Allow me to give apprise everyone about what's happening along the Gulf
Coast of Mississippi.

There's a lot of building going on apace with the continuing cleanup:
casinos, home rebuilding, a new pier stretching out over the ocean. But
I've not see any new apartments going up. Which brings me to a growing
problem. Lots of jobs are available; businesses are forced to curtail
operating hours for lack of willing hands--even the two 24-hour Walmart
Supercenters, are closing at 6pm. It's kinda hard to attract labor,
however, if there's no place to live. Providing people a
place to live was the very reason that FEMA bought thousands of mobile
homes, right?

Let me clue everyone in on those FEMA trailers. Scads of folk in the
South have lived their entire lives inside a mobile home--so few people
here snub their noses at any kind of place they can call their own.
Manufactured housing, as the builders grandly refer to their product,
can be beautiful in design and quite sturdy in construction. Any day of
the week, in South Carolina, Arkansas, Louisiana, Texas or Florida, with
as little as $30-$45,000 you can purchase a double-wide, four-bedroom
home with maybe a sunken bathtub and an outside that very closely
resembles whatever your hearts desire--everything from a rustic log
cabin to the mansion of a country squire.

Not so these FEMA trailers: these things are smaller than a breadbox and
uglier too. One tiny window on each side and an even smaller one in
front. Hardly wide enough for two people to pass unless someone opens
the door and steps outside; some have two bedrooms, but most have only
one--oh, and one bathroom. FEMA paid $95,000 apiece for them.

due to a lock, being opened by mistake it
flooded the entire area. water was up to the
roof's of businesses, FEMA delivered them
nearby and people lived in them, I saw what
these looked like 2 bed. bath,kitchen,liv.Rm
I admit they were basic, but roomy enough.

We bought a Fleetwood Park Model it has
2 bedrooms, living, kitchen, bath (complete)
closets, and patio door, it was shaped like
a three window trolly car...and it's 2 roor,
big ref/freezer, a/c, big closets. we bought
that to live in at a camp ground, we have
had it for about l2 years now, still outside.

we bought a Fleetwod mobile home with
almost the same features. except the
3 window trolley car front is not there and
the patio doors aren't...the camper os 38ft
and the mobile home is 45 ft. with a/c

So, I believe anyone can live in them, they
are big enough for a small family.

Joyce, that was not the point of my informative post. People here have
been living in them--and grateful that they could. But about two weeks
ago, FEMA began going door to door, issuing eviction notices. Joyce,
with no other place to go, THEY ARE BEING EVICTED from the FEMA trailers!

One other thing. As an owner of a mobile home, Joyce, in your opinion
are those "basic" FEMA trailers worth the * $95,000 * that the Bush
Administration paid for them??? A niece and her husband bought about a
month ago a double-wide, 4-bedroom; it has a Jacuzzi bathtub, a full
kitchen, two and a half baths, and from the outside it is pretty enough
not to embarrass any neighborhood -- they paid only $46,000 for it,
brand new.

cost...no they weren't worth that much
money, neither was mine. I paid about
$25,000 for mine, got a court settlement
from a car hitting me. so I bought new
had to wait for it to be built..

No, these were a nice looking trailer,
but basic. on the outside, and I did
get to look at an empty one, it looked
roomy enough, not the luxury type.

I seem to have a problem reading small
print. most times I have to print it and
then read it..mine sits in the yard,
we haven't used it much, seems a
waste. but hubby keeps saying he wants
to put a hitch on the back of rig. to
take it on a trip....joyce

Yes I can get the word's small,med. and
larger, but I seem to have problems
with my eyesight....I also read what was
said in the ng..Like everyone here is perfect l00% of the time. And
when we all
get older, we can expect our eyesight to
get worse. even with glasses...

Others here know me since 2000, and I
never use to get the same response as
I do now,,because eveyrone here uses
a pc....well sorry, guy's , my husband
has been in the hosp. twice this year for operations, the rig needed

repairs, and I am paying doctor bills,
so, I even turned down the offer to purchase thru here, a pc, but have

could do it on the web. no such luck,
it's very primitive...but hopefully I have
saved all my pennies and will get a pc,
and then take a year trying to learn it.

