So, essentially, trick-or-treating is banned entirely. Or is there some
way I'm not imagining to give candy to kids that knock on your door that
doesn't violate these rules?

It's odd how all of these governments claim to be acting from the advice
of health experts yet each government comes up with different rules
around Halloween. I read an article recently where the public health
officer for all of Canada said there should be no problem having
Halloween except that candy/treats shouldn't all be in one big bowl
where each subsequent kid helps themselves. Yet Beverly Hills' expert
declares Halloween essentially forbidden entirely. Apparently the
science isn't as "settled" as the activists claim....

Your incorrect assumption that the science isn't settled is based on the
assumption that the politicians are following the science.

Well if the "science" on halloween candy was "completely settled"
they'd all be giving the same advice no?

I wish public health authorities would stop claiming that unreasonable
reaction in fear is science of any kind. That's the Dark Ages.

Our provincial health officer (BC) is telling kids to wear masks this
year (the plastic type not the covid type) and thinks people answering
the door should mask (nope - not going to do that in my own house!)
but otherwise trick or treat away

Maybe parents will spritz the kids' bags or tell them to wait till
next morning for candy (as if THAT will go over well with the kids!
But then if the candy is wrapped I don't see the issue - our
provincial health officer says you can't catch covid from paper and
presumably that applies to wax paper and cellophoane?)

When I was a kid we got a LOT of peanuts which I would think would be
pandemic proof whether in shell or in cellophane)

I don't think our community is doing trick or treat this year, but our

If law permits it, what's your beef? Aren't you part of the party whose
new mantra is "If we CAN do it legally, who gives a fuck if it's right?"

Pay attention. If it's permissible under law, Republicans have
abandoned any sense of principle of whether it should be done.

All that matters now is power. Your side ratfucked any attempt at
caring about what's right.

Protecting American citizens is their business. Should we deem the

protecting us too. If you want to protect yourself as part of white
militia instead, go form Dumfuckistan somewhere and have a nice life.

Their children will not catch Wuhan walking around outside with masks on.

After all, that's your excuse for allowing protests during a pandemic.
"But... but... it's not hypocrisy because they're outside with masks!"

And they're children. The flu is far more deadly to children than Wuhan
is, but we don't ban Halloween every year to protect them from the flu
or brand parents who do allow them to participate as "endangering their
kids".

How did this become about teenagers? The vast majority of

Yeah... but some are early teens.
And, more importantly, younger children are usually accompanied by an adult.

Our provincial health officer (BC) is telling kids to wear masks this
year (the plastic type not the covid type) and thinks people answering
the door should mask (nope - not going to do that in my own house!)
but otherwise trick or treat away
The bug doesn't care if you're in your own house.
I don't think our community is doing trick or treat this year, but our
lights will be off anyway. I don't need mama's little germ bags
breathing on me and mine.
Which how it should be handled.
If you're scared of the disease, don't participate. Keep your door
closed.
If you're not scared, have fun.
The government should stay out of it. It's none of their damned business.
Now, now... parents should be allowed to endanger their children all
they want.
Their children will not catch Wuhan walking around outside with masks on.
They will if they're huddled together a foot apart, which is how most
teenagers seem to congregate.

After all, that's your excuse for allowing protests during a pandemic.
"But... but... it's not hypocrisy because they're outside with masks!"
And they're children. The flu is far more deadly to children than Wuhan
is, but we don't ban Halloween every year to protect them from the flu
or brand parents who do allow them to participate as "endangering their
kids".
Teenagers are going to do what they want anyway, regardless of what
their parents or teachers tell them. Especially if parents or teachers
tell them something.
How did this become about teenagers? The vast majority of
trick-or-treaters around here are small elementary school age kids.
I don't know how it became about childrend and Halloween in the first
place.
Because I posted the link at the beginning of the thread about Beverly
Hills banning Halloween and threatening to criminally cite anyone who
gives a piece of candy to someone else.
There you go then. Teens like to go out on halloween too, and they
usually travel with a buddy or six.

With COVID-19, we are keeping purportedly healthy children out of
school.

We never kept kids with flu symptoms out of school. Every time I
got a cold in the winter, it was from my fellow snifflers. I probably
spread my cold to other kids too.

I'm sure plenty of kids who got the flu attended school till their
symptoms got too severe, and spread it to everyone else.

Post by BTR1701
But COVID-19 is not the seasonal flu. In many ways, it’s much worse.
A column Trusted Sourceprinted in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) on May 14 noted that flu deaths and COVID-19 deaths are not even reported the same way. The column written by Dr. Jeremy Samuel Faust, MS, an emergency medicine specialist affiliated with Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Massachusetts, states that flu deaths are estimated while COVID-19 deaths are confirmed cases.
He notes that during mid-April the “counted deaths” for COVID-19 in the United States were around 15,000 per week. During a typical “peak week” for the flu, the “counted deaths” are about 750. Faust concludes that COVID-19 deaths are actually anywhere from 10 times to 44 times the number of influenza fatalities.
Jesus Christ, but you are one thick-headed fuckwit. And it gets worse.

