What news readers do people use for comp.os.vms?

I used to get messages from new.eternal-september.org using Thunderbird until I noticed that I wasn't getting messages. I switched to news.aloe.org for a while but that also seems to have stopped. Now I'm using Google Groups.

aioe is temporarily broken. They had a major RAID array failure. Might be
a few weeks - I know no more than that.

Answering your question....!

I use news.individual.net. It costs 10 euro (about $10) a year, and is
good at filtering out rubbish/spam.

Thanks. I was wondering if it was because I recently updated Suse on my PC.

I am using eternal-september with Thunderbird and I have no problems.

Specifically, I'm using reader.eternal-september.org, port 119, with no
connection security.

I have a vague recollection that I *was* having some issues a few years ago,
and had to disable security to get it to work reliably.

Perhaps now your issue is double posts ???

Other than the message showing up twice? :-)

I use news.individual.net it isn't free but costs less per
year than a single cup of anything from Starbucks.

RAID failure, possibly server having to be rebuilt from scratch.

Not a good choice, there's too much spam from there, I'n on the verge of
kill-filing the lot.

I still have both eternal-spring and aloe set up in Thunderbird and neither are getting messages from comp.os.vms. Other groups still work.

I use rn as a news reader, with the server provided by my ISP, panix. I
recommend panix in every way.

But news.aioe.org works just fine. That's "aioe" and not "aloe." For God's
sake, don't use Google Groups.

Interesting. I notice the nntp server is down and the web server is down
but they are still accepting ssh connections so it's not a connectivity issue.

I don't know where else to suggest in Europe. Panix is a great service
but there are a lot of nanoseconds between Germany and New York.

Someone recently posted (maybe here - not sure) that they lost

And they couldn't just throw nginx up to give a short text message explaining
they were having technical difficulties?

Not for me, I'm using panix (as mentioned earlier in this thread). But their
server is still running and it would take fifteen minutes to throw up a
banner.

My understanding it that they lost a RAID array and it will take a while -
a matter of weeks.

I use Firefox/Google Groups for c.o.v. I use Thunderbird for GRC's private
server for groups not served by any other site.
