If "caste & community no bar" why does she specify that she is
"Brahmin"????
Elementary, my dear Aloysius, quite so...

Being a conscientious young lady she refuses to become a victim of
inverted discrimination:

Far from flaunting the caste which circumstances beyond her control have
embarrassed her with, she mentions it to give brahmin candidates, that may
meet her requisites but may fecklessly refrain from applying unsure of her
social status, fair bidding chance.

Hues and cries over a poor dame's request for a 'RC
Brahmin", now what would you say for the
advertisements that appears in local newspapers for
recruitment's in Government Services.

Why do the Govt. publicly advertise that certain quota
is reserved for schedule caste and schedule tribes. Is
Govt. not openly favouring and following casteism?

Can anybody give me an explanation on this please!!

Are you serious? Reservation for scheduled
caste/tribes is to undo (in a small way) for
discrimination they suffered for centuries. A Brahmin
who proclaims his caste as a sign of superiority is
indulging in discrimination, albeit with much less
effect today. As for the strange hybrid known as RC
Brahmin, the less said of such ridiculous creatures
the better...

Do we accept then that there's a difference between affirmative
action -- howsoever ineffective, inadequate and incorrectly applied --
and casteism? Or is it all the same? FN

Dear Goans Everywhere,

There is a major difference here --

Government is trying to improve the lot of scheduled castes and scheduled tribes -- who for all these years were deprived of all
facilities for study and economic improvement --

Whereas when we "Christians" talk of 'CASTE' in matrimonial advts we are trying to perpetuate this discrimination with a view to
keeping the so called "LOWER CASTES" where they were and where these "Christians" would like them to remain!!!

I look forward to the day when we Goans -- Christians, Hindus, Muslims and any other religions -- can say that we are Goans
first and foremost and will do our very best for our compatriots with a view to gradually improving the whole state --

Let us not be ' GOAN CRABS " -- pulling each other DOWN !!!!!!!

Cheers

Aloysius

Cheers

Aloysius

Hues and cries over a poor dame's request for a 'RC
Brahmin", now what would you say for the
advertisements that appears in local newspapers for
recruitment's in Government Services.
Why do the Govt. publicly advertise that certain quota
is reserved for schedule caste and schedule tribes. Is
Govt. not openly favouring and following casteism?
Can anybody give me an explanation on this please!!

Luis has made some interesting comments on the caste
issue. In 61 Goans were supposed to have been
emancipated from the caste.

Education was for all. But why do the puppets allocate
areas for the caste system? Is this not institutional
casteism?

Where is the anti-Portuguese lobby now? Do they have a
clue as to what is happening in Goa, other than eating
watermelons from Parra?

Cornel please comment!

Hello Bernardo,
I am sorry I have fallen well behind in my responses to Goanet posts.
However,
I feel honoured that you did want me to reply to the Cybermatrimonials issue
relating to caste. By now, I feel that Mr Luis from Kuwait has received
perfectly good answers which reflect my thinking on why caste should
definitely not feature on Goanet Cybermatrimonials. The three responses were
from Halur Rasho, Aloysisus and Fred and I really do not have more to add
for now.

This issue has gone far beyond its original subjectline. Anyway, nice to
see a lot of publicity for a venture which one was earlier associated
with. Surely, this will bring in a lot more attention to
Cybermatrimonials ;-)
From: luis rodrigues <lunica99 at yahoo.co.in>
I don't agree to this. The discrimination were meted
out to the ancestors of SC/ST. But why the benefit is
given to the present generation. And if the
discrimination were carried out by the RC Brahmin for
those centuries, then why the hatrate towards the new
generation of RC Brahmin.
Simple. Because the fact that their ancestors worked with servere
handicapps still shows up in the lives of descendents today. You don't
need a scientific survey -- though there are figures, since the 2001
Census onwards -- to show how deep the gap is.

Some communities in India live in worse deprivation than the people of
sub-Saharan Africa. Others have a lifestyle (in terms of quality of
life) that might come close to Europe!

Of course, it's not just a case of "RC Brahmin" and "SC/ST". The Dalits
(as the 'SC/ST' find it sometimes more useful to call themselves) are at
the extreme end of discrimination and social handicaps. But there are
others too (the "intermediary" castes, or the Other Backward Castes, who
have also been subject to some forms of discrminiation earlier and
affirmative action in recent times).
You visit any Govt. office in Goa and see the attitude
of these SC/ST employees. In front of them you feel
that you are a SC/ST. So you decide if this "UNDO"
system of yours should be carried on.
As far as I know, their attitude is no worse than that of the average
government servant. It has also a lot to do with stereotyping that has
led us to believe those who come in on reservations are somehow
inferior. So, a nice form of double-discrimination. Even in their
attempted urge to equality, they will be insulted.

