So the down trodden poor are kicked out of the bunkhouse so that the orchard
workers can come from the Pacific and work.

Profits before people it seems rules OK.

It certainly doesn't look good - I look forward to hearing something
from the government. It is not clear whether the emergency
accomodation is privately held or not - and it is not clear why even
before the influx of workers there is such a shortage of accommodation
in Hawkes Bay. I know that the refurbishment programme is resulting
in denser state housing in some areas; perhaps not yet in Hawkes Bay,
but getting people to move away from wider family can be difficult -
especially if an adult has been able to find work. You are correct
about profits before people being abhorrent though Gordon - but there
may be little the government can do if they had a limited term
contract for the accomodation these people are currently in, which
given that it is seasonal worker accomodation on an orchard appears
likely. Do you think the Orchard owner needing the temporary workers
should have allowed them to stay?
