Yup...it's true...

NATIONAL PIEROGI DAY

"On October 8th, National Pierogi Day recognizes an international dish that is a type of dumpling.

Pierogi is the plural form of the rarely used Polish word pierog. In English, we spell pierogi several ways, including perogi and pierogy. However you choose to spell it, these dumplings of unleavened dough bring a delicious meal to the table. The semicircular dough is often stuffed with savory fillings before being boiled. After boiling them, the cook will either bake or fry the dumplings in butter to finish cooking them.

Pierogi Combinations:

mashed potato filling
potato and cheese
potato and onion
cheese
cabbage
sauerkraut
ground meat
mushroom
spinach or fruit.

Other pierogi servings include melted butter, sour cream, fried bacon crumbles, sauteed mushrooms, and onions and/or green onion. The dessert variety, those filled with a fruit filling, can be enjoyed topped with applesauce, maple syrup, chocolate sauce and/or whipped cream.

There are other similar types of dumpling-like dishes in other ethnic cuisines.

The Eastern European immigrants popularized pierogi in the United States. At first, immigrants served pierogi to only their families. However, ethnic restaurants also served pierogi. After World War II, ethnic churches sold pierogi as a staple fundraiser. By the 1960s, grocery stores marketed pierogi for the frozen food aisles in many parts of the United States. In fact, grocery stores still sell them today.

While many eat pierogi as a main dish in other countries, Americans typically consider them a side dish.

Pierogi Tid Bits:

The Pittsburgh Pirates hold a pierogi race at every home game. Six pierogi costume-wearing runners (Potato Pete, Jalapeño Hannah, Cheese Chester, Sauerkraut Saul, Oliver Onion, and Bacon Burt) race to the finish line between innings.

Whiting, Indiana celebrates an annual Pierogi Fest each July.

Glendon, Alberta, Canada, is home to a 6000-pound pierogi standing 25 feet tall and is made of sturdy fiberglass and steel. Piercing the giant pierogi, built-in 1991, is an equally giant fork..."

I've been to Whiting's Pierogi Fest. A fun time, but what's the least appealing food you can think of on a hot, oppressively humid July day? For me that might be a big steaming plate of kielbasa, sauerkraut, and pierogi. A few cold beers helped but not enough.

Aside from that, it's October. Should this festival have been announced
by GM back in July? Damn, we all missed it!

Pittsburgh was a dying city back then. Steel imports ruined it, just like car
imports ruined Detroit. I like St. Louis, but it isn't in the best of health either.
Greg complains about Chicago's public safety, but he lives in a safe area.
Both St. Louis and Chicago still have some great cultural institutions, but we
won't retire here. We'll be back often, at least while my wife's parents are
alive.

Hi Pamela. I notice you've been away for a while, so I will let you in on
a few things you may have missed:

Most everyone is still bitching to everyone else, the same as ever. The
exceptions are posts from John & Bryan both, which have become even more
disgusting than most people here thought possible.

The discussion on inclusion which you started has petered out to a group
consensus on striking a balance between lazy bloating and rampant
obliteration.

Steve asked recently for everyone to post their grocery store receipts,
so I have done so, just to be a co-operative participant in our happy
Internet community and also to see how easy it is to use 'PostImg'. (JK
is currently having a technical issue with this service.)

NB: The candy & crisps are to give away to children roaming the streets.

He won't get an immediate job at a local hospital because he would fail
the drug test. If he can't pass a drug test, he has no business working
as any kind of nurse. That's just dangerous to patients/clients.

If Steve did out him by reporting him, that probably wasn't necessary.
Anyone hiring a nurse should be smart enough to do a background check.

They do though and this is why he can't get a job.

John ingests cannabinoids (and seroquel) orally. He takes
prednisolone by injection.

Any urine test on Kuthe would reveal the presence of cannabinoids,
seroquel and prostaglandin and require him to explain his conditions.
With evidence from any doctors.

That would flag up the mental health problem and physical disability
concealed from a series of Nursing agencies and the Missouri Nursing
Board.

