I think Children of Earth Episode 2 answers your question. Even when
blown by a bomb into fragments, Jack still recovers.

In one of the Torchwood: Miracle Day episodes, there's a flashback to the late 1920s, during which Jack lets slip the fact of his immortality to his BOYFRIEND, who then panics and stabs Jack, only to see him heal. The boyfriend then calls in his friends, who string him up and stab him some more, with the same result! I kept wondering why Jack's tormentors don't just cut off his head. (I don't recall them doing so. If they did, please refresh my memory).

Would Jack be able to recover if someone incinerated him, as was being done to the Category Ones during Torchwood: Miracle Day?

They want to keep him coming back to life to get as much blood as they could.
The initial group was trying to kill the demon. (They hadn't yet implemented
killall -KILL capn-jack.) Then a group took over who were collecting his
immortal blood.

Not during Miracle day. He was mortal during that period. Otherwise, yes, the
pieces/ashes/pink mist of his body pulled themselves back together again.

It's a little known fact that between his Capn Jack phase and his Face of Bo
phase, he had a smurf phase of a few millenia of being very upset with humanity
and went around all holier than thou judging people until Buffy done blowed him
up real good.

I haven't seen that episode in a long time. When did it air?

How did Jack recover from being blown into fragments?

It was never stated Jack was immortal. Whether he would eventually stay dead was
left unknown.

Jack was a Face of Boe. The Doctor and Martha aren't sure if he was the same one
as in Gridlock at the end of the Last of the Timelords.

I don't need to. Jack said he was the Face of Boe, as in the Boeshane
Peninsula. It was a joke. RTD said so himself - and that the moment it was
confirmed one way or the other, the joke dies. Any novel or other
publication that attempted to link the 2 was rejected by him.

So maybe you should try again.

but not something that ever really happened.

No Yads. If you can't see that the number of times Jack "died" has nothing
to do with whether he ever became the Face of Boe, that's your problem.

Jack Harkness is immortal and heals rapidly. What would
happen
if
someone cut off his head?
You get the Face of Boe
But the Face wasn't immortal. He died at the end of Gridlock.
I've always taken the idea that Jack was the Face of Boe as a
little
joke,
but not something that ever really happened.
And how many times did Jack 'die'?
Irrelevant.
Try again.
No Yads. If you can't see that the number of times Jack "died" has nothing
to do with whether he ever became the Face of Boe, that's your problem.
Come on looks at how many time he had to miss himself.
Huh??
As in avoiding crossing his own time line?
Still no idea what you're on about.
His time line is not linear.
Yes it is. Regardless, what point are you trying to make?
What happened since PArting of the Ways for Jack?
Plenty. Your point being?
He lives a long Time until he dies as the Face of Boe.

meeting, in "The End of the World" they had nothing to say to each other. If
the Doctor had suddenly become an old friend that must have happened
somewhere on the Doctor's and Boe's timelines between these two episodes. So
it would seem that Boe is also a time traveller, and became the Doctor's old
friend far into the Doctor's future. He may yet appear in new episodes.

Couldn't be. He died. And his accent was wrong. Maybe Jack's people had
already met the Face of Boe and gave Jack that nickname because of Jack's
vanity.
Boe is simply that century's cosmetics company and "the Face of Boe" is
just their celebrity spokesperson. ;-)

He lives a long Time until he dies as the Face of Boe.
Your evidence being...?

Try again.
Draw the connection.
There isn't one.
How would Boe know that The Doctor was not alone?
How would Jack?

If you can find a single reference to Satan in Genesis, why don't you go
ahead and tell me where it is?

You can't because it's not there. So why don't you shut up for a change?

Read again who the Serpent was in the Garden of Eden.
The serpent was the serpent. It was not Satan. If it was Satan, it would
have been called Satan. It was not called Satan. Can you tell me where in
Genesis it says the serpent was not a serpent?

From your precious King James Bible: Genesis 3:1 "Now the serpent was more
subtil than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made." Serpent.
Not Satan. Beast of the field. Not angel or fallen angel.

Genesis 3:14 "And the Lord God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done
this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field;
upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy
life"

So - are you telling me that all serpents are Satan? Or are you saying that
Satan wanders around on his belly, and can only eat dust?

