Post by KevrobPost by J. ClarkeAnd with all of that, there are still FUCKING MORONS who jog down the
middle of the traffic lane in pitch dark in the pouring rain in black
clothing facing away from traffic instead of using the sidewalk. And
if you hit the idiots, which they richly deserve, then it's your
fault.
Sometime in the last 10 years I was bicyclingand I had to swerve into
traffic from the shoulder to avoid one of those loons. I slowed down to
ask him, "Why aren't you running against traffic?" He told me that,
because of the time of the day, that would put the sun in his eyes. If
he ran in the morning instead of the evening or any time in between he
wouldn't have put others out. There was a perfectly good park nearby he
could done circuits of. Nope, have to shuffle down the town's busiest
stretch of two-lane, with stretches that bridged some creeks, where
the sidewalk and/or verge disappeared, being a hazard to navigation.
Before anybody starts whataboutism re: folks on bikes, I would
ride using lights, hand signals, obeying stop signs and stoplights,
with lights fore and aft and wearing a reflective vest like a flag-
waver on a construction crew. I was a real "Fred" on my "grocery-
getter" hybrid. It was a useful tool when I was out-of-work and carless,
and even during the periods I was working but had yet to buy a car.
I was using the road for transportation more than just exercise.
"Act like a vehicle" was my rubric, and that was the law.
foot then.
