's not that I don't like Will, or think it's not quality material. I'm just....not that interested....I'm so sorry (Will).

Anyway, Well, I'm okay. Everything is precarious, always worried about the future, etc....try my best to compartmentalize, and not not have a good time. :-///

Do you have any poems for mee? :-)

Morning Of My Life
Walking down my street
she shakes her head
in the summer heat
we met back at
Richards Junior High.
Talking to the Grass-man
all about the Taxman
I never wanted to
have to say goodbye.
She walked right in
into the morning of my life.
All around the curfew
barefoot in the wet dew
we chased a dream
we could never realize.
Talking about Black Betty
I felt like J. Paul Getty
I never knew a kiss
could get me this high.
She walked right past
through the morning of my life.
When she sang that song to me
her secret longing to be free
on the corner
in soft summer rain.
Bought America in a jar
filled with samples from afar
I felt her vibe shake me
like a steam train.
She walked right through
deep in the morning of my life.
She shook me
she really woke me up.
Perfect sky
and her big blue eyes.
She smiled my blues away
pretty baby I wish
you could have stayed.
Then she kind of moved away
life called
and we could not stay.

I'm reading and responding to your list now... interesting leaps of perception you make, and oddly most of the references you've heard I never, or almost never, would have thought of.

Interesting to say the least, so much so that I am taking each point at a time to discuss, if only slightly.

Meanwhile, are you saying these are the images my poem evokes for you, you're not trying to make a case that my poem is unoriginal or something, right, Jimmy?

Just checking, as that point hasn't been made very clear to me, which it is, a positive response or a negative response?

Not negative at all, Will....you're a music guy and I do believe lyrics you've heard can appear in your writes...not verbatim, but hints...if you could string the songs I listed, into one long listen...your poem would appear music wise...not precise, but message wise it's there..

So negative, no, not at all...your subconscious, at times, dictates your work, I believe..but that's just me looking behind the scenes...what brings words together from the minds of writers...is just a hobby....:-)

Excellent, thanks, Jimmy

And I noticed I just did similarly with Richard's poem, which made me think of the song from the Billy Jack movie, "One Tin Soldier".

My examination of your list will follow soon, glad that it wasn't an indictment on a n alleged lack of originality, and I enjoyed the wide range of feelings and memories an individual poem by me can bring out in another reader, a fascinating exercise, to say the least.

That, it does, yes indeed.

My examination of your examination follows directly, and yes, you nailed exactly were "Taxman" and "Black Betty" came from, although relating to recent events I've had with my friends George Sulzbach and Betty, a sweet young trailer park walker who works on George's block, are in fact direct homage/name-checks for George Harrison and Leadbelly, writers of said songs.

And yes, I am now tempted to line all those songs you evoked (or rather, my poem evokes) and play them in a show sort of like a mini rock opera, crowned at front and back by my own "Morning of my Life"... although vocally I could never do justice to Frankie Valli or even ACDC, it would be an amusing experiment for the band to work up our own takes on these songs.

Thanks again for finding my poem a good enough read to give a good read on it in return, Jimmy.

Ah, I had a long response to your list... thought I had saved it, came back and find that Google Groups has lost it. I had thought it would remain on this window until I came back and finished it... but now, Google refreshed the page in the meantime.

I'll have to re-write it, although I will also rethink my responses in the meantime...

Morning Of My Life
Walking down my street
she shakes her head
in the summer heat
we met back at
Richards Junior High.
Talking to the Grass-man
all about the Taxman
I never wanted to
have to say goodbye.
She walked right in
into the morning of my life.
All around the curfew
barefoot in the wet dew
we chased a dream
we could never realize.
Talking about Black Betty
I felt like J. Paul Getty
I never knew a kiss
could get me this high.
She walked right past
through the morning of my life.
When she sang that song to me
her secret longing to be free
on the corner
in soft summer rain.
Bought America in a jar
filled with samples from afar
I felt her vibe shake me
like a steam train.
She walked right through
deep in the morning of my life.
She shook me
she really woke me up.
Perfect sky
and her big blue eyes.
She smiled my blues away
pretty baby I wish
you could have stayed.
Then she kind of moved away
life called
and we could not stay.
Sweet little lady
I think you've seen that movie too.
Saying goodbye to a friend
you never think it is the end
I never thought
you were gone to stay.
She walked right out
out of the morning of my life.

