Well since I arrived at Hertz at Nice airport sans driving licence, I
don't need anyone to tell me I am an idiot :( Luckily waife had her
licence with her, so we eere able to rent a car, but at getting on for
€200 more than I paid with my Gold membership :(((
An expensive mistake - she didn't have to say anything !!!!

Ooo, embarrassing!
I was luckier (fortunately, since I was the only driver in our party) when
I did the same thing in Gozo. I'm not sure how but I managed to persuade
the hire people to let me take the vehicle anyway - maybe it was the
desperate looks on the faces of my two daughters, or perhaps I cried, I
don't remember now.

water bottle all day and can attend to the computer.

My mother, is asked "how are you" or similar by someone she knew well,
would sometimes answer "don't ask", with a certain accent - implying
that there was a long list (of ailments and other depressions) if the
matter was pursued (done with a grin). Her first husband was Yiddish
(name of Dessau), and she picked up a lot of that (IMO sehr gemutlich)
culture.

A close friend of mine, who was suffering from ill health, always answered,
"As well as can be expected."
In his last few years my father would say, "Still alive." and often upset
his grandchildren by responding to invitations to forthcoming events with
"I might be dead by then.".

Reminds me of the occasion, sometime in my 40s, when I arrived at
a family wedding. My grandmother, always a formidable woman, and
by then in her 90s, enquired, after the usual pleasantries, and
almost in the same breath "Have you been good?".

To which I could only respond "Well, if I hadn't, I'd hardly be
telling you!"

A Jewish joke I've always liked:
Old friends Abe and Moshe have been meeting at lunchtime for 35 years.
Each time, Moshe spends almost the whole time telling Abe about problems
with his marriage, his job, his kids, his health...until one day Abe
finally breaks in with,
"Moshe, we have been friends for over 30 years. In all that time I have
sat here and listened to your problems and not once, not *once*, have
you asked me how things are with me!"
Moshe is mortified. He apologises at length to his old friend and says,
"Let me try to make amends. Abe, how are things with you?"
Abe sighs and says, "Oy - don't ask."

kicking/punching [1] people. So I spent it catching up with Harry
Quebert, The Good Doctor and the Agents of SHIELD.

[1] Mondays is mostly punching these days, whilst Wednesdays and
Thursdays still involve a lot of kicking, for which my hips don't
thank me. I'm trying to phase out the kicking and focus on the
punching, which is what I'll be tested on next.

thank me. I'm trying to phase out the kicking and focus on the
punching, which is what I'll be tested on next.

I am enjoying The Good Doctor. I did like The Good Place for 2 series
but they jumped the shark now and I got bored. Mrs Maisel will be back
this week I think though, Hooray!

I am enjoying The Good Doctor.

I am not enjoying Dr. Who at all. I have no problem with the actors at
all or the female lead, but the stories are dire. I forgave them a bit
at the start as they had to set the scene, but it's just so achingly
right-on with all the different races, age groups and some disability.

And the alien this week was pitiful. Maybe nice for 8 year olds, but not
for me anymore...
