no, it's not really that straightforward. It's more like somewhere in bills mind he wants to elevate her beyond something she is...."melinda and me did this" on an on. It's like if he repeats that enough he will convince others she is a groundbreaking thinker/doer like him, and he would like that....there isnt anything wrong with being the hard working ho-hum professional she was before she married Gates. I am, you are, most of us here are- we have good jobs and worked or trained hard to carve out a career. Good for us, and good for her for doing so too. But don't throw this "melinda and bill" shit at us to try to pass off that her accomplishments(beyond marrying bill and thus accomplishing being insanely rich through this) are more than what they are....

Mark Zuckerberg of facebook does the same thing with his wife. Shes a pediatrician(or used to be, I dont think she practiced much after residency was done)....which is fine. She should be proud of that as I know what sort of work that entails. But to hear him speak, you'd think she is in another stratosphere of accomplishment and impact.....

With Melinda Gates, lets you call it like it is- she married an incredibly successful and famous dude worth 100 billion and then started a foundation and became a philanthropist due to this. Fine. But don't act like her philanthropy career can be measured objectively as some smashing success/accomplishment....

If one were *honestly* writing a wiki profile, what would the very first sentence or two discuss with her. It would go:

Melina Gates(born august 15, 1964) is the wife of Bill Gates. She.....(and then talk about the charity, but talk about it as something that she is allowed to do because she is married to one of the richest people in the world, not because she is some innovative groundbreaking executive who spearheads the foundation because of this and not because she is married to Bill Gates).....

Instead her actual wiki profile talks about her being an american philanthropist before it even mentions the bill gates connection(!) and actually mentions her being a general manager at Microsoft(in marketing) also before mentioning her connection to Gates(who she was rsfcking btw when she got that promotion)....

and it is even more ridiculous in this case because it's Bill freaking Gates. Jokes about his looks or haircut aside, there are 7-8 billion in the world and he has spent much of the last 2-3 decades as the richest person in it. Or damn close to it. And it's not a "my last name is walton" type of wealth either- his name is synonymous with being an IT mastermind *and* a business mastermind *and* a rich guy. He is truly an archetype spanning all these things(smart guy, rich guy, business guy, computer guy)....snide comments aside from IT know it alls who downplay his accomplishments as a lot of luck, this is Bill Freaking Gates......

And juxtaposed against all that is this idea that this melinda gates entity is something more than a wife, mother, etc.....she's not. Not that there is *anything* wrong with that- I'm not, you're not, everyone in this forum is not. Everyone I know is not and some of these people like my mom and sister mean more to me than anyone. Bill Gates is though, and as much as Melinda Gates wishes it to be so her marrying the guy doesn't make her truly famous, or a revolutionary business/IT type, or accomplished in a "my gosh look how long their wikipedia page is" way.....

So this idea that one of the very richest people in the world with name recognition through the roof who revolutionized an entire field/industry should list his name *after* his soon to be ex wife?? No....thats a problem. Her name shouldnt be listed at all, but if it is it shouldnt be before his. The fact that he certainly thought about it and decided that was a good idea shows what kind of guy he is, and more importantly what kind of woman she is. that more than anything is what led to the dissolution of this marriage.....

Let's be real she married him well after he was Bill Freaking Gates. She had ZERO to do with nurturing him during the growth of what would become the behemoth that was and is microsoft. She can start all the charities she wants to, but thats just a consequence of marrying the richest person in the world. Thats not a freaking accomplishment, or mean she herself did anything along these lines....

It's just mind blowing how and why some people think the way they do(and why guys like bill gates let them)
