(too old to reply)

Did he get it just after the depussification that happened on board the old
one, or was it much later than that?

I've been curious since the first appearance of the "Stugots I",
about the translation of the word. I grew up near Providence, RI,
and had many eye-talian friends who used that term. I've tried
to find a translation on the net, to no avail. I assume it's a slang
term? Also, would the correct spelling be "stucots"? I know that
many times, for Italian words, a "C" is pronounced like "G".

cagoots
capacola
ricotta
etc....

Interesting that they use an o in Stugots, in line with American
pronunciation rather than Italian.

Maybe Tony is not as Italian as Ray Romano?

I think the context though usually is to mean "nothing," as in "What
did he bring to the party?" "Stugats."

http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=stugats

An Italian-American corruption of the Italian words Stunatta and Cazzo. It
literally means "Stupid Dick".
Do you believe Paulie forgot to weigh down the body? Whata fuckin' stugats!

An Italian american word combining two simple words "Stupid (stu)" and
"Balls (gats)". Often heard on the hit TV show " The Sopranos". Tony uses it
alot in his dialect.

Richie: You and that fucking association with that cocksucker Baron wont
let my cock fucking expand.
Tony: You fucking stugats, i dont care if your dealing for walmart.
Marc : Eh, you gonna go to the club or no?
Mike & Andrew: You fucking stugàts.

Jersey with connections. Is also used by people in New York. It means
nothing, crap, sh*t.
"What the f*ck do you know?!? You don't know stugats!"
"I got stugats for my birthday...I didn't even get a freaking card."
"You're so f*cking stupid, you got stugats for brains."

Yup. That's the usage I'm familiar with. Essentially, a slang
term meaning "nothing". Quite commonly used among Italians in
the greater Providence area.
I was always curious about the etymology, or literal translation.

The Italians here pronouce it ucatz. I definitely heard Rizzo the Rat on
Muppets Tonight say it that way once.

Tony's use of the word is in the "balls" domain, not the "nothing"
domain....