I'm hearing about 8 to 10 different song references here............should I list?
I'm reading and responding to your list now... interesting leaps of perception you make, and oddly most of the references you've heard I never, or almost never, would have thought of.
Interesting to say the least, so much so that I am taking each point at a time to discuss, if only slightly.
Meanwhile, are you saying these are the images my poem evokes for you, you're not trying to make a case that my poem is unoriginal or something, right, Jimmy?
Just checking, as that point hasn't been made very clear to me, which it is, a positive response or a negative response?
:)
Hope all is well with you, Jimmy... long time no see!
Hey, Jim ... I don't want to say this too loudly, but ... I think ... you know who ... may have left the building.
Scratch that. I spoke too soon. (Just worked my way up to the "Jack Lad" thread.)

Maybe it is too late and a need a coffee, but I'm drawing a blank on Grandma Bert... who is that>

Your grandmother?

Forgive the possibly inane question, but I'm curious.

Saying goodbye to a friend
you never think it is the end
I never thought
you were gone to stay.

I see shades of Grandma Bert... ;-)
:-)
Okay, Rachel, since you seem to have missed this and now that I remember who Grandmother Bertha is, how does it compare, to my poem or Jimmy's critique?
Hey, I am just seeing this (sorry)...
I'm not sure I understand the question. What do you want me to compare with what?
Oh, you wrote "I see shades of Grandma Bert..." and I was trying to ask, in a way, what that really meant...
surely you can figure that out yourself! (i'm sorry will, i just can't keep playing your game, answering your questions that you already know the answers to, etc... i don't see the point. it just hurts my feelings.)
I just didn't see how Grandmother Bertha related at that point, so I asked. I might be able to figure it all out, or decide for myself what it meant, but a simple question seemed easier.

No offense intended, really.

Morning Of My Life
Walking down my street
she shakes her head
in the summer heat
we met back at
Richards Junior High.
Talking to the Grass-man
all about the Taxman
I never wanted to
have to say goodbye.
Summer in the City...Lovin Spoonfull
Taxman...Beatles
Never Can Say Goodbye...Jackson Five
Post by Will Dockery
She walked right in
into the morning of my life.
Walk Right In...Rooftop Singers
Post by Will Dockery
All around the curfew
barefoot in the wet dew
we chased a dream
we could never realize.
Talking about Black Betty
I felt like J. Paul Getty
I never knew a kiss
could get me this high.
All Along The Watchtower...Dylan
Barefootin...Robert Parker
Black Betty....Ram Jam
Post by Will Dockery
She walked right past
through the morning of my life.
When she sang that song to me
her secret longing to be free
on the corner
in soft summer rain.
Bought America in a jar
filled with samples from afar
I felt her vibe shake me
like a steam train.
Summer Rain...Johnny Rivers
Post by Will Dockery
She walked right through
deep in the morning of my life.
She shook me
she really woke me up.
Perfect sky
and her big blue eyes.
She smiled my blues away
pretty baby I wish
you could have stayed.
Shook Me All Night Long....AC/DC
Post by Will Dockery
Then she kind of moved away
life called
and we could not stay.
Sweet little lady
I think you've seen that movie too.

Saying goodbye to a friend
you never think it is the end
I never thought
you were gone to stay.

I was only... being mildly sarcastic... heh heh heh...
"I didn't mean to make you so sad, you just happened to be there, that's all." -Bob Dylan
:)
"i didn't mean to take it so bad, i just happened to see you, that's all" - RBL (sorry will, this has nothing to do with you, i'm bored and stuck in neutral in a parallel universe....and bein' silly!)
Okay, then all is well...