There is a reason socialism has never succeeded: It runs directly counter to human nature. Socialist regimes either collapse or survive only by becoming less socialist; the more a country embraces economic freedom and free markets, the more prosperous it becomes. Economic freedom is the antidote to socialism, and human nature yearns for it – because it recognizes individuals, respects them and endows them with a great deal of responsibility to take charge of their own lives and lift one another up.

CBD oil doesn't get you high. It's sold over the counter all over the
place these days.

Yah, but . . . does it test positive for marijuana in a urine test?
Is it legal at the Federal level (I don't know and don't care, hence
the questions)?

Sorry, since I don't conduct lab tests I can't answer that question.
The first thing that popped up when I looked online is this:

https://tinyurl.com/686bc9md

"CBD products can still be problematic, however, when it comes to drug
testing. Though drug tests screen for THC, not CBD, many CBD products
contain a trace amount of THC which will be detected in your bloodstream
during a drug test."

It appears to depend on exactly how the lab is doing the screening and
whether or not what he is pure CBD or if it has traces of THC.

Yes, exactly Jill. For Military (and all DOD employees), they are
warned that no level of CBD is acceptable due to that THC risk. If
they come up positive, all career lost. Permanently.

Irksome in the extreme is unscrupulous sales places here trying to
capture military market, saying 'it's safe'. There have already been
cases of careers lost at the 18 year mark over 'safe CBD'.

Virginia is a transition state. Medical use allowed (NOT for
military/DOD even with proper prescription). Having up to 4 plants
allowed. We expect full legalization within a year or so. That STILL
won't change it for military/DOD though. Has to be federally approved
for them.

If DOA means Dead On Arrival, does DOD mean Dead On Departure?

Dunno, but DRT means "dead right there".

Gee, and John seems to think no one will be drug testing potential
nurses to work with children so CBD oil in his touted cuppa plus is just
fine.

Unlikely he'd make it that far into the process anyway. A simple Googling
would reveal his obsession with glabrous genitalia, and children are the
original glabrous genitalia folks.

He won't get an immediate job at a local hospital because he would fail
the drug test. If he can't pass a drug test, he has no business working
as any kind of nurse. That's just dangerous to patients/clients.
Yesterday my next door neighbor phoned, a young Army guy recently
returned from Iraq. I knew his father, an elderly guy, recently died.
Zack has been working hard at clearing the over grown property. His
riding lawn mower was bogged down in mud so I told him I'd come over
with my tractor to pull him out. I luckily was able to get him out of
the mud. He's been doing a great job cleaning his nine acres. I'm
sure he will be a sucess. He's been working at a warehouse and doing
well. He has a girlfriend, Maggie, a sweetie. She's an RN, working
at an Albany hospital as a wound care nurse. Together they will do
much better than Kutchie, the Lazy Lying Loser.

Squirt is conflicted.
Hi Pamela. I notice you've been away for a while, so I will let you
Most everyone is still bitching to everyone else, the same as ever.
The exceptions are posts from John & Bryan both, which have become
even more disgusting than most people here thought possible.
The discussion on inclusion which you started has petered out to a
group consensus on striking a balance between lazy bloating and
rampant obliteration.
Steve asked recently for everyone to post their grocery store
receipts, so I have done so, just to be a co-operative participant
in our happy Internet community and also to see how easy it is to
use 'PostImg'. (JK is currently having a technical issue with this
service.)
https://postimg.cc/6T30W72w
NB: The candy & crisps are to give away to children roaming the streets.
Thank you, I think.
I also learned Squirt claims to have John's nursing licence removed.
Depriving a guy of his livelihood is pretty egregious. He better not doing this just for laughs.
What livelihood?
Sure, it's all a big joke - unless it was your livelihood. Duh.

The Pittsburgh Pirates hold a pierogi race at every home game. Six pierogi costume-wearing runners (Potato Pete, Jalapeño Hannah, Cheese Chester, Sauerkraut Saul, Oliver Onion, and Bacon Burt) race to the finish line between innings.
There is a place called Pirogis Plus, in McKees Rocks, just outside of
Pittsburgh, that servers wonderful Pirogi's. I drove past it today.. I
would have stopped had I known! That's probably why there was line
around the parking lot.
