Thunderbird setting
(too old to reply)

I am using Thunderbird on both my Win10 and Ubuntu 20.04.

I checked the settings on each machine and they are identical.

I have the boxed checked for "Ask me before downloading more than 500
messages."

On my Windows machine it does exactly that but on my Ubuntu machine it
always defaults to downloading all messages.

Though I can recheck the "500" box and it will do so...that setting
never holds

Anyone know what the deal is?

I've seen that problem before, requiring that each time Tb 'prepares' to
dl msg/s the 500 is unchecked and has to be checked.

You might try changing the setting in the Account settings box to 'off'
and closing and then reopening and changing it back to 'on' 500.

Just tried that but it didn't work.

Thank you.

This is if course not a big deal

Tried but not successful, thank you.

Not a major big deal
I've run live systems such as Mint Cinnamon Tb that have done that way,
while usually the problem 'corrects itself' after while.

I asked the same question 6 months ago in the Mozilla TB support group,
but got no reply. It used to work ok in 52.9.1 but changed when I
updated to 68.10.0. I haven't updated further, and see that's the
version you are using. Anyone know if it works ok in 78.x?

I will have to check my Windows machine but I think I stopped updating
it at an earlier version due to some problems with a newer version.

I haven't tested 78 yet; it works OK in 60.9.0; does NOT work right in
68.10.0.

For some purposes, I have found Tb Enigmail to be very helpful. Tb 78
breaks enigmail.

Moz has a longish discussion about how Tb is integrating itself w/
openpgp, but that discussion also says that not all enigmail features
will be found in the current Tb 78 release.

The traditional Enigmail Add-on cannot be used with version 78, because of changes to the underlying Mozilla platform Thunderbird is built upon.

Not sure what features are missing. I have Tb 78 and Enigmail port just
fine. And in SeaMonkey it requires the plugin and it also is working
just fine.

Take care,