Morning Of My Life
Walking down my street
she shakes her head
in the summer heat
we met back at
Richards Junior High.
Talking to the Grass-man
all about the Taxman
I never wanted to
have to say goodbye.
Summer in the City...Lovin Spoonfull
Taxman...Beatles
Never Can Say Goodbye...Jackson Five

She walked right in
into the morning of my life.
Walk Right In...Rooftop Singers
Post by Will Dockery
All around the curfew
barefoot in the wet dew
we chased a dream
we could never realize.
Talking about Black Betty
I felt like J. Paul Getty
I never knew a kiss
could get me this high.
All Along The Watchtower...Dylan
Barefootin...Robert Parker
Black Betty....Ram Jam
Post by Will Dockery
She walked right past
through the morning of my life.
When she sang that song to me
her secret longing to be free
on the corner
in soft summer rain.
Bought America in a jar
filled with samples from afar
I felt her vibe shake me
like a steam train.
Summer Rain...Johnny Rivers
Post by Will Dockery
She walked right through
deep in the morning of my life.
She shook me
she really woke me up.
Perfect sky
and her big blue eyes.
She smiled my blues away
pretty baby I wish
you could have stayed.
Shook Me All Night Long....AC/DC
Post by Will Dockery
Then she kind of moved away
life called
and we could not stay.

Speaking of definitions, or lack of, I was just now shocked that there seems to be no mentions anywhere on the internet of the Flying Mystery Vision, which up to now I thought was a standard part of Native American legend/myth/path.

I have written on this, the Indian equivalent to the visionary, the artist, the Rimbaudian poet, but it seems my knowledge was passed down word of mouth and not so many others have heard the word.

Anyway, that's what's on my mind this morning.

omg, that will. that was so good. i swear to g-d, at first i was like, a little tiny bit, this is too sappy, then i remembered i wrote that west hollywood fadeaway and things like that, anyway, but by the last few paragraphs, my eyes were all wet from tears.
:)
there.
was that worth the wait? :-D
Yes indeed, thanks, Rachel.

Can you hear the track, as well, or are you reading only? It would be good to know if the thing works well as just words on paper, which you seem to be saying.

Here's the audio track, if you can get it to play...

Morning Of My Life
Walking down my street
she shakes her head
in the summer heat
we met back at
Richards Junior High.
Talking to the Grass-man
all about the Taxman
I never wanted to
have to say goodbye.
She walked right in
into the morning of my life.
All around the curfew
barefoot in the wet dew
we chased a dream
we could never realize.
Talking about Black Betty
I felt like J. Paul Getty
I never knew a kiss
could get me this high.
She walked right past
through the morning of my life.
When she sang that song to me
her secret longing to be free
on the corner
in soft summer rain.
Bought America in a jar
filled with samples from afar
I felt her vibe shake me
like a steam train.
She walked right through
deep in the morning of my life.
She shook me
she really woke me up.
Perfect sky
and her big blue eyes.
She smiled my blues away
pretty baby I wish
you could have stayed.
Then she kind of moved away
life called
and we could not stay.
Sweet little lady
I think you've seen that movie too.
Saying goodbye to a friend
you never think it is the end
I never thought
you were gone to stay.
She walked right out
out of the morning of my life.

i can't. it hurts my ears. tinnitus. i have the kind which no one has ever heard of. the one that really hurt my ears when it happened, like a knife being stabbed in it. (one ear). i ran out practically screaming.

the doctors didn't even believe me. no, it wasn't the movie. (earthquake, blasting louder than i've ever heard in my life)

idiot.

Wow, sorry to read that. I've had some ear problems from childhood, booming earaches but none recently except a deafness slightly frommthe loud cotton mill machines.

Headed downtown now, hopefully George Sulzbach will be there, and he can post that poem he wrote for you...

