Sometime in the 1980s, somebody got the idea to repackage Schoolhouse Rock! for the VHS home video market and tapped out Cloris Leachman to perform new wrap-arounds with professional kid performers in an indoor synthetic playground. The songs were not even worthy of the regular SR songwriters/performers such as Bob Dorough, Lynn Ahrens, Dave Frischberg, Essra Mohawk, Lori Lieberman, et. al.
Other than the by then long-in-the-tooth Facts of Life sitcom in which Ms. Leachman took over Charlotte Rae's function, what possible cachet might Cloris Leachman have had with kids at the time? What parent decided to buy it for their kids on the strength of Cloris's presence wherein?
