It doesn't say "impervious" ... it says "the current vaccines that we
have may well be less effective".

The vaccines, because of the way they are made, will work to some
degree against any variant of Covid, it's just a matter of how
effective they are which already varies with the vaccine types. There
is a also a newer vaccine in testing which is more effective than the
Pfzier vaccine (which has been the most effective of the existing ones).
