Unless you made the mistake, here's two more:

Wasn't That Good - Wynonie Harris

Switchie Itchy Titchie - The Midinighters

"Ooby Dooby" WAS on the February list (as well as the April 7 list). As Roger explained, the 1956

"Honey Hush" made the April 7 list because the Atlantic 2044 appeared in the 1959 Battle, losing

It's not just the lyrics. I don't mind nonsense lyrics per se. In
fact, I especially like the lyrics found only in the Chords version of
"Sh-Boom," "hey la de ding dong, a langala langala langala langala, whoa
whoa whoa bip, a flib a doo ba dip." (Obviously they were too edgy for
the Crew Cuts.)
And as you know, my favorite Mills Brothers record, going way back to
the early 1930s, is "Nagasaki," and it's just chock full of nonsense
lyrics. "Oh Naggie, oh sackie, oh wicky wacky woo." Immortal!

Yes, but it doesn't explain why these 2 items show up on the April 7
version of the Never Won A Battle list but not on the previous
(February) version of that list, which is the one I am working from.
"Ooby Dooby" WAS on the February list (as well as the April 7 list). A
Roger explained, the 1956

James Brown -

matched these 2 songs.
"Honey Hush" made the April 7 list because the Atlantic 2044 appeared in th
1959 Battle, losing
20-6 in Round 1 to Jimmy Reed - Baby What You Want Me To Do.
As far as I can tell, when making the April 7 list I must have included th
label information to
identify a song -- and this prevented the Atlantic 1001 version from 195
from matching the
Atlantic 2044 version from 1959 -- while I must have compared only the artis
and title when making
the February list.
There's no reasonable way for me to prevent the "Ooby Dooby" problem fro
occurring, so it will
have to be caught by people in the newsgroup. I can try to recreate th
April 7 list to prevent
the problem that happened with "Honey Hush."
Thanks for the clarification, Rick.

I just realized I was mistaken when I said that I must have included the label information when
making the April 7 list. Since no song (same artist) should have appeared in 2 different Battles,
I did not try to match songs from one Battle to another. As I said above, "Honey Hush" made the
April 7 list because it appeared in the 1959 Battle and lost in Round 1. That was the sole
criterion for it being eligible for use in the Obscurities Contests.

Maybe the one before Rick corrected things.
The list I am using is from April 7, which I'm assuming was Rick's latest.
Both of those songs were on it.
Could be the 1960 remake of "Honey Hush" and the original Jew-el version of "Ooby Dooby" on Rick's list.
It is the 1959 version of "Honey Hush" that Mark is referring to. The
original was third in its year but the remake won no rounds in the
1959 Battle

Ooby Dooby - Roy Orbison

Honey Hush - Joe Turner
http://youtu.be/c80aiPeykn0
These are not eligible. "Honey Hush" finished third in 1953.
I used the list of eligibles, and these were on it, so I'm confused.
Diane looked and they were not on it. Not sure what list you wer
looking at.

Then I'm out of luck given the rule I seem to recall that different version
by the same artist aren't eligible.

I doubt the "Honey Hush" 1959 remake would get that far since its
quite inferior to the classic original

(Despite the LP picture the YT poster uses the track isn't on that
album)

Rats! I would have used this but apparently missed it because it was not in my February list of
eligible Battle songs but was in my April list, and I had selected a list of potential candidates
from the February list.

This was not in my February list because it made it to Round 3 of the Dynamic Debuts Battle. It
was in my April list, which did not consider such Battles. It made it by "virtue" of the fact that
it lost 12-10 in Round 1 of the 1954 Battle to: Sonny Boy Williamson - She Brought Back Life To The
Dead. I hope it does much better this time.

BTW, when it was used in the Dynamic Debuts Battle, it was listed as from 1955. I found a number
of references to it being from 6/1955, but I did find it listed in the January 8, 1955 issue of
Billboard Magazine, and I suspect you used that to date it as 1954.

I most likely would have used it in April.

Ooby Dooby - Roy Orbison
http://youtu.be/SS4P1F6Svsg
Here's what happened

The original version of "Ooby Dooby" was by The Teen Kings with vocal
by Roy Orbison recorded at Norman Petty Studios in Clovis NM in March
1956 and released on the Je-Wel label

Shortly afterwards Roy signed solo for Sun and re-recorded the song
(using pretty much the same backing crew) for Sam Phillips who
promptly released this version---which of course is the version chosen
above.

Unfortunately BOTH releases featured in the 1956 Singles Battle which
SHOULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED since Roy's Sun version is a re-recording
by the same principal artist

The Teen Kings version itself is not eligible since it won two rounds

Sorry that my mistake has caused problems here
