Food is OFFT-TOPIC at that group, and that is why I don't post there,
because fast-food is my main area of expertise. I only read there
occaisionally to get advice and to see what your up to over there, and

I think so, or it's a special dressing. It's delicious. I suppose I could
ask for no mayo for the other sandwiches, but why when I could have the #5
without it already. I only go there at the most once a week so I won't get

Yes, there's always beer on the menu, at least in Italy and Germany, and you
can even substitute it for the drink associated with your McMenu.
Don't know if one can substitute beer for the drink in a happy meal menu,
LOL.

The only kind of fast foods who usually don't sell beer or wine are the ones
owned by muslims, for obvious religious issues, and those where the
alcohol-selling license is too expensive or requires too much adjustments to
the shop. In Amsterdam, for example, almost all of the kebab shops and
oriental fast-eateries are alcohol-free because it's very expensive and,
morevoer, to obtain it one must have more structures than ones who doesn't.
I remember a turkish kebab-shop owner telling me he would need to pay much
more money to the Townhall and have two separated bathrooms, which he hadn't
room for. And you can not bring in beer from the nearby pubs: he would get a
fine and, if caugth a second time, he'd risk to lose his shop license for
increasingly long periods of time. It's not as in Australia where you read
B.Y.O. near wine and beer.

Jerry, have you ever had German Potato Salad? You must have had that at
some point in your life living in Wisconsin. I grew up on the stuff! It's
a bacon, sugar and vinegar based potato salad. To me, that goes excellently
with a burger or a steak. (Not that any fast food place serves it and if
they did they wouldn't get the recipe right.) It's my all-time favorite
kind of potato salad. I, like you, don't really care for mayo either.
Besides, when you get a mayo based potato salad, it's almost ALL mayo. Hey,
where's the darn potato? No thanks, I'll pass. I make a mean German Potato
salad based on my grandmother's recipe (her mother was from Germany). It's
a good comfort food for me. :~)

I especially enjoy Manhattans in the wintertime. There's something

You'll note that as well as fries go with
burgers, they're generally not served with burgers at backyard
BBQs; potato (or macaroni) salad is far more common in that context.

I have a deep fryer outside. It has a 30 quart pot for turkeys and I
have a smaller pan (looks like a big wok with a handle) for fish,
chicken, etc.

I don't eat on the highway, and I don't have a cell-phone. And whenver I
have something that requires a spoon or fork I eat it in the parking lot of
hte restaurant, except for Frosty's from Wendy's which fit in my cup

"magna e tromba", roman slang for "eat and f**k". There can happen very
folkloristic situations around those vans, I wouldn't recommend them to
anybody who's not drunk.

I was really surprised to find a Carl's Junior restaurant (sister restaurant
to Hardees) in Irvine, California that sold beer. Obviously you couldn't
get it through the drive-thru; it had to be consumed inside the restaurant,
but they sold (IIRC) Corona, Tecate, Heineken, Amstel Light, Miller Lite,
Budweiser and Coors Lite. I used to go there for lunch every day, order a
chicken club, no mayo, (and the sandwiches used to have sprouts on them - I
haven't seen sprouts on them in years, now). I'd sneak in a beer and head
back to the office. Ahhhhhh, the good old days! There was a Denny's in
Costa Mesa that used to have a full bar, too. That was a favorite place to
head off to after work for some nachos and beer.

have changed by now.

place so blatantly geared towards kids (i.e. those with "playgrounds" and
kiddie meals with toys included). I'm talking *better* burger joints.

Around here there's Huey's, well known for a fresh (not from frozen) burgers
and ice cold beer. There used to be a place called Longnecker's (for
obvious reasons - long-neck bottled beer on ice). It was patterned after
Fudrucker's but Longnecker's burned down and the owners didn't rebuild it.
There are other examples but it doesn't matter. Your opinion, Jerry, will
not be swayed.

I missed this post earlier -- I think Jerry's slipped a cog. I
have yet to go to a hot dog/burger cookout that didn't include

must have been drunk that night.

I miss Red Robin. They used to have a veggie platter about 20 years ago
that I'd order all the time. I've since looked up their menu online and
they no longer carry it. I guess not enough interest. It was good, though.
It had raw broccoli, peppers, carrots, tomatoes, cauliflower, I can't
remember what else, but it came with a good, Ranch dipping sauce. It may
have also come with a side of black beans. We don't have any Red Robins
around here, that I know of, so I can't comment on their burgers.

restaruants only carry specific items or beverages? It's
because they go WELL with the food.

Wrong on two counts, Jerry.

One, fast food restaurants generally offer a full line of soft
drinks from one of the major distributors (Coca-Cola or Pepsi).
And two, who better than the customer to decide what's "approp-
riate" to drink with the food he orders? You may think someone's
a Philistine for drinking, say, Mountain Dew with his Enchirito[*].
And you may even be right. But by offering the drink the person
wanted, the restaurant attracts and retains his business.

[*] Mind you, I'm not saying that you would. Or even
that Taco bell even offers Mountain Dew. It's just
an arbitrary example.

The point is that they offer the *full line* of soda from the
distributor -- not "only specific items or beverages" as you
state above. They don't omit any selections because they don't
"go well" with their food. They offer it all and let their
customers decide what they want.

pretty much the same; the only real variation is texture. And yet,

Dammit, Steve, if you had any type of brain at all you would know that Fast
Food is OFFT-TOPIC at that group, and that is why I don't post there,
because fast-food is my main area of expertise. I only read there
occaisionally to get advice and to see what your up to over there, and
sometimes compulsiveness is stronger then my common sense and I end up
replying to your non-sense there.
However I WILL take your advice and try the Arby's sandwich tomorow. Is
there a particular side item and soft drink you would recomend to go with
it?