The flu is understood. It has treatments. We KNOW what it's long term
damages are. Covid is still a mystery, and it's effect may last a
lifetime. It's far more transmissible, and it spreads before people
know they even have it.
Post by BTR1701
On average, one person with the coronavirus transmits it to 2 to 2.5 other peopleTrusted Source — compared with 0.9 to 2.1 other people for the flu. People with the coronavirus can also pass it onto others for up to 3 daysTrusted Source before they show symptoms.
Jesus Christ, but you are one thick-headed fuckwit. (Just wanted to
repeat that, because 'thick-headed fuckwits' are so goddamned
thick-headed, you can tell them 20 times, and they STILL repeat the same
fucking bullshit.)

Sure. We all believe an anonymous klown on Usenet, instead of read
doctors now.
"A large new study from South Korea offers an answer: Children younger
than 10 transmit to others much less often than adults do, but the risk
is not zero. And those between the ages of 10 and 19 can spread the
virus at least as well as adults do."
So, while they don't have as serious symptoms, they do SPREAD it around
as much as adults. Mom and dad will LOVE that!
Mom and dad can make their own risk assessment and act accordingly. They
don't need the government doing it for them.
Meanwhile, the flu is far more deadly to children than Wuhan is, but we
don't ban Halloween every year to protect them from the flu or brand
parents who do allow them to participate as "endangering their kids".
Mom and Dad are listening the the fucking Idiot in Chief

Please... there is a DIRECT inference that the flu isn't all that much
worse than covid. That the flu is somehow WORSE than this virus. That
the big bad gub'mint somehow is treating covid differently because they
want to oppress you.

We understand the flu. We have treatments for the flu. The flu doesn't
attack all of our systems like covid does. The flu doesn't kill
220,000,people and shut down entire countries, cripple the economy and
make us all shut-ins.

But in Thanny's Stupidverse, not only is covid the lesser threat, it's a
tool to suppress your freedumb!

We don't know what the flu will be like yet or children. We've never
gone through a flu season in which we have been observing these new
protocols. All we know are the numbers from past seasons where we DON'T
social distance. Where we DON'T disinfect everything around us. Where
we DON'T wear masks and gloves, and use hand sanitizer.

There may be dramatically fewer flu deaths in children - making the
covid deaths look even worse.

And, once again, you ignore the obvious fact that when children DO get
it, they'll bring it back home, and to school to infect teachers,
parents and friends.

Perfect! Just what we ALL needed right now. Buy your kids a few bags
of candy, and call it a year.

There's nothing more American than demanding to carry an AR-15 to
"protect yourself" but refusing to wear a mask to protect everyone else.

If you hired a guy to "Make My House Great Again", and he hired his
incompetent children, stole your money, gave it away to your richest
neighbors, let everyone get sick, killed your grandma, backed over your
mailbox, burned down your house and blamed it on your black friends next
door... would YOU hire him AGAIN?

Our provincial health officer (BC) is telling kids to wear

thinks people answering the door should mask (nope - not

The bug doesn't care if you're in your own house.
I don't think our community is doing trick or treat this
year,
but our lights will be off anyway. I don't need mama's

germ bags breathing on me and mine.
Which how it should be handled.
If you're scared of the disease, don't participate. Keep
your door closed.
If you're not scared, have fun.
The government should stay out of it. It's none of their
damned business.
Now, now...  parents should be allowed to endanger their
children all they want.
Their children will not catch Wuhan walking around outside
with masks on.
Sure. We all believe an anonymous klown on Usenet, instead of
read doctors now.
"A large new study from South Korea offers an answer: Children
younger than 10 transmit to others much less often than adults
do, but the risk is not zero. And those between the ages of
10 and 19 can spread the virus at least as well as adults do."
So, while they don't have as serious symptoms, they do SPREAD it
around as much as adults. Mom and dad will LOVE that!
Mom and dad can make their own risk assessment and act accordingly.
They don't need the government doing it for them.
Meanwhile, the flu is far more deadly to children than Wuhan
is, but we don't ban Halloween every year to protect them from
the flu or brand parents who do allow them to participate as
"endangering their kids".

No, it's a statement of fact that for CHILDREN, the flu is deadlier

The kids in BH should just go as BLM protesters for Halloween. Then the

Well, that's not a worry, since the California Teachers Union has
refused to teach (while using the disease to demanding a pay raise and
increased benefits), so there's no chance Halloween trick-or-treaters

Nope. Covid is too new to say what the long term effects are.
But that isn't what you said. You didn't say Wuhan. You said the flu.

