Dear Group! Sir Thomas Brooke MP (1355-1418) was son of Thomas Brooke of Brooke Ilchester by Constance Markenfield.

Was Constance related to the Markenfield Family of Markenfield Hall in Yorkshire?

Remove the birthyear for Sir Thomas Brooke, we have no idea what year he was born.
He was married by 1391, and his father was dead in 1368
That's what we know

The biography of Sir Thomas Brooke in HOP 1386-1421 says he was born ca. 1355.

Yes I saw that. But in the body of the article there is nothing to indicate why they picked that particular year.
They cite various things, but typically not inline with the claim, so it's hard to know.

The various editors at Wikipedia, WikiTree, Geni, don't seem to cite any thing relevant to that.

I do see that he was Sheriff of Somerset in 1389, I would assume he would have to at least be an adult for that office.
And at his first appearance in the records, he was apparently already then a Knight.

I'm not convinced that ca 1355 is more than a guess, to put him middling in the birth range where he should be.