Right now my husbands health is more
important to me then a pc or what other's
have to say about me...and I know who
you are. I've read the posts, and don't have to post each one's name do

One thing I will clear up on the previous
post is that the Franklin,Va people were
on a time limit also, but offered the chance to buy the FEMA trailer's,
and they
did have a lime limit. (to me that is not
Eviction). not put out on the ground, or
anything, and some were given some
financial help to purchase the trailers,
that were not $95,000. in I believe
was a year later, only two trailers were
left, I don't know the true cost of the trailers I saw but I would not
pay any more then what I paid for mine, they
must have been worth about $l2,000
to $l5,000..my esimate. And this was
a couple of years ago. I paid for a little
more then that for my 37ft trailer.

have never pulled flatbed. I once drove covered wagon for a few weeks,
but did not care for it. I pulled doubles for almost four years, no
triples as I don't live in a triples state. I pull 53' drybox. General
freight: foodstuffs, paper, steel, paint, computers and even DVDs.

My driving habits: I drive 77 or so in 70 mph states; 70 or so in 60-65
mph zones; and 65 or so in a 55. 45 and slower, I honor because that
usually means a city or a construction zone. My present radio is a
Galaxy 959. I hate echo almost as much as I hate "compassionate
conservatives." The only time I come close to tailgating is when
there's lane restrictions and the fool is running 50 in my only passing
lane. If he can move over, I will encourage him to do so; but if
traffic is heavy and the guy can't go anywhere, unlike far too many
others, I stay well back. I do not run in a pack--of cars or trucks.
In the last 20 years of trucking, I have been involved in exactly one
accident--and it was charged to me. Over the years I have received a
total of four speeding tickets, one for illegal lane usage (in CA) and

Actually, because I have internet access, know how to phrase a search,
and I am persistent, I can generally find useful information about
almost any subject.

What's at least as important, I have the communication skills necessary

My brother in law has had about half a dozen heart surgeries, but none
in the past five years. At sixty-four, he's doing great. Explain to
your mother in law that today's less invasive procedures may add ten
years to her lifespan. She should follow the doctors' advice.

My father in law has been suffering from emphysema for 20+ years. The
lung damage was done when he was a plant manager that handled glues. He
is a tough old bird, but he is just getting beaten down by the fight.
Two days ago he was also diagnosed with Alzheimers. We won't have him
much longer, and, truthfully, I think he's about ready to go.

The angeoplasty was mentioned but the cardic doctor told it would be
dangerous, at her age there would be 50% she would die on the OR table.
We've accepted the fact that we have enjoy her company while we can.
She's 82 and doesn't let much slow her down. The last time she was in the
hospital was when my wife was born.

I know exactly what you mean about the work around the house. I get one
of our sons to come over on the weekends to do the yard work and such. My
Doctor has been talking about more back surgery for me. I told him he
better sneak up on me because if I see him coming I'll shoot him.

The thing I've decided about bills is that they are always going to be
there. It's just matter of who they come from. We don't have any bills
other than utilities and such. I'm trying to drag a few more miles out of
my Buick, maybe replace it next year. I'll write a check for a new car
just because I can. Hasn't always been that way.

Tell your husband that whatever he doesn't get done today will still be
there tomorrow. Even the grass will still be there tomorrow.

This time he is talking about L3-L4. Below that is already fused, after 4

My brother is down and almost out with Muscular Dystrophy. He's been
fighting it for more than
20 years. He did alright till about 3 years ago when the disease
suddenly went wild. Now, he's lost so much weight and strength, his
wife has to--and is able to-- carry him to the toilet.
This disease, too, is said to be hereditary. But the rest of us, so
far, are fine, and I'll be 58 on the 5th.

What browser are you using? You can, I am certain, increase the size of
the font display, and make your mail so much easier to read.
Here's how you do it using Thunderbird Mail. Under the Tools menu,
click on "Options...". Then "display," then click on the tab marked
"fonts." In the box that ask about minimum font size, click on the drop
down box and pick a larger size-- 12 or larger if you're having to strain.
Under the EDIT menu, click on "Preferences..." Then on "Appearance."
Minimum font size: Click on that box and choose 13 or larger.
Under your Windows start menu, click on it, then All Programs, then
Accessories, then Accessability, then Magnify.