We've never
gone through a flu season in which we have been observing these new
protocols. All we know are the numbers from past seasons where we DON'T
social distance. Where we DON'T disinfect everything around us. Where
we DON'T wear masks and gloves, and use hand sanitizer.
There may be dramatically fewer flu deaths in children
That doesn't change the fact that the flu is a deadlier disease for kids
than Wuhan is.
Only because the normal flu case numbers don't take into account the
covid measures we're currently taking. If we weren't doing what we are,
they covid cases would dwarf the seasonal flu numbers.
And the flu will nevertheless still be a deadlier disease for children
than Wuhan.
You can lock a kid in a sterile bubble and he'll never get any disease,
but that won't change the mortality rates of all diseases for his age
range.
You may never get Ebola because you live on the opposite side of the
world from its reservoir, but that doesn't change the fact that Ebola is
vastly more deadly than Wuhan.

And, once again, you ignore the obvious fact that when children DO get
it, they'll bring it back home
Which wasn't what you claimed. You claimed that parents who allow
trick-or-treating are endangering their *kids*, not themselves.
It's both.
And there go those goalposts again.
Nope. It's both. I never said covid ONLY affected just the children.
That's what you'd LIKE me to have said - but I didn't. Boo-hoo for you...

We've never experienced this before, but we know covid can make kids
sick, and even kill them.

And, yeah, we DON'T know how this flu season will affect anybody this
season. We've never gone through one where everybody is washing their
hands, wearing masks, socially distancing, not congregating at bars and
gatherings.

The flu case numbers is likely to be dramatically lower - thus making
everybody see how much WORSE covid is than the flu. Nothing here helps
your idiotic Crusade.

If you hired a guy to "Make My House Great Again", and he hired his

No, because the disease isn't as lethal to individuals in that age range
as the flu is.

If you took 200 young kids and exposed 100 of them to Wuhan and 100 to
the flu, statistically, less than one of the Wuhan kids would even get
sick and none would die. Conversely, the flu would sicken 60-70% of
them, and there'd be a significant chance of several deaths.

You're FULL of shit, Dr Supergenius. The flu is a RESPIRATORY disease.
It's looking like covid is a VASCULAR disease.

"Frank Ruschitzka told his pathologist to be ready before the first
COVID-19 patient died. In early March, Ruschitzka, who leads the
cardiology department at University Hospital Zürich, noticed that
patients with the disease had strange symptoms for what was then thought
to be chiefly a respiratory infection. Many patients had acute kidney
failure, organ damage, and mysterious blood clots. Several weeks later,
the first body was autopsied: Tiny clots and dead cells littered the
capillaries of the lungs, and inflammation had distended blood vessels
supplying every organ in the body.

The pathologist had never seen anything like it. But the results showed
Ruschitzka why his patients were suffering so much: The virus had
targeted their blood vessels."

Show me a flu, Dr. Supergenius, that targets blood vessels - which
affects EVERY organ in the body. Stick to pretending what you're better at.

"Since the Zürich team’s findings were published in mid-April, dozens of
studies have revealed similar patterns of vascular damage in people who
died of COVID-19. For example, a 21 May paper in The New England Journal
of Medicine showed that the lungs of COVID-19 victims had nine times as
many clots as those who died of the H1N1 flu. Other studies have noted
inflammatory symptoms in children and strokes in otherwise healthy young
adults. Now, researchers have woven these findings into a new hypothesis
explaining why some patients slip into a fatal “second phase” of
COVID-19, 1 week or so after hospitalization."

We've never
gone through a flu season in which we have been observing these new
protocols. All we know are the numbers from past seasons where we DON'T
social distance. Where we DON'T disinfect everything around us. Where
we DON'T wear masks and gloves, and use hand sanitizer.
There may be dramatically fewer flu deaths in children
That doesn't change the fact that the flu is a deadlier disease for
kids than Wuhan is.

Which wasn't what you claimed. You claimed that parents who allow

It's both.
And there go those goalposts again.
Nope. It's both. I never said covid ONLY affected just the children.
That's what you'd LIKE me to have said - but I didn't. Boo-hoo for you...
We've never experienced this before, but we know covid can make kids
sick, and even kill them.
Not nearly with the frequency the flu does.
Because we isolated.
That has zero relevance to which one is more deadly to children.
Sure does. We don't have ANY idea how this disease will affect people
in the future.
Can't say that about 'the flu'.

Isn't.

