Bull tonight. Scruff and Shires on the house!

And I certainly found a drink to accompany the pizza.

P.S. Whatever happened to giving someone Birthday Bumps?

In Argentina they pull people's ears. Now that I'm seventy that's
thirty-five a side. Ouch!

I escaped that, but I was forced to 'pose' in a handmade Norwegian
hood/cowl which made me look like an extra in a Bruegel painting.

I think it would be quite a strain on whoever was doing it, to give me
the requisite number of bumps.

Actually, back in the days when it would have been somewhat less of a
strain (what with me having rather less weight and rather fewer
birthdays under my belt), I rarely received them, owing to the fact that
my birthday was always during school holidays.

I must say I find television very educational. The minute somebody turns

No. I wish I had because it turned out I brought my own germs with me. I
had such a sore throat that I couldn’t swallow all the delicious food.
Luckily, chocolate just melts. Still not gone six days on.

Thank you, Vicky, for both wishes. Yes, I think you are the first.

My best wishes for New Year to you, all umrats and those they hold dear.
2020 has a really good sound to it, doesn’t it? Perhaps it will bring the
promise of clear sightedness for politicians and planners?

Despite having trouble swallowing food, I managed to gain 5.5 pounds in
five days. All that easily melted chocolate...

I am now 5lbs up too, in spite of having 2 days off eating too
much.Last night I escaped life for an hour or so into an arm chair
with a Georgette heyer book to re-read (safe and cosy, the reading
equivalent of chocolate) and I had a couple of Cadbury's flakes too,
and other things chocolatey. The thing about good chocolates is you
can't eat as many of them as of flakes! They are too rich for me now,
although delicious, sparingly.

Thank you to all well wishers. I've been busy since then and haven't had
chance to visit umra until now, but I could sense the wishes waiting to
be read.

I did have a good day. My offspring and I went out for a birthday brunch
and in the evening my chap joined us and we went to see the latest Star
Wars film, followed by a takeaway pizza. Very pleasant.

In between these, my builder returned after several weeks' absence and
mended the hole in my kitchen ceiling. It's good to have it done but I
could have done without it being done just then. Apart from anything
else, it meant that I had to spend much of Christmas Eve cleaning the
kitchen.

Builders, IME, have a very vague sense of dates and time in general. We
couldn't move in here until 6 months after I bought the place because the
builder took that long to complete about 4 weeks work. It wasn't ALL his
fault but I rapidly learnt that Tuesday often didn't occur until Friday and
if he decided to tackle something I definitely wanted input on with regards
to style and finish, he did it when I wasn't expecting him so I wasn't here
:(

I'm hoping the chaps who are removing the old boiler and placing the new
one in a different location on 6th/7th have a better understanding of these
things.

It is my experience that the actual duration of the Standard Builder's
Week is variable, but is often approximately equivalent to two normal weeks.

Roughly the same conversion rate applies to the Builder's Pound.

There is also the Builder’s Tooth Gap, through which they whistle before
giving any indication as to the cost of the work....
Then there is Builder’s Bum, but I’m sure someone has cracked that
before...