We tend to conveniently forget that reservations -- say to the medical
or engineering college -- is only at the level of admission. All
students then have to pass the same exams!
In my opinion, if we are against casteism, it should
be on all basis and not on certain caste only.discrimination were
carried out by the RC Brahmin for
those centuries, then why the hatrate towards the new
generation of RC Brahmin.
I don't think anyone who is against casteism is criticism just the "RC
Brahmin" as you put it. This criticism of a pugnacious system need not
to be taken personally. It is an ideology or value-system that is being
questioned and criticised; not a group of people based on origins.

I don't agree to this. The discrimination were meted
out to the ancestors of SC/ST. But why the benefit is
given to the present generation. And if the
discrimination were carried out by the RC Brahmin for
those centuries, then why the hatrate towards the new
generation of RC Brahmin.

You visit any Govt. office in Goa and see the attitude
of these SC/ST employees. In front of them you feel
that you are a SC/ST. So you decide if this "UNDO"
system of yours should be carried on.

In my opinion, if we are against casteism, it should
be on all basis and not on certain caste only.

Regards,

Luis Rodrigues

Luis has made some interesting comments on the caste
issue. In 61 Goans were supposed to have been
emancipated from the caste.

Education was for all. But why do the puppets allocate
areas for the caste system? Is this not institutional
casteism?

Where is the anti-Portuguese lobby now? Do they have a
clue as to what is happening in Goa, other than eating
watermelons from Parra?

Cornel please comment!

This issue has gone far beyond its original subjectline. Anyway, nice to
see a lot of publicity for a venture which one was earlier associated
with. Surely, this will bring in a lot more attention to
Cybermatrimonials ;-)
From: luis rodrigues <lunica99 at yahoo.co.in>

out to the ancestors of SC/ST. But why the benefit is
given to the present generation. And if the
discrimination were carried out by the RC Brahmin for
those centuries, then why the hatrate towards the new

I don't think anyone who is against casteism is criticism just the "RC
Brahmin" as you put it. This criticism of a pugnacious system need not
to be taken personally. It is an ideology or value-system that is being
questioned and criticised; not a group of people based on origins.

Are you serious? Reservation for scheduled
caste/tribes is to undo (in a small way) for
discrimination they suffered for centuries. A Brahmin
who proclaims his caste as a sign of superiority is
indulging in discrimination, albeit with much less
effect today. As for the strange hybrid known as RC
Brahmin, the less said of such ridiculous creatures
the better...

Luis Rodrigues

Luis has made some interesting comments on the caste
issue. In 61 Goans were supposed to have been
emancipated from the caste.

Education was for all. But why do the puppets allocate
areas for the caste system? Is this not institutional
casteism?

Where is the anti-Portuguese lobby now? Do they have a
clue as to what is happening in Goa, other than eating
watermelons from Parra?

Cornel please comment!

This issue has gone far beyond its original subjectline. Anyway, nice to
see a lot of publicity for a venture which one was earlier associated
with. Surely, this will bring in a lot more attention to
Cybermatrimonials ;-)
From: luis rodrigues <lunica99 at yahoo.co.in>

out to the ancestors of SC/ST. But why the benefit is

discrimination were carried out by the RC Brahmin for
those centuries, then why the hatrate towards the new

I don't agree to this. The discrimination were meted
out to the ancestors of SC/ST. But why the benefit is
given to the present generation. And if the
discrimination were carried out by the RC Brahmin for
those centuries, then why the hatrate towards the new
generation of RC Brahmin.

You visit any Govt. office in Goa and see the attitude
of these SC/ST employees. In front of them you feel
that you are a SC/ST. So you decide if this "UNDO"
system of yours should be carried on.

In my opinion, if we are against casteism, it should
be on all basis and not on certain caste only.

Regards,

Luis Rodrigues

Luis has made some interesting comments on the caste
issue. In 61 Goans were supposed to have been
emancipated from the caste.

Education was for all. But why do the puppets allocate
areas for the caste system? Is this not institutional
casteism?

Where is the anti-Portuguese lobby now? Do they have a
clue as to what is happening in Goa, other than eating
watermelons from Parra?

Cornel please comment!

This issue has gone far beyond its original subjectline. Anyway, nice to
see a lot of publicity for a venture which one was earlier associated
with. Surely, this will bring in a lot more attention to
Cybermatrimonials ;-)

In front of them you feel

system of yours should be carried on.

I don't think anyone who is against casteism is criticism just the "RC
Brahmin" as you put it. This criticism of a pugnacious system need not
to be taken personally. It is an ideology or value-system that is being
questioned and criticised; not a group of people based on origins.

Dear Netters,

I fully agree with the good dotor. We cannot say we want to contain the

Why are so many married men reading the Cybermatrimonials in such detail? Most of those who have
commented on the 'RC Brahmin' [SIC] post are married men.

Hmmm..... ;-)))
