It's been reported in a British paper, though the exact date hasn't been
Leigh Rayment now dates his death to February 5th.
confirmed, that the 5th Earl of Lovelace,Peter Axel William Locke King,
has died at 66 (he was born November 26th 1951).He left no heir to the
Earldom (created in 1838) or even to the barony of King of Ockham,
created for an ancestor on becoming Lord High Chancellor in 1725.
To recap, neither the present Lord Byron nor the post-1905 Earls of
Lovelace have been descended from the poet Lord Byron or his daughter
Ada Countess of Lovelace...both the Byron and Lovelace titles could
only pass to heirs male (males descended entirely through males from
the grantee upon whom the title was originally conferred).
The lineal heir of George and Ada is the Earl of Lytton, whose Barony
of Wentworth was once held by Ada's mother and can pass to and
through women...Ada's daughter left a daughter who married into
the Lytton family (heirs of Edward Bulwer-Lytton whose prose style
is exuberantly mocked by modern academics) and has descendants
to this day, while Ada's sons' line died out and the Lovelace
title passed to a son of her husband's second wife.
The late Lord Lovelace's parents married in June 1951,his mother
was the widow of a nephew of the husband of Karen "Isak Dinesen"
Blixen of "Out of Africa" fame.Lord Lovelace had succeeded to the
title in 1964.