If you're scared of the disease, don't participate. Keep your door
closed.
If you're not scared, have fun.
The government should stay out of it. It's none of their damned business.
Protecting American citizens is their business.  Should we deem the
military not necessary too and defund them?  They're supposed to be
protecting us too.  If you want to protect yourself as part of white
militia instead, go form Dumfuckistan somewhere and have a nice life.
Or just cut the fucking bullshit already.
Now, now...  parents should be allowed to endanger their children all
they want.
The Party of Life sez so.
Apparently Thanny's so fucking stupid he thinks wearing a Halloween mask
protects them.
"COVID-19 Trends Among School-Aged Children — United States, March
1–September 19, 2020
Weekly / October 2, 2020

Since March, 277,285 COVID-19 cases in children have been reported."

But, but... Dr. Thanny said: "Their children will not catch Wuhan
walking around outside with masks on."

Yeah... unless they're taking things from one house to another - which
is kind of the point of Trick or Treat.
--
There's nothing more American than demanding to carry an AR-15 to
"protect yourself" but refusing to wear a mask to protect everyone else.

Our provincial health officer (BC) is telling kids to wear masks this
year (the plastic type not the covid type) and thinks people answering
the door should mask (nope - not going to do that in my own house!)
but otherwise trick or treat away
The bug doesn't care if you're in your own house.
I don't think our community is doing trick or treat this year, but our
lights will be off anyway. I don't need mama's little germ bags
breathing on me and mine.
We're putting out on the front porch little grab bags of candy that are
currently being quarantined, with a sign saying "Take one," and waving
at Trick or Treaters from behind a glass door. But we don't expect many
(maybe any) Trick or Treaters this year. This is a just-in-case plan.

We got 17 trick-or-treaters, which is about half of usual, but I'm glad
we had something for them.

Uh, dude, you've got strangers coming to your front door whose ability
to infect you you couldn't possibly know. They'll be within six feet of
you. It's the same thing as shopping in a grocery store. You can't
socially distance and to the extent that a mask would protect you (it's
barely doing anything), shouldn't you wear it?

It's not about the castle doctrine but close interaction with strangers.

I confess I was wondering how local bylaws could ban fireworks given
it's oh so easy to transport them across municipal boundaries.
Vancouver's got the same ban coming in but it doesn't come in till Jan
1 2021 or thereabouts so THIS year is to be the last legal fireworks
year.

This of course does not affect organized fireworks shows like the
"Symphony of Light" where the fireworks are detonated from barges
located 100-200 yds off major beaches.

Nor I suspect will it unduly affect kids with strings of firecrackers
since those are hard to catch....

If people in your area are anything like around here it won't do much
to stop the fireworks displays. Sure, some people will stop setting
them off but many will keep doing it. At least that was my experience
here in Georgia where they were outlawed for years. People would cross
the border to Florida, Tennessee and Alabama to get fireworks to bring
home. So there were always big fireworks stores right across the state
border.

TORONTO -- Toronto Mayor John Tory says that he "won’t hesitate" to push for the cancellation of trick or treating this Halloween if public health officials deem it too risky.

Tory made the comment during an interview with CP24 on Wednesday morning, noting that any such decision would be based solely on the advice of Medical Officer of Health Dr. Eileen de Villa and other health officials.

His comments come on the heels of a decision by Los Angeles County to prohibit trick or treating due to the COVID-19 pandemic and instead urge its more than 10 million residents to organize online parties or car parades to mark the occasion.

L.A. backed off the Halloween ban when they got a collective 'fuck off'
from the public and there's no way they could enforce it anyway.

Beverly Hills can get away with it because it's such a small city that
their cops can actually police every neighborhood.

I dunno Rich - in BC the health officer said OK to trick or treating
but strongly encouraged kids to wear masks this year and am pretty
sure she wasn't talking about cloth masks over makeup.

Toronto banned it. Or, in their terminology, "canceled it."

Update; Canada is now making noises about "regional travel restrictions" b-b-but they don't want to make them official!! So, they "suggest" that
people in hot areas restrict their travel...voluntarily. They left out the "or else" part.

Check out this little martinet in Australia. Private security guard
freaks out on a cyclist for not wearing a mask, then tries to gaslight
him and tell him that he's not exercising when he obviously was.

I don't know why anyone even stops for private security guards. They
have no authority over you and ignoring them is not a crime the way it
would be with a real cop.

We have these assholes in the South Bay here, too. Two of the four Beach
Cities lost their collective minds and passed ordinances requiring mask
use anywhere, the moment you walk out of your residence, to include at
restaurants while eating-- you have to raise your mask back up after
every bite, and also at the beach, even in the water, which would seem
to actually be a safety risk far above any potential Wuhan droplets
exhaled out in the open ocean.

These two cities' police departments aren't near large enough to enforce
this nonsense, so they hired private security companies to deploy dozens
of rent-a-cops with ticket books to wander around harassing people and
writing them tickets. One tried to stop me as I rode my bike down the
Strand. She was like, "Sir, I need you to stop," and I just said "No
thanks" and kept on going.
