I don't think I described this correctly*

It's now opening on the second thread of a group. It also marks
the post as read.

Agreed. Doing that for me too.
Can I install the old version OVER the new one or do I have to
uninstall?

I am seeing this too. I might not have noticed it if you hadn't
mentioned it, as in many/most newsgroups I have a certain number of
older posts/threads marked as Protected. I also have those Protected
posts marked as Unread, but sure enough, the second-oldest post in every
group I've checked has been marked as Read when I open the group.

I have emailed the support at grc and got the response they
don't support Gravity and to look on the web. I will try again
but if anyone has any ideas let me know.

My tech support guy, Greg, was right that I'm not paying HIM to support Gravity. But I'm curious about what you guys are experiencing, since I'm not seeing any misbehavior.

But... perhaps one of the two new options I added is not working correctly, and I notice that I have it disabled.

Under the Global Options, select the "Display" tab. At the lower-left I ONLY have "Jump to First Unread Message" enabled. I do NOT have "Open First Unread Message" enabled.

If you guys turn off that second new option and select a new newsgroup... does it then work for you?? :)

I unclicked both the options you suggested and it appears to me
to be working properly in my limited testing. THANK YOU!

If I may impose upon you to update the email function so it
supports SSL, etc. I like to email important posts to myself so
I don't loose them, such as yours. I am using Comcast (no
comments) and it just blocks them. You can use my email addy as
a test bed if you wish - for any purpose - and I apologize for
bothering Greg but since my elevator doesn't go to the top I
couldn't a way to address the issue. Some posters have now
given me that info.

Once again I thank you for the the update and the response. I
have another reader that I paid for and use for archives that
tech support lacks or is condescending.

If I have any more issues I know where to go.

Thank you, Steve. Deselecting that option did indeed fix the issue.

And thank you for taking the time and effort to roll out a new version
of Gravity.

GRC has a news server (news.grc.com) and gravity discussion happens
there.

There are also web boards of some sort, but I have never been there.
