We have themeeting Peggy called and Lilian not invited and
gatecrashing it. Could Peggy have spent all her money on keeping Chris
in the Laurels? Or might she want to move inthere too with Hilda? Or
leaving Hilda for Kate to look after in her house, which she decides
to let Kate live in as long as Hilda needs her? Why are David and Ruth
invited though and not Lilian? Something to do with Brian's estate and
the farm?

It's going to be something lovely, and fun, to covertly celebrate
Peggy's friend's 100th birthday.

So do I!

It seems certain that something's been planned; this mysterious meeting
on Friday can't just be coincidence. Of course, what the SWs consider
fun and what would be fun for June Spencer to act isn't necessarily what
will be fun for us to listen to though...

Yes, whatever surprise Peggy has planned for her meeting on Friday will
have been recorded a few weeks ago (I'd thought it was more like a six
week lead time but I could well be wrong). Whatever June was recording
today won't be on air for a few weeks yet. The SWs will have known that
June's birthday was imminent though and will have been able to take
their time planning stuff for both Peggy and June.

Well, the meeting is David and Ruth but not Tony and Lilian. Maybe
Peggy wants to admonish David and Ruth about their mother's behaviour
and tell them to make sure she marries and doesn't just become a

I did look to see when FAL’s birthday is, 8th July, but it’s not a big one.
It’s the only reason I could see for not including FAL. I assume,
otherwise, that as D and R are involved it’s to do with Ruairagh. FAL isn’t
party to farm business.

How is it an economy measure: is it that they do a mammoth session of 5
week's worth all at once, thus saving travel/hotel expenses for the
cast? If so, I feel very sorry for the cast. Actually, thinking about
it, they _can't_ do much more than two or at most three week's worth in
one day, can they(?), so a 5-week blitz would at least involve hotel
expenses for one night ...

They don’t get as many as 18 episodes done in a day! Going flat out without
rehearsal or retake that would be in excess of 3.5 hours of recording time.
I would think 6 episodes in a day would be nearer the mark.

It is not. of course, necessary to record whole episodes in broadcast
order. I expect they have clever schedulers who make sure that as few
actors have to overnight as possible by deciding which scenes are
recorded when.

Plus there's the 3-week (or whatever it is) timelag. June is 100
today,  but TA this week was done 3 weeks ago, and what they do this
week won't  air for another 3 ...
Typically they now work in 5 week blocks of writing and recording, it
was extended from 4 to 5 as BBC economy measure some time ago.
They can record five weeks in a week. Careful planning means that is
one less session a year gathering the writing team, one less session in
the studio etc. So the savings add up.

Something to do with Brian's estate and
the farm?
She's booked a one-way ticket to to Switzerland.

Cheers

I think not, on balance. Poor taste though it undoubtedly is, it just
doesn't have quite the bite of a BTN. A little generic, perhaps?

She's going to suggest they re-run Jim's party for Lilian so as not to
waste all the preparation.

I know what it is! She has invited the people who run the three farms
in Ambridge. Lillian doesn't run a farm, nor do Alice and Kate.

I don't know why, though.

A random thought, nothing to do with the current discussion: Bridge Farm
and Home Farm are always referred to as such, but although Brookfield
Farm is sometimes, it's usually just referred to as Brookfield.

That sounds about right to me. If you, or someone in Ambridge, makes a
reference to "Brookfield" it's unlikely to mean anything other than the
farm. If you mention "Bridge" or "Home", on the other hand, you could
be using the words in their standard everyday meanings, rather than
referring to the farms.