Maybe it's YOU who is Satan. Or perhaps Satan's little helper. Here to
spread untruths, to cause mischief.

cannot distinguish a conjecture and a fact is a bible thumper for one kind of

I'm not trying to prove whether or not any god exists. I'm saying that,
whether you take the Bible as a collection of fiction, or whether you want
to believe it's all true, there's nothing to link the character of the
talking serpent in Genesis to the character of Satan in Job. I have given
evidence to Yads to support my assertion. His side of the argument is that
he doesn't need any evidence. Although he cannot show why, he knows they are
the same, therefore anyone who says different is wrong.

Jack Harkness is immortal and heals rapidly. What would
happen
if
someone cut off his head?
Life could get very boring if you were immortal.
God is immortal!
And as fictional as Captain Jack. So what?
God is not fiction.
Try again.
Yes SW you are a fool.
Try again.
Yes you are. Just like Satan in the Garden of Eden.
I assume you're talking about a story in the book of Genesis. Satan
did
not
appear in the book of Genesis. Way to make yourself look even more
foolish...
0/10 . SW is an illiterate.
If you can find a single reference to Satan in Genesis, why don't you go
ahead and tell me where it is?
You can't because it's not there. So why don't you shut up for a change?
Apart from anything else, this is a Dr Who newsgroup. If you want to
bang
on
about your religion, take it somewhere more appropriate.
Genesis 3:14 "And the Lord God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done
this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field;
upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy
life"
So - are you telling me that all serpents are Satan? Or are you saying that
Satan wanders around on his belly, and can only eat dust?
Maybe it's YOU who is Satan. Or perhaps Satan's little helper. Here to
spread untruths, to cause mischief.
You read and misinterpret SW.
So you say. Yet you haven't told me what I've misinterpreted. You've not
said how I've misinterpreted it. In short, you lose.
You do not want to acknowledge you are incorrect.
You've not shown me that I'm incorrect. I will acknowledge I'm incorrect as
soon as you give me the evidence. Until then - you are the one who is
incorrect.
SW: I deny therefore I am.

Satan as a proper name for god's adversary seems to first appear in
the Book of Job, but god's adversary does appear in the Book of
Genesis in the guise of a serpent without being given a specific name.

Ha-satan is Hebrew for adversary or accusor ... or figuratively, the
opposition.

Oh yes, I understand that. I also understand that the Jews had a very
different concept of Satan to Christians, and a very different concept of
Heaven, no concept of Hell and almost nothing to say about an afterlife. All
of that came along later with the invention of Christianity. The God of the
Old Testament is very different from the God of the New Testament. The Satan
of the Old Testament was very different to the Satan of the New Testament.
The Satan the Jews believed in was not the personification of evil.

I also understand that many Christians like to think that Satan is the same
as the serpent is the same as Lucifer is the same as Beelzebub. And they
like to think Jesus has a surname of "Christ" and that he was born in a
stable on 25th December. None of that is mentioned in the Bible itself. It's
all a myth of a myth. The fact of the creation story of the Old Testament is
that it does not feature a being called Satan (or Ha-satan). It features a
talking snake who loses his legs as punishment for tempting Eve.

As you say, the first book to feature a character called "Satan" (or in this
case Ha-Satan, "the accuser") was indeed Job - in which he was charged by
God to tempt humans, and then to report back so that God could reward or
punish them as necessary. And if you read the story, you will see it's God,
not the satan, that caused all of Job's suffering. The satan in this story
was not a talking snake, any more than the talking snake in Genesis was
intended to be Satan.

Speaking of religion in a Doctor Who thread, was Jack Harkness Jesus?
NO!

You can do many things in Dr Who. Religion is one thing that's a no-go area.
For whatever reasons, people of certain religions get very angry when they
think anybody has done anything that in their mind insults their religion.

Jack Harkness is immortal and heals rapidly. What would happen if
someone cut off his head?
Life could get very boring if you were immortal.
Unless you found a hobby to keep yourself busy.

It would have to be an ever-changing range of hobbies since most things
would eventually stop being made or done.

Maybe his atoms become scattered then reassemble themselves.
A supernatural person does not die.