No, sorry to say that George Sulzbach didn't show up at the Fountain City Coffee event last night, and I did ride out to check on him. Turns out he was sleeping, that yesterday he started walking down the railroad tracks shirtless, in shorts, for whatever reason. The only reason he gave was that he was counting the cross ties and headed over to a dirt road that the railroad tracks lead past, where he remembered a creek with a "swimming hole" caused by a dam that beavers had made a long time ago.

Then he got tired, and crossed back over through a trail to the "main road" and walked back home that way, looking for beer cans on the side of the road he could sell for the aluminum.

By the time he finally had walked back to his trailer he noticed he had a roasted sunburn all across his back. So he said by then the big tree was casting shade so he showered down with cold water from the hose laid back on his outdoor mattress to finish reading the "Dune" novel I had given him.

He seemed in good spirits when I gave him a can of sausages, a box of crackers, and two Bud Ice beers, and left him to enjoy some peace and quiet in the Alabama night.

Perhaps later tonight he'll find some WiFi, to post his musings for us.

:)

filled with samples from afar
I felt her vibe shake me
like a steam train.
She walked right through
deep in the morning of my life.
She shook me
she really woke me up.
Perfect sky
and her big blue eyes.
She smiled my blues away
pretty baby I wish
you could have stayed.
Then she kind of moved away
life called
and we could not stay.
Sweet little lady
I think you've seen that movie too.
Saying goodbye to a friend
you never think it is the end
I never thought
you were gone to stay.
She walked right out
out of the morning of my life.
-Will Dockery
omg, that will. that was so good. i swear to g-d, at first i was like, a little tiny bit, this is too sappy, then i remembered i wrote that west hollywood fadeaway and things like that, anyway, but by the last few paragraphs, my eyes were all wet from tears.
:)
there.
was that worth the wait? :-D
Yes indeed, thanks, Rachel.
Can you hear the track, as well, or are you reading only? It would be good to know if the thing works well as just words on paper, which you seem to be saying.
Here's the audio track, if you can get it to play...

oh okay. yes, now that i've read it, it would be nice (hopefully) to hear it.
too bad that ron roach wouldn't post his songs. :-((
anyway, well, i it seemed so nice on the page, i'm worried that singing about it will spoil it.
we'll see...
i don't know.
well, first of all, i heard the rhyming a lot better.
but the other thing was, it sounded like you were singing a poem...
now i don't know if i am biased cuz i read it on the page first.
don't get me wrong. the music wasn't BAD at all. it just didn't seem to go with this lovely poem.
Thanks for trying it out, Rachel, and for the kind words about my poem.
:)
i tried *everything*....at least once!

or did i? ;-)

nevermind.

Morning Of My Life
Walking down my street
she shakes her head
in the summer heat
we met back at
Richards Junior High.
Talking to the Grass-man
all about the Taxman
I never wanted to
have to say goodbye.
She walked right in
into the morning of my life.
All around the curfew
barefoot in the wet dew
we chased a dream
we could never realize.
Talking about Black Betty
I felt like J. Paul Getty
I never knew a kiss
could get me this high.
She walked right past
through the morning of my life.
When she sang that song to me
her secret longing to be free
on the corner
in soft summer rain.
Bought America in a jar
filled with samples from afar
I felt her vibe shake me
like a steam train.
She walked right through
deep in the morning of my life.
She shook me

Why in the world are you not on Facebook?

There are like 1000 great Bob Dylan groups there alone.

There's even an alt.arts.poetry.comments page there:

Come on in, the water's... so-so.

Oh, it's not deep. I'm saying it's a kind of amusement that doesn't really interest me. I was just picking up on your use of the water metaphor, and running with it....

Exactly, and understood.

One reason Facebook appeals to me is my interest and enjoyment in meeting people, such as my buddy in the Ukraine, Ilya Polishchuk.

Here are some great photos from Ilya detailing everyday life over in the Ukraine.

No kidding, have a look, I doubt you will regret it.