You really can't read headers can you? If you could you'd know she
uses webtv. With webtv you can't change anything. Not fonts. Not
anything You can't download an independent newsreader. As a matter of
fact you can't download PERIOD. With webtv WYSIWYG.

In about 30 seconds I found this on the webtv site:

Have you tried the Windows program, "magnify?" Your tv/web browser is
based on Windows, is it not?

I too am down and out with medical problems. First, sinus surgery and 6
weeks out of work to heal that. Then, there'll be ear surgery, to
remove a tumor in the inner ear. That'll keep me off the road for an
additional 8-10 weeks. And after it's all over? I've been deaf in the
right ear for about 25 years, and the surgery may not help that any.

No one that I know of has ever accused Bush of causing anything except
the Iraq War and the 2455 deaths (so far) and the 18,000+ serious
injuries of American soldiers. Because he accepted the office of
president, however, response to and recovery from natural disasters is
indeed his responsibility.

No one is suggesting that it is anyone other than the owner's
responsibility to replace destroyed property. But legislation on the
books as well as common decency does require we Americans to provide a
helping hand to other Americans in trouble. Which is the purpose of all
those FEMA trailers. Which finally brings me back to the subject of my
post and out from under the obscuring smoke you sprayed.

FEMA paid $95,000 for each of those trailers. At least double their
true retail value. They bought 25,000; about 11,000 of which are still
sitting, unused, in Arkansas. Although the rest still are desperately
needed, FEMA has just delivered eviction notices.

You missed the entire point of my quite informative post. In your
eagerness to castigate me, you completely ignored everything except my
rather mild criticism of your president. I'll explain it again.

The Bush Administration-- someone in it, probably not Bush
personally--handed out a no-bid contract to purchase all those trailers.
FEMA did not lease them: they purchased them outright, at double their
true retail value. As wasteful and corrupt as this sweetheart deal was,
this comprises a relatively insignificant part of my post.

Families, entire families, are living in those FEMA trailers. Some of
those families may be taking advantage, making no effort to find other
housing. A large percentage of those families, however, are living
cramped in those undersized, very plain but very expensive FEMA trailers
while their homes are being rebuilt from the inside out.

Where will they go, what will they do with their kids while they try to
rebuild their lives? Night time temperatures are 80-90 with 90%
humidity. Should these good folk move their babies into a tent?
Believe me, There's not enough insect repellent in the entire nation to
keep the mosquitoes and biting gnats from devouring anyone who tries to
sleep outside even in the daytime.

Bush chose to make himself president. Therefore, the burden is his to
provide for the common good.

Tom, seems that you're referring to N.O. area? Different situation
there. Along the MS Gulf Coast, the cleanup--by the locals-- began the
day after the storm hit.

My daughter, who lived close to the storm center, was out of touch with
me. A long story, but they left but didn't get far due to a medical
emergency with one of their kids. Not being able to find out anything,
my wife and I were near panic. On a load from LA to Atl, we said to
hell with it and ran south. Driving through the ravaged land the day
after the strike, I couldn't get very far in: debris was all over the
roads. Two days later, however, Hwy 90 (runs along the beach) was open
from Mobile to the long destroyed bridge that led into Biloxi. The city
streets were damned near spotless. Trees, metal, cement was piled high
along the sides of the streets, but the pavement was clear. The
citizens themselves did that; FEMA was still trying to figure out
whether they could reach MS via Canada.

Today, people are rebuilding, or trying to. The contractors have been
quite busy too, hauling off truckloads of debris. MS is still a
disaster area; there's not nearly enough housing, and FEMA has ordered
eviction from all those $95,000 trailers. But people are busting their
butts, trying to bring the area back.

BTW, my daughter, her husband and their three babies were fine. Their
home survived, the only damage to the roof.

help me with the web. even tho he
doesn't use it, I made a mistake previously in a post, and it was
quickly
brought to my attention and I said I
have problems lately with my eyesight.
and the writings on the ng. glasses
help, but I guess at 7l, I can't be 20=20
all my life. he was gracious enough to
try to help me with the problem, reality
trucker got involved,

I have responded to this mess, and
it will probably show up if not already
but I can change the size of the writing on my messages out.
but not on incoming or the ng. most
times I have to print it to read it. ok
