Approved (I think that's what I'm supposed to say, it's been a long time
since there was any bad taste here I was beginning to think I was in the
wrong newsgroup).

You now have me wondering if the anti-Semitic troll was hoping for a BTN.

<beam> Thank you, BTM.

And I think you are right to question whether such a joke should be made
by a non-member of the group affected. I certainly wouldn't have posted
anything equivalent about slavery, for example. I was even hesitant
about what I did post, but I thought I could trust umrats with it - and
anyway, it's high time we had some BT around here.

I have recommended The Jewish Joke by Devorah Baum here before, I think.
It is
a) hilarious, and
b) very thoughtful about the purpose of jokes about painful topics and
when and by whom they may be acceptable. My review of it, saying a
little more about this, is here if anyone is interested:

I have been looking after a beagle (Winnie) for a week. One evening,
as I was rolling a cigarette, the Beagle became very interested. Cooing
at the animal , I said - "No, Winnie, this is for (temporary) Mummies -
anyway - Nasty - you don't want a cigarette." Pause. (Cooing voice
OFF). "Actually - you're a Beagle- you might well..."

There's a Welsh version of the shipwreck joke:
Why does every Welsh village have at least two chapels?
So you have one you don't go to.

Berloimey!

This thread seems to have turned into the Heinz Tomato Ketchup of
threads[1] and I'd like to nominate the whole of it for a Bad Taste

I'm sorry, but this is not the Turner Prize. Besides there wouldn't be
enough room on the podium for a thread's worth of tastelessness providers.

Unless you have evil daughters who have not done up the lid and you give
it good shake before putting some on your breakfast and some of it ends
up on the ceiling instead. Don't think the stain went until the study
was redecorated.
